Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

RANKINGS - 2007-08 Season

You guys might give it a day or two for final top 100 lists as some CC are still being uploaded!

Great numbers though... Texas is looking Good!

I did a quick count of North American Top 100 standings in Masters (that's my group, which is why I did it).

6 FL
6 TX
6 OH
6 WA
6 Mexico
5 Canada
5 CA
4 OR
4 MA
3 IL
3 CO
3 TN
3 NC
3 MO
2 MN
2 NJ
2 GA
2 LA
2 IN

There are more states that had two, and a bunch that had 1, but I did not include those because they didn't have anyone in the Top 50. The states which are tied for number are sorted by the rank of those in their state. For example Florida and Texas both had 6, but Florida had 3 in the Top 10 and TX only had 1. TX is ahead of OH because while they both had 1 in the T10 and 3 in the T25, TX had two more in the T50 while OH had none.

It seems large populous states with multiple borders have an advantage. This lets the good players stay away from eachother while not restricting the amount of tournaments they can go to. Bob in Miami can clean up while Joe up in Talahassee can attack Georgia.

Now, you still have to be good to go and win consistently, so I am not bashing players from those states.

But what I do want to say about this is that I feel that this means that in the bigger tournaments, like Regionals and Nationals, the players from these states might not make as good of a showing. A group of 4 really good players from MA for example, none of whom are in the top 25, but are in the 26-100 ranking, might be better than FL's top players, but because they compete with eachother they keep their ratings down.

Again I'm not bashing anyone I know Bobby is amazing, don't know the other guys but I'm sure they're good too. I just used FL as my example because its got the most.

So in summary, I don't think that these numbers will be an accurate prediction of the results of Nationals.

Let's see what happens.

THere should be 2 TX players in the Top 10...Adam and Me...

Oh, NVM its updated since 10am my time...I WAS 10th...And will be back to 5th-6th once my last CC gets updated. :thumb:

But I did go back and do a recount of what you posted since there have been some more updated, THere is now 7 TX players, while it looks like the others stayed the same ;).

There are only a handful of CC tournaments unreported, but it is easy enough to run the stats again when those get in.

15 Players in the 1800 Club.
Texas has the lead when it comes to the 1800 Club with three members. Adam G, David M. and Travis B.
Florida has two.
You do the math and that leaves ten states with one.

6 are Jr's ( Two from Texas)
4 are Sr's
5 are Ma's. ( Two from Florida)

Looks like TX and FL are really making an early showing in all age groups.

So I wonder...if I show up at TX States will I get to play a bunch of high rated people, or are they in diff corners of the State and end up playing in seperate States? Same ? for Florida.

A bunch of high rated people! Most of the higher ranking players will more than likely b at Texas States! Even some OK people will come down so there are those points as well!

Come on over Shaw... we will be waiting!! :thumb:

If Florida and Georgia are the same day, I would expect a few people to go north instead. The Carolinas are also within driving distance, but other than people like me who would go for social stuff, I don't think anyone would really drive that far.

Your rating will only get worse if you come to FL...

The quality of play is much better in FL. If your looking to have a better shot at points(not saying it will be easy in TX) go to TX

Do both? Florida is on the 1st of March. Texas and Georgia is on the 8th. Texas will have about 140 people combined with at least a top 8 cut. Not sure what Florida's numbers will look like. But they play Pokemon there like Tim Tebow plays QB. Your welcome here and if I'm not home I'll leave the key under the doormat. Just remember to feed the fish and no wild parties when you win. And don't go in the room in the Basement no matter what noise you here.

Your theories are flawed... The PTO that runs the CCs I go to, and the ones in Miami - Is the same person....

Squirtle, what he was saying was that for states that are close to other states that have events, one person from the state can do well at tournaments within the state and another can do well at tournaments within other states that border the state. This way, the two people never meet and thus never lower the score of the other. Expand this to states that have multiple bordering states with events and you could have many high ranked players that haven't played in the same event more than a few times.

Unless your PTO runs the CCs in Georgia, I think his point makes sense. Not all players live close enough to choose to play in a tournament in their state or in a tournament in a state close to them. So all the best players in their state have to butt heads, which leads to all the players losing points sooner or later.

On the other side of the issue, many players like the FL players travel good distances to play out of state. So it's not just them having the easy ride for other tournaments, they spend time and money to have that extra tournament to play in.

But is it when two top players like Stephen and Bobby go head to head that they do not gain or lose too many points to each other?

Yeah exactly. What i'm trying to say is that Bobby and I don't run from each other. WORST case scenario is we take 4-5 points from each other.
