Need a new surname

Dom

New Member
So ya I'm getting rid of my surname for various reasons so I need a new one, and I thought you guys might be able to help give me some inspiration. I'm looking for just general cool sounding, deep and meaningful words that might help me come up with something. Perhaps not the actual name I will use but something to work with. I already have many ideas but I want to get as much input as possible. I want to use something that isn't currently a regular surname so its special and unique and will make my descendants stand out and hopefully dominate.

I'm also changing my first name but I've already got that figured out.

Anyone got any ideas?

interesting idea, changing your name. . .

When I was in high school I knew a boy with the last name America. I thought that was really neat, very patriotic. He was in foster care so I didn't know where his family came from. I always wondered if that was a made-up name. I didn't have the courage to ask.

As a genealogist, I'd look at your family history, your family tree and perhaps your family background for inspiration. You may find a name there you like. If that's what you're moving away from, perhaps a name that suits your interests or hobbies. I don't think I'd pick a name that's difficult to spell or you'll spend half your life telling people how to spell your name. I'm not sure I'd pick something very common like Smith or Jones as you may get lost in the crowd, unless that's your objective.

Since your screen name is DOM, perhaps that can be your initials? I knew a boy in high school who's name was Jim. The class got a good chuckle at commencement time when we realized not only was his name Jim, but those were his initials as well.

Best wishes,

Nanette (a first name no one can spell, who married a man with a name all can spell) Armstrong

I myself am changing my name, in the near future. I have a different reason though. I want to keep 1100 years worth of Family History going, becuase right now, only my brother has the chance to keep it going.

So, I will be joining him soon. (And yes, my brother and I have different names currently )

I will be called: Jonathon Washington Clay (In honor of my great grandfather George Washington Clay).

If you're planning to become an MC: Change your last name to Hammer.
Otherwise: Change it to T. Just T. And make sure everyone addresses you as Mr.

First name I'm changing from Dominic to just Dom because everyone calls me Dom anyway. Current middle name I'm dropping (not gonna mention since I just don't like it and don't use it), current surname Jordan which I don't want as a surname as I don't want to associate with its origins. Although its a nice sounding name I may actually make THAT my middle name instead and create a new surname. I like the idea of something personal but I don't want it to sound cheesy, that's the problem really, finding the middle ground.

Currently I'm leaning towards Excelsior.

How about McCloud? I have some neighbors, and a classmate with that last name. I've always loved it because clouds are awesome. They can be light and fluffy, dark and eerie, or low and over a glistening lake at night. So whatever mood you're in your last name will suit you. My best friend's last name starts with MC, and McDonald's starts with MC. It's also Fox's last name.

Dom Jordan McCloud, I like the sound of that...

Dang. I was thinking MacLeod (pronounced McCloud), but then I remembered the guy's name is Duncan, not Dom...
