Disclaimer: Just for reference, this thread is about the seemingly haphazard censoring of the word beginning with "C" and synonymous with "poop." I was not seriously trying to be a dillweed about it, nor was I trying to bypass the filters because I wanted to be daring. The whole letter-substitution thing was the first thing that came to mind, and I'm sorry if that qualifies as bypassing the filters. I hope that anyone else who reads this now recognizes that the intent of this thread was a stimulating discussion about censors which might hopefully result in us being allowed to type the afore-mentioned C word, not a vessel in which Mods are to be annoyed. If this matters, also note that this is the first word that I, a lover of all slang words, have thought did not deserve a ban.

---------------------------------------------------------

I want to be able to say ["crip" with an "a" instead of an "i"] again. There is no way to replace that wonderful, magical word with another word without sounding as utterly uncool as one of those little kids who picked up casual swearing but can't swear whenever he wants because his mommy is always sitting right next to him. This is especially vexing given that I can still say I had a crappy time, and that I damn everyone who caused me to have such a crappy time, but I can't say what those damn people who made me have such a crappy time are full of (here's a hint: ["crip" with an "a" instead of an "i"]).

I'll forfeit that banning ["hill" with an "e" instead of an "i"] was probably a stellar idea (I use that quite often, even on here, but I can see how that would offend many a Pokegym-surfing Pokemon parent), but banning "crip" with an "a" instead of an "i" just seems a little bit too unnecessary. There are numerous times in just the past month when a cleverly inserted ["crip" with an "a" instead of an "i"] would have cinched an argument or added zest and zing to a cutting remark, but I had to change it because crap makes me sound like my mom somehow broke into my house and is now watching me type. Plus, most kids these days don't even know what crap is. Heck, i only know it as meat that goes wonderfully with cheese, mayo and bread. Yummy, crap.

Now, if pressure to censor ["crip" with an "a" instead of an "i"] came from parents or some sort of organization, I completely understand. If I was in your position, I'd definitely side with people who can sue me over lovable, immature adults who watch too much Family Guy and enjoy racy humor, but if y'all just decided to censor it because you wanted to, could you please (pretty please) change it back?

(Please note that I meant no disrespect by posting this, and that if I do not get what I want, I won't try to bypass the filters or anything like that.)

Thanks in advance.

-Marvin

I was at least one of the people who pushed for that C word to be censored. I feel it should have been censored before some other words, including ***, **** and **********.

Their forums, their rules. There's plenty of other places you can go out to use swear words and whatever.

I second this.
As a fanfic writer who writes above a 5th grade level, I use swear words.
I change these swear words to replacement words so they can be put on pokegym, and the 'c' word is one of those replacement words.
The fact that a swear replacement word is itself being replaced is ridiculous.

Yeah, you're right... but that word isn't even bad. It is perfectly acceptable in a school enviroment. Personally I say words like frickin, freakin, WTF, etc should be banned instead. Even though none of these words are widely used on Pokegym.

Pokegym even banned a foreign Pokemon's name and a popular social networking site's name... but at least those things can have some bad stuff... (BTW mods, several people have links to that social site that I was talking about listed in their profiles )

Yeah, crip (with an a) being banned doesn't make much sense. It's not even on the official offenesive word list. Damn would have to be banned first imho, but it's a word that Pokemom uses sometimes, so I guess it's ok.

What? Balony is a horrible substitute.

How about bologna. Isn't that how you're supposed to spell it? now that would really confuse the kiddies. Then they'd go around school yelling: "O BOLOHGNAA!!11!1 I didn't do my homework."

I'm pretty certain that a certain spelling involving flipping the third and fourth letters in "rogue" will probably cause problems. I don't see anything wrong with "red face paint" (U-then-G), yet this whole replacment thing would make something intended for a jewel-thief bat appear to wind up with a mutant power-absorber.

QFT : Mario is not a deck

****: reasonable grounds, not too nice a word
crap: well, maybe they just want to promote articulate conversation :)

Gonna rant even more on this!
Why exactly do we have issues with these words? The answer is simple. There are still a surisingly large percent of people who still seem to believe it a lost cause we like to call "The Pruitan faith" To these people, I look at for about 2 seconds andsimply say "Grow the **** up already!" What do you think is gonna happen if I say those words, huh? Look at this. People of the 21st centruy still think and act like we landed on plymouth rock last wek! It's been 500 frickin' years. God is not going to damn us all if we say those words(trust me, if he was, he would have already done it by now.) While I'm certainly not saying "Okay, away with the censors NOW!", I honestly think it's time for people to quit being so damn childish over this, and accept this par of the english language. Besides, if we didn't swear(like you puritan scum want) we'd find ever more violent ways to relieve stress.(murder, ****,etc.)

Maybe your arguments would make a little more sense if you spelled stuff right. What part of this don't you people get? This is a privately owned forum. The owners of the board can set any rules they want to. If you don't like it, go to another board and cuss to your little shriveled heart's content.

Incidentally, this is a beat-up keyboard I'm typing on(some keys get funky on me). And you misunderstand me. I don't expect(nor wish) for the Gym to change their rules. I just feel that, on a public scale, lots of people need to get over it!

P.S.Shriveled heart? c'mon man, I ain't that twisted.

(assuming that the above is sarcasm) Well, it's about cursing and censoring. Don't tell me you thought it would be a pretty and nice debate.

I've seen PG movies that have a lot worse material in them than in the comparison to 'crip'. Need I reference a certain priest in the Little Mermaid, Casper, or Matilda? Because I have definitely seen and heard worse from those particular films.

I grew up being able to say 'crip', and not 'damn'. If anything, I'd assume it to be the opposite, that 'damn' be banned as a matter of taste. (I still get yelled at by my mom when I say it, and I'm 19, if that gives you any sort of idea how I grew up.) H-e-double toothpick should be all but banned for the appropriate mentions to the place. Hades doesn't do it the same justice...granted, it shouldn't be thrown around left and right. I definitely agree with Burninating_Torchic here, though- not allowing a more innocent word than 'damn' is not easy to work with when handling adult characters in fanfics. I say, if possible, allow 'he-double toothpick' and 'crip' in the fanfic area when used sparingly.

I say, take a look at the world. I had some 4th grader shout out from a bus at me when I was moderately dressed in a tee and baggy jeans, 'Sexy forever baby!'

Something tells me 'crip' wouldn't be that big a deal to change.

Very nicely put, If you wish to speak freely then why not make your own site and you can curse and whine to your little hearts desire. I have worked for 2 sites now and personally think it should remain simple and not allow certain words for the sake of younger people.

wow, this is a very kid friendly thread......
Honestly.:nonono: There are far better things to do than whine about why you should be allowed to swear. I don't think I've ever seen such childish arguing (marril should show up any time...). It is up to the owners if they want people swearing on their forums.

I actualy know a 10 year old kid who's parents yanked him off Pokegym for life (or at least till he moves out) and don't let him use the computer (that part is unreasonable) because he stumbled across some thread where someone was evading the word ban. Grow up!!!!:nonono:

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Well said!
