Is a confused pokemon no longer confused next turn when it flips tails when trying to attack and hits itself?

Only if it knocks itself out. Then it's no longer confused. It's knocked out. Hee hee

Paralysis ends with the end of your turn, but all the other Special Conditions persist until replaced (in the case of Confusion/Sleep/Paralysis) or until you do something about them (i.e. retreat or Full Heal).

Plus remember that if a Pokemon is weak to it's own type (usually Psychic), you dbl damage too. Stayed confused until they are healed with a trainer/ power or benched.

Actually CmonIWannaPlay, Confusion requires you to put damage counters on the confused pokemon on an unsuccessful flip, so effects such as Weakness to self, Metal Energy, Defender, and stuff like that don't get applied.

Sigma: That change may be happening with Advance, but I don't think it's happened in the US yet. Anyone got the most recent rulebook to confirm?

From the skyridge rulebook:
quote: When you attack with a Confused Pokémon, you flip a coin. On heads, the attack works normally, but on tails your Pokémon attacks itself with an attack that does 20 damage. (If your Pokémon has Weakness or Resistance to its own type, or if there’s some other effect that would alter the attack, apply these things as usual.)

Confusing confusion ruling may be changing next month. For the better?..... Maybe. If we get the current Japenese ADV rules, we will get to retreat normally (pay retreat cost and retreat to bench NO FLIPS ) and if you attack with a confused Pokemon instead of doing 20 damage on tails, we will be placing 3 Damage counters. I kinda hope we get these new rules next month. It will mean new strategy and new defensive thinking.
But alas until then, Confusion is as stated above by Yoshi. Just wait and see, just wait and see...

3 damage counters, Spectreon? Ouch! If it is changed to damage counters (which I would not mind, personally), then I hope it's 2. As far as retreating without a flip, I hope that does not change -- it would severely weaken confusion.

Let's not forget about Pokemon like Genesis Gligar and Revalation Aerodactal. They are both resistant to their own type, so they do not take confusion damage!

Unfortunatly, and most likely once Nintendo is in charge, Weakness and Resistance, or any thing else like Metal (only if it is on a metal Pokemon!!!) Defender and the like will not prevent Damage from tails confusion flip. Damage counters cannot be reduced or multiplied!!!!

Bear in mind that even if WotC were keeping the license, I'm sure we would be switching to the ADV rules anyway. Just as we started counting Poison as something that shut of Pokemon Powers and PokePowers.

Hey, where can I find the ADV rules? And where can I find the most updated rules?
If a confused pokemon can retreat normally, it'll really weaken confusion. I think it's better for a confused pokemon to flip to retreat first then to discard energy if flip heads (no need to discard energy if flip tails). [ May 30, 2003, 06:00 PM: Message edited by: Taichi ]

Umm, as far as most up to date rules, there is compendium and Skyridge Starter decks. those would be most up to date. next month with release of ADV or RuSa EX we will see the new rules for ourselves.
Yes and no. Confusion doesnt get much help from retreat like normal. One of the biggest rule changes that will and has caused an UPROAR is the fact that you can only retreat once per turn. So you waste your 1 retreat to end confusion, but you cant retreat to bring it back up again that turn. 3 Damage counters is hefty. No reducing damage, and it actually does 10 more to most Pokemon. So it is almost as potent as ever.
