Kecleon has a body that reduces damage done to it by 40 if the Attacking Pokemon and a basic energy attached to Kecleon are the same type. Kecleon's attack can do damage to one of your Pokemon if you flip tails. What happens if you use Weavile's Dark Engage on Kecleon (while it has basic Darkness on it, of course) and you flip tails on his attack? Since Kecleon is the attacking Pokemon, would it reduce the damage done to itself by 40, thus resulting in no damage?

No. Read the Poke-Body carefully.

If any basic Energy card attached to Kecleon is the same type as the Attacking Pokemon's type, any damage done by attacks from that Pokemon to Kecleon is reduced by 40(after applying Weakness & Resistance).

"From that Pokemon" is referring to your opponent's Active Pokemon. Therefore, Kecleon will not reduce the damage...

It doesn't say opponent's Active Pokemon, it says Attacking Pokemon. If Kecleon fails the flip and chooses itself to do damage to...it technically is the Attacking Pokemon, and it is taking damage. How can you infer that Attacking Pokemon or "from that Pokemon" = opponent's Active Pokemon?

Is Keckleon the attacking pokemon? Clearly so. The opponent isn't declaring an attack. Benched Weavile isn't declaring an attack.

The rest of the criteria is met... I'm no judge, but I'd expect the ruling to be "Yes, Keckleon reduces its self damage".

Of course, setting up a stage 1 and a basic, and making sure the basic has a basic dark (as well as a basic useful type to block damage from something worthwhile like Gardevoir) is much more work then just playing Old Amber, whom is protected from everything AND is Psychic Lock immune, unlike Dark Engage.

BUT if you run it as a tech in a Weavile-Darkrai deck, you're doing like 80 for 2. Kecleon and Old Amber is too gimmicky. I'm actually surprised this didn't come up in SW prereleases...
