IN Regionals

I've been to a few tournaments- but am a little nervous about regionals.
Any tips on what to expect/ anything different from tournaments?
I've read everything on the tcg website about rules and everything...
Thanks!

I am going to resist the temptation to merge this into the other thread as I think there are a lot of players in your situation.

1. Don't be nervous. Pokemon is a fun event, and if you have prepared, just try and stay focused and do the best you can do.

2. Have a good time. Regionals are usually more than just a Pokemon tourney. Try to meet new people and hang out with them before and during the event.

3. Have a plan. Are you travelling with friends? With parents? Make sure to know where you are meeting your "group" so that you have a home base. Make sure you all have lunch taken care of, and bring along snacks.

4. Get some rest. A regional is like a big test at school. If you get a good night sleep the night or 2 before the event, you are going to be rested and confident. Lack of sleep makes people JITTERY.

5. Be prepared. Bring your decklist, damage counters, status markers (burn/poison) and the like.

6. Be consolidated. Don't take your whole collection into the event to make trades. Try to limit yourself to what you can toss in a backpack and keep with you, and KEEP IT WITH YOU.

7. Be a good sport. Win or lose, there is always next round.

8. Have fun.

Thanks for the reply, my husband and some friends are traveling- and we are really excited!
I've just been surprised by the disparity between the tournaments in the way they are run, and I don't want to be completely blindsided by the structure i.e. rules.
Again thanks for the advice, we can't wait:)

The IN Regionals will be the first for my family too (mom, dad, 2 junior boys). We are excited! I think Vince summed it up terrifically. I have found that in juggling the kids and the decks and all that jazz that we do best when we show up with our decklists already completed and minimal 'stuff.' I usually have the big bag which hold some snacks and anything that the boys don't need during a round like their DS. Hopefully, we will get to meet!

get a good night sleep the night or 2 before the event,

Vince

haha i cut things out  but do not try to play until 1 in the morning playtesting *im a hippocryte(or how ever u spell it)*makes u tired for top cut which suks pretty bad but yes get a good night rest always clears you mind

Its gonna be quite an amusing trip for us, as well. This is my first regionals (my first states just went by, going 7-5 in two is not bad, I think..) Myself and my girlfriend will be making the drive tomorrow with a Caravan of people. We're leading with two other families following us.

Honestly, I'm not really expecting to win, but hey, if I get far, I can say I did well.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there!

We are heading out after lunch today! We gave the boys the option of leaving after school or ruining Andrew's perfect attendance by pulling him out before 2pm and, of course, he chose POKEMON! So we hope to be in Shipshewana for dinner and then playing and pool tonight. I wonder if we can get the hotel to play a Pokemon dvd. I'll bring one along just in case.

The biggest difference between the smaller tournaments you've been to and one like this is just the sheer size. With 100+ players, everything just takes longer, so be patient.

Also, don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't know what's going on, either during the games or just about the event in general. As a member of the judging staff, I can assure you that we would much rather that you ask us something than be unhappy later!

Thanks everyone- The last post about asking questions is the best advice I've gotten!
Looking forward to seeing some of you there tomorrow- best of luck to everyone!!
