Metagame Question

So with Cities coming to a close and States to look forward to with no big tournies in the middle does everyone think Garde/Lade, Magmortar and Blissey variants will be the big metagame at states or will new decks from GE emerge and be the abundant metagame? Discuss

Not sure about what is coming, but as a deck checker and judge, I sure hope we do have some new ideas coming.

It gets old seeing the same winning decks all the time.

PS: Missed you and Josh at Centennial. But, I think Anny was happy you 2 weren't there to steal her show.

Yeah i wanted to be there but being sick kept me outta action and Anny deserves her chance to shine good player

Well, since Gardy/Gallade and the new Magmortar were cards from SW, it wouldn't suprise me if cards from the new set are going to show up, since each new set seems to give better cards. Some of the Cities decks WILL show up, just because they were so often played, and players that don't play as much might just bring their cities deck.

Just based on the spoilers I don't see any major counters to G&G or Magmortar. Blissey already has a counter and it's still good and played quite a bit. With that said, the new card set will bring new deck ideas with it. Adding in not knowing your opponent's strategy or a typical deck list, the decks that are based on the newest set of cards could have an advantage. Much of the specualtion will revolve around exactly which Lvl X cards are in the set, because (aside from Blissey) the Lvl X cards are in most of the dominant decks.

More than likely, States will have many of the same decks you saw at Cities. Regionals could be an entirely different story, though.

You will see G&G, Magmortar, and Blissey in various forms and Absol will still be played because it's that good. If the Eeeveelutions and their Lvl X's come out in GE I'm sure someone will try and build something with those. Sceptile might make a showing, especially if Leafeon/Lvl X are around. Mewtwo looks like a powerhouse and might be fast enough to disrupt G&G and Lucario based decks. The Glaceon line can cause Magmortar some problems. Damage spread plus Omastar and TGW might be a decent rogue if someone can figure out a stable build. Garchomp Lvl X (again if it's in GE) will spawn an entirely new deck that will have an unknown effect on the metagame as it stands now.

Sadly i don't think to many of those rogues will be played with the rating system i think people will be to scared to try something new or rogue in a tourny like states unless they have nothing to lose rating wise already G/G, Blissey and Magmortar i think will still be 75-80% of the decks with 10-15 being these rogues and then getting rounded out with the basic casual decks that show up to have fun.

Smacktack15 says: Gardy/Gallade all of the way baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at Meta-Nite last year.. it continued to do well throughout the year. GE will bring devastating cards and combos but, the metagame won't change too much. I say whatever is really popular now will stay poplualr until a direct counter comes out (Gallade takes Blissey...what I mean by this is a Gallade has a definate advantage over Blissey). Nuff' said

Really? Hmmm....Interesting seeing as how I won several CC's Using Blissey variants when there has been a definite counter..

IE: Blissey/Empoleon: Counter Mario, Lucario Variants
Blissey/Magmortar: Counter GAG

Yet I still beat those decks...Go Figure...Im my experience, there is never a TRUE counter to anything.:biggrin:

or blissey and togekiss could be pretty darn good, if you can get it set up...
i mean im kinda tempted to play it.

Well, you are right (no definate counters) but, a solid G&G build can beat almost everything (it is 45-50 against T2B in my book).

Ways to take down the G/G is:

With DWD: Use 4-4 Honckrow and 4 Cess.

Blissey: Put in 2-2 or 3-3 Ninetails MT and 2-3 Lake Bounduary.

Banette variants: Ok they have 45-55 but GAG plays Absol that can OHKO Banette if banette have a LB in play.

Magmortar: Maybe Ninetail MTs again....

I think that i'll go to the Cities (they are in 2 weeks) Whit 4-4 Blissey and 3-3 Ninetails, if GE havent anything good i can go to the States whit same (if GAG is still the nro1.) Otherways i'll go GAG by itself but i think it's funnyer play something own because they are only Cities... DWD is also an option for both, in GE comes the draver whitch can draw 4 but it have to discard 2 then so hand will be full of important cards... and Absol will like it. Also Houndoom GE whit Blissey will be good loking because 70 T2 and 1 energy to the Dicard, that until T3-4 when it will get KO'd, then go whit blissey to take nergys from Discard pile and from hand. Also Clamperl-Huntail-Corebyss will be good whit Cess. and CB... That's what i have to say... XD
