Ebay's New Policies - Your Thoughts?

I dont know how many people have bought/sold cards on ebay that belong to the Gym. However, I want some people's thoughts on the changes and will this prevent you from buying/selling on ebay or will it not matter.

Here are some of the bigger changes -

1st Change is Ebay agreed to lower it's listing fees but are raising there FVFs (Final Value Fees) enough that it is a lot more now if something sells then before when the fee's were what they are. For the cents they are taking off in the listing just doesnt justing the higher percentage they are raising the FVFs.

2nd Change is Sellers are no longer able to leave negative or neutral feedback for buyers. What is gonna happen is if you buy and item and dont pay or whatnot it hurts you and I guess shows in your feedback profile. (not entirely sure how this is gonna work.)

3rd Change is most likely the biggest to those of you who buy cards on ebay. If you love making your decks all RH this is gonna drive you nuts. Ebay has announced as of tomorrow, any Fixed Price, BIN (Buy It Now), and Store Inventory are gonna to have to be listing at 1.00 or higher. That means no longer can sellers list RHs or other cards for 10 cents since that is a reason price for most common RHs. It will end up having to be 1.00 . However it is not positive if sellers can accept best offers below 1.00 on these listings. It is also not clear if older listing in Store's will be grandfathered in or not.

Some other changes that are interesting is the Buyers can leaving multiple feedbacks for a seller and each will count towards there rating, not just 1. So, you sell to 1 person 5 different items and they leave more than 1 feedback I think they will all count. It may only have 2 that count, but it makes it easier to get better feedback. Another change is gallery is now free which affects Ebay Stores. Not much, since while on normal ebay it is .35 for gallery (I think), it is on .01 for ebay stores. I am not sure how helpful saving .01 is. I guess it adds up over time though.

This all takes place starting tomorrow Feb. 20th.

Here is a link to all the changes going into effect tomorrow (There are a few links on the page that explain everything but that is the "main page" for all the changes via links - Ebay Changes

I just wanted to know what everyone thinks about this and will the increased pricing and fees affect your buying on ebay in anyway?

Personally, while I am okay with a few the no listing for Fixed, BIN, Store Inventory under 1.00 and the raising of FVF is what I dont like, but that is just me.

Eh, I never sold on ebay before, so it doesn't affect me.

2nd Change is Sellers are no longer able to leave negative or neutral feedback for buyers.

I could see this being pretty bad. It used to be that the buyers always worried about running into a bad seller. I feel this could lead to the opposite happening. Do the sellers get insurance or anything if the buyer doesn't pay for it?

Eh, this probably won't affect me too much, but I will say that it will make getting some common trainers/energies a !@#$% if you know what I mean. $1 min. each for basic energy? It might force sellers to sell common items in bulk.

Some other changes that are interesting is the Buyers can leaving multiple feedbacks for a seller and each will count towards there rating, not just 1.

I thought this was how it was anyways? I've bought multiple items from sellers and when I go to leave feedback, there have been multiple places to leave feedback. Are you saying that before, all these feedbacks have only counted as one? I guess that's fair. I could see some artificial rating griding though where someone buys 1,000 legos for $1 each and then gets 1,000 A++ feedbacks from the same person.

I feel eBay is starting to wind down a bit. There aren't many other auction sites on the web, especially since Yahoo Auctions closed in the USA, but eBay just doesn't seem to be growing that much, and it seems that eBay wants to make more money to make up for the lack of growth.

I am a buyer and the 1.00 doesn't bother me, but couldn't the seller adjust the shipping cost by 90 cents.

I like that, my rating would be 129 instead of 51!!!

! will still buy!

i can def see the no bad feedback thing being really bad and i can also see a person sell like 1 item to their friend, and have their friend leave like 1,000 amazing feedback

No, if you left more than 1 feedback for a seller/buyer it only counted as 1 no matter how many left. Now it is more.

I am a buyer and the 1.00 doesn't bother me, but couldn't the seller adjust the shipping cost by 90 cents.

Well, yes and no. I could sell for a 1.00 and lower my shipping fee by .90 cents but lets see how that affects sellers.

.10 + 2.50 = 2.60
Fees - .06 for listing (I am obv. gonna be listing more 1 of the item so it makes sense) then .01 for FVF = .07 plus PP fee which will be the same either way.

1.00 + 1.60 = 2.60
Fees - .03 for listing, however with the FVF of 12% it is now .12 instead of .01 and that brings the total to .15 plus PP fee which will be the same either way.

Now, because of the raised price it is gonna affect people who buy them. So logically it actually cost the sellers more now to sell the items.

JMO on that,

Wow..that is so horrible. I do however like the Powerseller perks - with final value fees being reduced for good feedback standing and lower insertion fees will be helpful. But the store items $1.00 or more is very lame - especially for cards. I think they're doing it so people don't try to avoid fees by doing a low BIN and higher shipping charge. I guess I'll be busy listing things tonight before this effect goes into play.

1st Change: I normally don't sell on eBay.

2nd Change: I already don't like it. Both parties in the transaction should be able to give feedback. If the customer buys and does not pay, I invoke the right of relisting the item. :)

3rd Change: I really don't understand their decision on this. The seller knows the value of the product they're selling (sometimes), and the price they are willing to sell it for.

