after katrina the gas fluctuated by 50 cents in 1 day

Thats because around 40% of all of Texas's and Louisiana's Refineries went offline before the storms, and they take about a week-two weeks for the fuel to get back into the system.

I think its time for the US and UN to start forcing the Money Mongers to reduce their fuel prices. Just think about it for a sec, they are profiting by DOUBLE digits in the BILLIONS, while other companies are having a hard time even netting a zero gain in the markets due to the fuel costs. Another Example: Airlines will eventually have to raise costs so much to compensate for the fuels jumps that it will jepordize their companies...

FORCE SANCTIONS ON THEM!

Man, I wish I was in Congress right now, or even President...Id bug them until they took action! Which brings me to my next point, people are getting tired of this stuff and our Govt has yet to do anything HELPFUL 9and plz dont say "Gas Tax Holiday," Thats a joke, for the people who dont know better, or it sounds like a good idea without looking at the overall savings of it ( I heard like $30-75 a person over the course of that "holiday"...)

Sure...anymore, it's typical to see prices jump by 20 cents. Typically though it doesn't decrease by more than 5 cents at a time though. But I am interested in hearing more about the boycott. Was it just spread by internet, or was there some kind of mass media thing in your area that makes you think that it was more than one of those silly email chain letters, and that many people were participating in it?

word of mouth

They always say gas will go down.

yeah it goes down about 1 cent, next day it goes up 10 cents.

So true, the day of cheap gas is looong gone. I remember when I was a kid my dad use to fill up his truck for like $10 now you would be lucky to make it a day on that much. He told me his truck use to get 9 miles to the gallon. And I still remember him teaching me to drive it when i was like 7......Armstrong steering was horrible unless you could power the truck up to make the turn! LOL

okay it is a bit out of date but anyway http://www.aip.com.au/pricing/internationalprices.htm

The big thing to notice is that the majority of OECD countries governments directly benefit from increased tax revenue with increasing oil price - a benefit at a time when decreased economic activity may be impacting on tax revenue elsewhere. Despite what any government may tell you none of them ever voluntarily cuts its income.

another page of data.. http://www.whatgas.com/press/petrol-comparison.aspx watch out for the change of scale on the graphs. Oil price is rising but is not resulting in a one to one increase in cost at the pump. The cost of crude is a big factor but not the whole story.

Over $4 here the last month, and I'm beyond tired of this garbage. Do something about it, it's killing the economy.

Well, the US and the rest of the world are beginning to suffer from the reprecussions ... now the question is when will the bubble burst.

Right now gas is around $4.70 US/gallon in where I live ($1.24/L x 3.8 L/gallon) ... this makes my 7-hour drive from Toronto to Origins in Columbus quite expensive at around $70 one way (though still much cheaper and faster than Greyhound). Pity that there isn't more passgeners to offset the cost since I only have one at the moment.

With prices like they are purchasing of a motorcycle wouldn't be such a bad idea. Or maybe even a scooter.

Good point and it's already happening -- as of yesterday American Airlines announced they'd begin charging $15 for any bags checked by non-first class passengers due to an 80% increase in fuel prices over the past year.

What's really sad is the degree to which futures speculation affects the price of oil and in turn, our economies.

Md. Gas price

Right now it's $3.79 per gallon in Maryland, but that could change in a heart beat.. This keeps up you will soon see the highways filled with Bikers and Rollerbladers or people with gas cans heading towards a distant sign "Gas 10.00 per price lowest price for miles"

4.09 here in Urbana. One gas station had an unadvertised promotion of 3.65, and the line was around the block for that one.
