Just to confirm there will be a Great Encounters Pre-Release in Poole on 10 February.

The venue is
The Grasshopper, 141 Bournemouth Road, Parkstone, Poole

Cost £15 TBC
Start 10 am

We are also holding a City Championship (Cost £5) on the same day so this is sure to be a busy Pokemon day of fun. I intend to run Pre-Release early with City Championhips to start at around 1pm. I will also run a second Pre-Release after the City Championship for all thoe who haven't made the top cut!

Hope to see you all there!

Games' Shop Aldershop also claiming to have a pre-release on the 9th.

 http://www.google.com/calendar/even...mdxNmFpcnJvY2M0NTkyMTJlY0Bn&ctz=Europe/London

Ummmm no.

There are only 5 official (with promo support etc) in the UK.

They are:

GE_UK Pre Releases:

Fanboy 3
Phoneix Games
Clifton Road Games
Rainham
Bournemouth

There are reasons for this, which I am not going to go into here. However these are all, mostly, due to be held on the 9th February, with the release date of the product on the 14th (So would be tournament legal after this date). Future Pre Releases would be in line, in regards to size, as previously held events (Applications welcome from all TO's, etc), and would have to be held at roughly the same time as the US Pre Releases and before the US release date (which will match our own.). There will also be application forms to use to apply for these events, which would be sent roughly 1/2 months before the release.

Some stores "may" decided to run there own pre releases, however these would be more "Launch" Releases as the would be shipped for the release date and can not be sold before the 14th (outside a pre release event). However these events are a) Not premier and b) Have NO promo support.

I am aware that in the past Pre Releaes have been seen as a way of getting stock, etc, officially before it is grey imported into the UK. However, with the release date the same, and product avalible for shipping in time for the release date, this is no longer an issue, as the product will be officially availble from the distrubutors, grey imports will loose the advantage of "availibility" which has happened in the past.

Thanks

Chris

Chris (Venomex) the grey market exists because of cost. Simultaneous release especially at an advantageous cost to the players and promo support goes a long way to reducing the belief in the player community that importing is cost effective.

Fewer pre-releases and no promos means more grey importing. :(

Its a business 101 thing!

Grey Imports should not hit the UK untill well after the US/UK Release date (And we will be watching for before Embargo sales more closely then before...)

Bottom line is official release date the the 14th Feb.

US Stores will not sell these products before that date, or they would be dealt with by Pokemon US.
UK Stores/People should not sell these products before the release date, even on grey import.

Pre Release product is soley for Pre Release Tournaments, not for just getting the stock before everyone else.... - rules 101.

BEFORE the release date, you should be able to get the product from the official distributors.

AFTER the release date you can sell these items.

However, I would also like to add that two other Pre Releases have been added - Crawley and now Aldershot - however ALL pre releases will be very closely montiored.

Thanks

Chris

Basically, if I have this right then:

For future pre-releases, we go back to simultaneous release dates: Ours match the USA - Gotta be a GOOD THING

Pre-releases simulatneous with the USA - GOOD THING

Businesses grey importing to be monitored and dealt with as needed by local trademark and copyright holders - Business Thing to protect their markets

More pre-releases in future - GOOD THING  should encourage players to get their cards via pre-releases and not personal grey imports - Protects OP in home market - Another GOOD THING

Limited pre-releases this time round - NOT GOOD THING :nonono: - but better than ONE ONLY AFTER THE EVENT LAST TIME

Many more GOOD THINGS than Bad - HURRAY!

You can never stop grey importing for personal use but in the future with more pre-releases there will be less need for players to do this :thumb:

All in all sounds better than it was last time round and this next set looks good to me..

I received confirmation last night that additional product has arrived in the UK. So Crawley Great Encounters pre-release is a GO!.

Where: Fan Boy Three, 17 Newton Street, Manchester
When: noon, Saturday the 9th of February
How Much: £15

[DEL]I still haven't been able to establish how much the Crawley pre-release will cost. All I can say is that the maximum will be £18 and fingers crossed for £15. Only five days to go too.[/DEL]

Thanks to all who turned up.. especially those that travelled a long way.
