I'm gonna start this out by saying that losing on time is probably the worst way to lose a match. -_-. So anyway my family and I drive up to Rockville for regionals. We get their like 20 minutes before the store opens and have to stand in a LONG line of people waiting to get in. After I get a tauros from Jordan Hill, I was ready to register. I'm not really going to go into much detail on the swiss rounds since I don't remember much of it. I was playing Magmortar/Blaziken.
I win my first 2 rounds then we have a lunch break.
Round 3 vs. Jordan Hill (mag/blaze)
This was my worst start of the day. I had one magmar and a hand full of energies, he had a mew *. He went first did 40 and I topdecked a celio's and played it for a pachirisu. After that I didn't get another supporter for turns and couldn't really get set up. He wins.
2-1
Round 4
I don't remember anything from this round. I did win it though.
3-1
Round ? vs. Dan Conn. (Nidoqueen/Nidoking)
Dan is a notoriously slow player. I had a slow start. He played slow. Eventually I got it down so we were tied on prizes. Time ran out. I played a steven's advice for 6. If I had drawn a rare candy I would've won. Of course sticking with the theme of the day I didn't draw it. -_- After Dan I was 3-2. I do not really remember the order of the next two people.
3-2
Round ? . vs. Danny M. (empoleon with cessation)
Normally Empoleon with cessation isn't a real problem because I can use smash-short for 70. Of course with the luck I was having all day I got a tauros start. He does t2-3 cessation and I have to waste a celio's to take a pachirisu. I end up having tauros and pachy in play for the whole battle so I was somewhat handicapped by that. I manage to get some good draws and overwhelm with the scrambles.
??
Round 6 vs. someone with a garchomp deck
I had a bad start but after she takes a few prizes I just use scramble to overwhelm her.
Round 7 vs. Luke Reed (using an SD. Same one Pramawat was using)
This was a must win for me if I wanted to make top cut. Obviously this SD is meant to beat my deck (and of course gardy). I got what I though was a bad start and told him. Then for the whole battle he was going on about how I said I had such a bad start. It did turn out to be a very good start. I got an early blaziken and managed to snipe a key part of his deck. The other one was in prizes and he was never able to get set up. I get 7 energies on a magmortar and KO an ex and take 2 prizes. After that he concedes.
So I made the top 16 with a 5-2 record. My losses were against Jordan Hill (6-1) and Dan Conn (6-1) so both legit losses.
Top 16
I am playing against a magmortar/typhlosion, so it's essentially a mirror so if neither player misplays it pretty much comes down to who draws better.
In the first match we both get decent set-ups. His is slightly better though. This was a very close match. We both had 2 prizes left and he was set up to KO my active then flame bluster a benched. Their was nothing I could do to stop it.
0-1
I get a great start in this one and run over him. He ends up conceding to save some time.
1-1
We only have 15 minutes for this round so it will come down to who gets a faster start. He chooses to go first. On his second turn he has 2 magmortar, 1 typhlosion and a claydol. I was not happy. . I had a decent but slower set-up. We both have 4 prizes when time is called and it was his turn. He had an active magmortar lv. x with 4 energies on it. Flame Bluster FTW. If I had more time I probably would have been able to win this one, but unfortunately we only get 1 hour for top cut.
So that was my regionals experience. -_-. I probably lost in the worst way possible. For me time is the absolute worst way to lose. And BTW Dave Schwimmer > Mike Leisik.
Props
Leisik (sp?) not ruling out T64 at Nats..
Spencer winning with my cards.
Pulling a Cresselia Lv. X from my 9 prize packs
Guille
Slops
Mike Leisik not buying everyone pizza like Dave Schwimmer did last year.
Losing twice on time
A LOT of time in between rounds
