Phione + Call Energy?

Does anyone else think that Phione plus Call Energy has huge potential? I'm just trying to find a good Pokemon lineup to put with it. Any thoughts?

I was thinking more along the lines off Pachirisu + Phione (since a pokemon is easier to get out than an energy).

But yes, in general that's a combo with huge potential if you draw the energy within the first 2 turns.

Yeah, I'm sure it's good with something. I don't think we're getting both cards in GE, though. Just more good cards we aren't getting =/

Well, you gotta play 4 copies of call energy and phione, and even that doesnt guarantee you'll get them in the first 2 turns. There's no way of searching for call energy too.

Obviously, we've had Dunsparce plus Jirachi in the past. My point was not to have to play two different Pokemon and involve two different energy drops. I wanted to get away from that because of how Absol's probably feasting on your hand. You would still play a couple Roseanne's Research to get the Basics too, so even without Call Energy you can go ahead and start evolving your Pokemon.

I was thinking about using it with something like Porygon-Z or maybe Togekiss. I dunno, I still have to think about it.

^agrees. I guess I should just stop testing decks and cards months before their release like I usually do, simply because cards are now getting cut. The decks that I've already added Call Energy and Phione in will probably have to be completely changed now. :frown:

4-2 Pachirisu-Phione sounds like the most sensible lineup. You'll most likely to start with Pachirisu, search for Phione and 2 anything, retreat, start evolving. With 1 it might get prized, which could slow down.

These sound like the most format-changing cards in DP4, hope we'll get them.

Dunsparce/Jirachi worked in an environment where most decks took time to setup. Pachirisu/Phione wouldn't work in today's environment, when a Blissey can T2 your Pachirisu before you can even start evolving your bench with Phione. Also Gallade would take easy prizes once you bench your Pachirisu/Phione and start attacking with something else.

I think the better idea is to focus on Phione more, and use trainers to make up for the lack of use of Pachirisu.

So Pachirisu takes the Boosted hit and you promote Phione, Celio for a stage 1 and Phione for the stage 2.

If Blissey now KOs the Phione right away you have a set up stage 2 and at least 2 KO's worth of Scramble Energy active. And that's one Boost Energy out of the way.

So how is this bad, exactly...?

Because you won't always have a celio on T2 and you won't always have a scramble on T3, and you won't always have the energy for a T1 and T2 drop. Your whole "strategy" would happen very rarely with all the other instances where you didn't end up with that perfect hand causing you to lose.

Sure, this kind of startegy would work better against setup decks, and most likely will be abused my setup decks, but the speed decks like Blissey will just cause problems early game for the decks that use those cards.

Another problem I see with running two starters is it takes up a bit of space. 4 Pach and 2 Phione is 6 cards. Many decks that run starters only run 4 of that card. So you have to find 2 cards to cut before you can even try the deck.

And they won't always have the Blissey and the Boost and the t1 and t2 energy drops... it works both ways.

Phione + Pachirisu will be a lot more consistent than phione + call energy though, that's for sure. Especially if that poor Phione gets T2'd after you attach the Call Energy... much worse situation than a Pachirisu getting KO'd.

edit: also keep in mind there is slightly less of a need for Roseanne's with Pachirisu in the deck, and you could run Bebe's or Elm's alongside Celio's for the faster setup.

other options to consider are the cards that search out your basics, RR has already been mentioned but mentor is still very good. the fact that call energy is colorless makes it less versatile. so probably going 4/2 on mentor/RR wouldn't be a bad idea. at least mentor/RR are searchable, then you could always just straight draw into your other basics.

Setup decks have little chance of getting started with Blissey, Magmortar and G&G running rampant...

lol, funny how two of the decks you named are actually setup decks. Yes they are faster, and don't need much of a set up, but they are setup decks.

Any way Phione gets rid of any problems set up decks are haveing right now.

I'm currently testing 3 Phione and 1 Pachirisu in my Hurricane and it seems to work fairly well.