Being able to leave multiple feedbacks can increase your ratings OR decrease them easier. I don't really mind, unless someone is being a complete jerk and just not understanding.

Just my four cents. :)

yes this sucks HOWEVER. if you are a powerseller with a DSR in all categories at 4.8, you receive a 15% refund in FVFs, which makes up for the increase.

2nd Change is Sellers are no longer able to leave negative or neutral feedback for buyers. What is gonna happen is if you buy and item and dont pay or whatnot it hurts you and I guess shows in your feedback profile. (not entirely sure how this is gonna work.)

this is the most horrible change. buyers will feel better about leaving negative feedbacks to ruin sellers' ratings. i suppose if i was a seller screwed by a buyer, i'd leave them a positive feedback, but with a nasty comment inside.

the most interesting change. no more of those retarded 1 cent auctions with $4 shipping. youre probably going to see a lot of $1.00 store listings with sellers competing for the lowest shipping charge, now that buyers can sort listings by lowest price + lowest shipping.

Some other changes that are interesting is the Buyers can leaving multiple feedbacks for a seller and each will count towards there rating, not just 1. So, you sell to 1 person 5 different items and they leave more than 1 feedback I think they will all count.

it only counts up to 1 feedback a week from the same buyer.

a poor decision on ebays part. now all listings might as well have pictures, which means all listings will look the same and they wont stand out from each other.

*Feedback more than 12-months old won't count towards your Feedback percentage.*
this is another great change, as if you had some rotten luck years ago it wont contaminate your rating.

Good point. Sometimes I notice auctions only because they have no picture/uses the camera icon when you are going down the listings.

If it's gonna be all pictures, I'd rather have the listing layout exactly like Yahoo! Japan Auctions' layout style, ah haha.

mna, my rating would be over 1400...

Is the rating rule going to be retro-active?

I would expect so, while my positive # will drop, it might be helpful. I will have a 100% for positive again, but I am not sure how much I like it.

rhodesia123 - I think it is an average of 4.8 with no catergories lower than 4.7 if I read correctly.

I think the problem I have is that I think while I have a 5.0 and 4.8 (or 4.9) in 2 of the 4 categories 2 of mine are 4.6/4.7 range which is not exactly the greatest, however the good part is that it only counts the previous month. So in Feb I have a 4.8 avg the savings are in March from my understanding.

just a thought but what other auction sites are there?

Um yeh, that is the problem, I dont think there are any that you can take seriously. I know that one of the only countries that ebay doesnt have a site is Japan because Yahoo got their first. But as far as any other site where you will get a decent price, there isnt.

The new feedback thing is stupid. For those of us who have worked so hard to keep our feedback ratings at 100%.....all of a sudden, people are gonna jump back to 100%? That makes no sense to me at all.

I'm a big fan of the feedback thing. There are a couple looser sellers that I want to do lay the smackdown on, just because they're so horrible (one accused me of not paying after a long PayPal dispute that decided in my favor, luckily, eBay removed the unpaid item strike within three minutes! the other guy has not sent me the card, and I even emailed him and he responded, but no card!) As a seller, the feedback change doesn't do anything to me since I always leave feedback first as long as they pay.

I'll still buy and sell, no doubt. However, eBay is chaging too much fees IMO. There is the PayPal, the listing, and the FVF. :nonono:

I hve a feeling that they will change the policy about the feedback...Peple are going to be totally upset.

Speaking of which I saw this on the news a few days ago, and thusly that will cause more of an uproar...

The new Ebay policies are hurting the seller more than helping especially the casual seller. The FVF just cost the seller, a cost that really can't be passed along to the buyer. Ebay already takes a nice chunk out of a sale from the listing fee, FVF, and Paypal fee. I wish there were another alternative but no such luck.

The new feedback policy is a nightmare for the seller as well. A buyer can make demands from a seller or face a negative feedback. This puts sellers at the mercy of a buyer. Feedback should be two ways.

I will try to use Ebay to sell less often now because of the changes. As a buyer, the new policies are great. It totally benefits the buyer.

Also, Zapditto, its too late to list your items today to avoid the FVF increase because your auctions will close after the new policies take effect and your auctions will be subject to the new FVF policy.

Good luck to all who continue to sell on Ebay. You will notice that your profit margins are shrinking fast. Thank goodness all of us have real jobs and college and don't depend on Ebay for our livelihood. Go to college and stay in school and study hard!!!!!

All of this is going to get the government involved, I can guarantee you that. Between them and Paypal they going to get a bunch of lawsuits and ebay which I hope it does, will fall from the monopoly circle.

I am on the verge of suing paypal right now for $370 transaction in which I shipped the item to Mexico, guy got the item most likely, then he turns around and has paypal open up a complaint just a day or so after the auction and wants a refund, meaning if paypal takes his side, its down right fraud.........but wait it gets better....... while this complain is open, I cant do anything on ebay either, yeah its stupid, and then if it was...............oh my!!! I cant leave him a negative.

I will personally sue ebay alongside paypal if I have to.
