Well, assuming that you mean Jungle/Base Set 2 Scyther, it is a card that can fit into many decks. Its slash attack requires 3 energy of any type, so this card can fit into a lot of decks.

Especially in Unlimited, Scyther is a powerful Basic that can do 60 damage on turn 2. All you need is a Grass Energy, use Swords Dance, then attach a DCE and use Slash.

Another big thing about Scyther is that it combos well with another Big Basic Pokemon, Electabuzz. The base Electabuzz is a great card but its weakness to fighting was harsh. Scyther's got resistance to fighting, plus almost all of the pokemon that have resistance to electric are weak to grass.

Then add that it can evolve into one of the best steel pokemon around, scizor and scyther is top notch.

And let's not forget another great attribute of Jungle Scyther - Free Retreat!

For that matter, all Scythers (even Syther ex) have a Retreat Cost of no more than [C]

Oooohhhh...let me help you with this one...cause Scyther is my favourite Pokemon.

Let's start off with Scyther from Jungle.

Scyther
Grass
70 HP
Basic Pokémon

Weakness: Fire
Resistance: Fighting -30
Retreat cost:

{G} Swords Dance
During your next turn, Scyther’s Slash attack’s base damage is 60 instead of 30.

{C}{C}{C} Slash - 30

Has a Resistance to Fighting which is quite commonly used such as Hitmonchan(base set), Gligar(neo genesis) and Tyrogue(neo genesis). Free retreat, which makes it fast. 1st turn attach a Grass Energy and Swords Dance, 2nd turn Slash for 60. 70HP also makes it a good basic. Scyther kills a lot of baby Pokemon and with some Pluspowers, it could kill some good basics too.

Rating: 5/5

Next card is Rocket's Scyther from Gym Heroes.

Rocket’s Scyther
Grass
60 HP
Basic Pokémon

Weakness: Fire
Resistance: Fighting -30
Retreat cost: {C}

{G} Shadow Images
Whenever Rocket’s Scyther is attacked, your opponent flips a coin. If tails, that attack does no damage to Rocket’s Scyther. (Any other effects of the attack still happen.) This effect lasts until Rocket’s Scyther takes damage (or is benched or is evolved).

{G}{C}{C} Blinding Scythe - 40

Same as Scyther(jungle), it has a resistance to Fighting and weakness to fire. It has 10HP less and a retreat cost which makes it different from Scyther(jungle). But its attacks are great. Shadow Image helps Rocket's Scyther last for a few rounds(thats is if your opponent isn't a good flipper), and then Blinding Scythe does 40 damage(10 more damage than Jungle Scyther). It could be a good Basic Pokemon, but its low HP keeps it vulnarable to many Fire Pokemon.

Rating: 4/5

Neo Discovery Scyther

Scyther
Grass
60HP
Basic Pokemon

Weakness: Fire
Resistance: Fighting -30
Retreat Cost: (C)

(G)(G) Fury Cutter - 10+
Flip 4 coins. This attack does 10 damage plus 10 more damage if exactly 1 is heads, or 20 more damage if exactly 2 are heads, or 40 more damage if exactly 3 are heads, or 80 more damage if exactly all 4 are heads.

Same as all the Scythers, resistance to Fighting and weakness to Fire. Has a retreat cost of 1, not too bad. 60HP is quite low but its ok. For 2 Grass Energies, this guy could be a mean Pokemon.

- 0 heads = 10 damage
- 1 heads = 20 damage(this isn't so good)
- 2 heads = 30 damage(getting better)
- 3 heads = 50 damage(wow, thats a lot of damage)
- 4 heads = 90 damage(and only for 2 grass energies?!)

But the normal damage it should do are based from 20 - 50 damage. Not bad at all.

Rating: 4/5

Finally, its time for Promo Scyther.

Scyther
Grass
60HP
Basic Pokemon

Weakness: Fire
Resistance: Fighting -30
Retreat Cost: (C)

(G)(G) Slashing Strike - 40
Scyther can't use this attack during your next turn.(Benching or evolving Scyther ends this effect.)

Ok, start with the stats, 60HP ok, weakness resistance and retreat cost same as most Scythers. 2 Grass Energies for 40 damage, quite impressive(no flips required), can't attack during your next turn. BUT, with a Recycle Energy, it could retreat for free and deal another 40 damage. I see a lot of people using this card lately with Recyle Energy.

Rating: 4/5

Now its Scyther from Aquapolis(common)

Scyther
Grass
50HP
Basic Pokemon

Weakness: Lightning
Resistance: Fighting -30
Retreat Cost: (C)

(C) Slash - 10

(G)(C) Swift - 20
Normal Swift effect.

This guys just plain weird compared to other Scyther, first it only has 50HP. Second, a weakness to Lightning, I really don't get that part. Its attacks are very weak. I advise you not to put this guy in any of your decks.

Rating: 1.5/5

Aquapolis Scyther(uncommon)

Scyther
Grass
60HP
Basic Pokemon

Weakness: Fire
Resistance:
Retreat Cost: (C)

(G) Quick Turn - 10x
Flip 2 coins. This attack does 10 damage times the number of heads.

(C)(C)(C) Cross-Cut - 20+
If the defending Pokemon is an evolved Pokemon, this attack does 20 damage plus 20 more damage.

60HP, Weakness to fire, retreat cost of 1, wait a minute, no resistance? Anyway as for the attacks, Quick Turn is just your average first turn attack. Cross-Cut MIGHT be good for some Dark Pokemon because of their low HP.

Rating: 2.5/5

I'm not gonna rate EX Scyther, because I don't know how to rate an EX card.

--------------------
Scyther is fast, but not as fast as Scizor.

Scyther is strong, but not as strong as Scizor.

Scyther has a few attacks, but Scizor has more attacks.

Scyther is a Grass Pokemon, Scizor is not(HAHAHA!!!)

What better reason than that? Personally I like him because I like praying mantis and that is what he is. Aside from that the Jungle Scyther was arguably one of the best support Pokemon ever made having no retreat, resistance to fighting, and a colorless attack.
