Yes! I'm first!

200 hp on a non ex stage one is ridiculous! very difficult to take down, but what damage can he do if he's asleep the whole time? Bat weakness and horrible retreat cost make him even worse. Personally, i don't like it at all.

I'll give him 6/10, but only because of his high hp

It's a tank.
Weakness ain't dat important.
Bad attack, decent body, bad retreat, amazing HP.
Overall decent.
Combine it w/ Xatu or something creative.
7/10

Jolteon can be teached to beat this whale
Latilock stop this
Pachi eats this if Leftover attached
Gardelade can Sonicblade to aim a Bring Down if timing right
Etc etc. So beatable.

I love the artwork. The water effect was especially very well done.

Wailord, I'm afraid, may be condemned to the realm of 'fun only'. The massive 200 HP is what makes this guy awesome, but the lackluster attack that costs FOUR Energy just doesn't cut it. I think that a deck with Wailord could be a great League deck, but it would be very tough to succeed competitively.

Modified: 5/10

I really like Wailord. I don't think it will be beating G&G any time soon alone, but an Energy Accelerator will help. Swampert is a good choice. The ex gets Energy onto Wailord, while the normal moves Energy around. 200 HP is just to hard to pass up...

8/10

Oh, and the art is one of the best in GE.

Overhyped. Bad attack, bad weakness, bad pre-evo, bad retreat cost. I'm not just assuming this is bad, I've tested it and I know it's bad. 200 HP doesn't make it playable.

Modified 2/10
Unlimited 1/10
Limited 9/10

Anyone else find it odd that Wailord always has the most HP, even though Blissey has much higher HP in the games?

Anyways, I think Wailord could be a useful card. 200 HP is immense; very few Electric Pokemon can even hope to come close to an OHKO, so Wailord is a 2HKO at best 99% of the time. 2X Weakness to Electric isn't that bad considering Electric Pokemon aren't that popular, and almost none will OHKO. No Resistance, and an extremely expensive 4 Retreat Cost, making you want to play Warp Point and Switch. Its Poke-Body, Sleeping Pulse, is a nifty little recover trick; combined with Leftovers, Wailord can heal a total of 30 HP before it even comes back to your turn, making him a good candidate for stalling as well. Sink Deep, though way overpriced at 3 Water and 1 Colorless Energy for 60 damage, makes Wailord fall asleep, letting you trigger Sleeping Pulse. And since Sleep only has about a 25% chance of lasting, you should be able to wake it up before your next turn.

Modified - 7/10 (I think the potential is out there, it just needs some time)
Limited - 7/10 (You can stall for about ever with him out while powering your bench, or you have an expensive attacker who won't die for several turns)
Unlimited - 1/10 (No use, please no use)

Electivire! And don't worry, Electivire will again have his day...

Ok guys enough come on. You're missing the big picture. Wailord is not meant to attack....EVER!!! It is simply the best wall I've seen around. It simply meant to stall your opponent while you set up for the big onslaught. Especially if you've got nothing. Forget holon circle considering the fact that most people don't wait for you anyway.

Man wailord just isn't getting any love here. I personally think its a solid card with strength charms and plus poers he 2HKO's just about everything played, while everything at best 2HKO's him but more than likely 3HKO's him. You just have be creative about your combos with him

8/10 Modified
2/10 Unlimited
8/10 Limited, onces hes out and powered you've practically won.

+energy root = 220HP :$

in fact, i dont like it at all, but thinking in 220HP + Briney's Compassion + Super Scoop Up...

and some healing pokemon, it may be a good combo...

just an idea =)

I orrigianlly wrote this for secretdeck.com, so please don't think I'm crazy for writing something so long.

The first thing that really stands out on Wailord is its impressive HP, at an incredible 200. This gives our not-so-litte fellow here quite a lot of longevity, right? Well, this is not the case when Gallade comes in to the picture. Gallade’s first attack, Sonic Blade, deals 150 damage in one devastating blow, which sets up an easy KO from either Gardevoir or Gallade when Wailord sees the active position later in the game. Now, I know what you’re thinking: isn’t there anyway to stop Sonic Blade? Well, yes, there is!

