hey.. i'm a new member here... er..
juz wana ask.. if i use Ampharos (expedition's)lightning strike-- if i attach a rainbow energy. do i haf 2 discard it in order 2 do 80 damage?

YEP,
Rainbow is a SPECIAL energy card but when in PLAY (attached to a pokemon) it is ALL colors. It is a LIGHTNING energy card in this case.
So YES you must ALSO discard it in order to do 80 damage.

um, i dont think so, if you read the new ruling on that card, it says it never counts as a basic energy,

What new ruling? Rainbow Energy's text states that it "Doesn't count as a Basic energy card." Basic energy and Basic Energy Card are two different things. Anytime you have to (or want to) discard a specific type of Basic Energy, a Rainbow Energy card will suffice.
