Why Garchomp wont survive.

I REVISED THIS ARTICLE.

I believe that Garchomp lv. x is bad. Just bad.
Most people building the deck are talking about loads of bad things. The fact is, in order to let this deck run, the way i see fit is to just throw in some random good pokemon to revive. The problem is, that really veers from the gameplay. I don't understand how you could run his deck when you have to go away from alot of starters and things that let you get the card out, and fill that with random cards you will draw and not get when you need them.

I think that people don't even realize how hard the card is to get out. At all. When you have a random Blastoise d just waiting to get discarded and revived, and you draw it when having difficulties, that isn't really the best at all. A stage 2 level x is already hard enough to get out and mighty slow, so how do you expect to get it out?

Personally, I think there are/will be (next year) a lot of far better decks in the format. Garchomp isn't worth playing in my opinion.

And as soon as crystal shard gets rotated....then what? Crystal shard isn't going to be around much longer. And garchomp being weak to itself. Garchomp will be a force to be reckoned with in the new format.

hah, id dusknoir it! no chomp deck will EVER be able to run with 3 or less slots, ever.

still, im talking this season. maybe next, but look at speed empoleon: DOMINATED the very end of last season, im talking VERY end, and got phased out at the very beginning of this one because of 2 new sets. next season two sets wil probably come out to phase out garchomp for something better. plus there is the fact that chomp will probably be put out as a promo edition too (japan got it as a tin in addition to the set one), and become overly available.

There are lots of techs against Garchomp and Crystal Shard is one of the worst ever seen.

At a State Championship, I played Garchomp against a player who teched three Crystal Shards into his Magmortar deck, he used all of them during the match and I still won. In addition, Crystal Shard is a dead card against almost any other deck.

Of course, you can say, the Lv.X Garchomp has x2 weakness and not only +30. But not every Garchomp in play is Lv.X, and at the point Lv.X is active, it usually does a rebirth for Flygon ex / Kabutops / other stuff.

In my opinion, Garchomp was better at the first states than it will be with MD. Short time after the release of GE, Garchomp was totally owning, I got 1st and 2nd at two different states and other Garchomp deck also had great success in Europe. After the first state weekends, people started to play Battle Frontier, Holon Energy FF (Magmortar) and Dusknoir (Plox) in their decks so Garchomp became less effective but is still a very strong deck.

Garchomp will get a really great addition in MD, but the Lv.X doesn't combo that well with most successful Garchomp play right now (Togekiss + Claydol). You have to play stuff to discard your energy and tech stage 2 Pokémon, they need additional bench space which can cause problems if the opponent is playing Dusknoir. There will be some guys who use Crystal Shard to counter Garchomp because other techs can't work in their deck or because they never played with or against a Garchomp deck and think it's the best tech. LatiLock will be played more often because of the fossils and eeveelutions. And last thing, meta weakness is spread more. We have Glaceon for metal weakness, Leafeon for fire weakness and Kabutops for Grass weakness. Those types were not very important before MD and Garchomp could concentrate on playing more psychic and water energy.

That's why I think Garchomp isn't that great during Nationals and US Battle Roads. Don't get me wrong, it's still a really good deck, but Empoleon and Infernape have better improvements and less drawbacks coming along with MD.

But early next season Garchomp should be one of the best decks in format. It doesn't lose anything but a few techs with the rotation, it doesn't need DRE, Scramble or anything like that. On the other side, allmost all tech cards that can help against Garchomp (Battle Frontier, Cessation Crystal, Holon Energy FF, LatiLock, Blastoise d etc.) are no longer available.

yep, when they have three pokemon already, well see how garchomp fares...

giant stump would super kill it... sigh.

also, FOR garchomp here: why has no one thought of using Alakazam* with it? they are a perfect match!

So it's easy to tech against it. It's easy to tech against almost every archetype. Garchomp has a very good possiblitity of becoming one of hte best decks. Weakness doesn't mean everything too.

My Garchomp deck, though the Trainer line needs work, beat both Magmortar and GG with Dusknoir techs this past weekend. Garchomp doesn't need a big bench at all. Most of the time all I was working with were 2 Benched and the Active - bring on Crawdaunt EX!

This is a waste of space....
Chomp Lv X out with a Chomp and another Chomp/Claydol on the bench revive Stoise δ.
And for all your infinite ways to combat it, you seem to have only listed one. Good job, I'm convinvced =/.

Latilock is AMAZING vs a Garchomp that is a basic and has a basic Stoise δ in play. In fact, all of your cards utterly fail once a Chomp and Stoise are revived other than Cess and Breloom. Cess already hurts decks with powers, nothing new here. Breloom, however, will be a good tech in the upcoming format, and not just for Garchomp.

All of that... two pokemon... got it.
Breloom was evil at Fl Regs, and will be even more fun Vs alot of these new decks.