In fact, there are two easy options, one of those being Unown G. Unown G is usually the fastest since it can be searched out from the deck using popular cards such as Roseanne’s Research, Holon Mentor, Pachirisu, etc.

Once in play, it can be attached as a tool to a Pokemon, and it stops all effects done to that Pokemon, excluding damage. This is perfect to stop Sonic Blade, since it places damage counters instead of doing actual damage. But while using Unown G, a Tool card, other Tool cards can’t be attached to Wailord. So, what if I you’re looking to play things like Amulet Coin or Leftovers? Holon Energy WP is your solution!

Holon Energy WP works nicely with Wailord, since its attack allows for one Colorless Energy, which Holon Energy WP provides. Holon Energy WP provides the much needed protection from Gallade, so these are a must in Waliord decks at this time. But don’t get all excited yet! Holon Energy WP has no practical way to searched for from out of the deck; thus, you would be reliant on top decking it.

Now, what combos with this big guy?

Xatu SW

I have seen a few people thinking that Xatu is a good combo for Wailord, since it can remove the Special Condition sleep away from Wailord, and transfer it to the opponent’s Pokemon, but this plan is not perfect. The odds using this Xatu’s Poke-Power to put the Defending Pokemon to sleep for just one turn is an ugly 12.5%. Another problem with Xatu is that it requires Psychic Energy, and Wailord is really hungry for Water Energy. So somehow they would need to share unrelated Energy types, and things would get messy. Double Rainbow Energy is an option, but it only makes Xatu weaker and the same for Wailord. Xatu would only be useful as a 1-1 tech to keep Wailord awake for that 25% of the time he would still be asleep after attacking. It really doesn’t fit in as an attacker. What Wailord really needs a partner that can do a lot of damage and accelerate Energy attachments.

Blastoise SW

Blastoise comes to mind since it helps feed Energy to Wailord with its Poke-Power, Waterlog. Unfortunately, this brings your turn to an end. But think about all of the turns where you wouldn’t have been attacking because you have no energy attached, anyway, and it looks a bit better. Plus, Blastoise can deal some solid damage at a ridiculous cost of five Energy… which isn’t so good. Scramble Energy can help here, since the attack doesn’t require separate Energy Cards to do the extra damage.

To sum all of this up, Wailord is a lot like Torterra (a really bad card for those of you that don’t know): A lot of HP and a bad attack. But at least Torterra gets two attacks. That is definitely Wailord’s downfall, having one costly and weak attack. There really aren’t any truly solid combos for Wailord right now, and it definitely would not be able to function on its own. It is not effective against the metgame since it can’t even OHKO Magmortar or Typhlosion, or even even two-hit-KO Gallade. This ultimately slams the door on this card, and you can rest assured he’ll just be sitting in my binder for a long time.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Using it as a wall gives Magmortar time for snipefest. W00T! And that is not good for the Wailord Player. Also, Gallade rips it apart if it is unprotected.

i haven't played it yet but even a bad list i might come across at states will rob give me a hard time, 200 hp t2 is just so annoying even if it can't knock me out i'll prob just quit cause i hate the card so much LOL

Use this as Staller, while you set-up ya Bench something good attacker... When it get KO'd, bring that full loaded Poké to Active, and start sweeping... LOt's of Scrambles!

Exactly. Plus remember I can 1ko a magmortar and the way my deck set out I'll have backup if something goes wrong. I don't care what happens to it. Also the people I play aren't smart enough to take any kind of advantage against wailord.

Wailord works well with gardy lv x bring it down, because its a stage 1 pkmn with 200 hp (put in play a stage 1 is very easy in this format).

The attack is very bad, 60 for 4 energy is too much energy at all. With xatu and levotress, wailord works well but the deck is too slow and a gallade, ampharos, or other pkmn with good attacks beat him before he is ready for attack.

The retreat cost is excessive (but don't forget, wailord is a whale and the most big pkmn in the world).

I give a 8/10 with gardy (wailord in the bench the entire game obviously).
5/10 with other combination (bad attack)

It looks to me like a punching bag. Sure it can stall, but in a good doeck you shouldn't have to stall, should you? Sure, 200 HP is great, but the great HP should be complimented with great attack and all that right? Its energy cost is to high. If that was only like maybe 2, then this could be a considerable card. 6.5/10
