2007 when did you drop? 2008 when will you drop?

Last year trips were on the line. Most people know how Kettler went to Nats with high Hopes of doing well but after losing game one droped to protect his points, invite and trip. I respect him for that . He had to and if you were him and half as smart you would have too. So First question is if you played in Nats last year and droped when did you? Why?

Now on to the future of U.S. Nationals. You have points and might be on the bubble. You want to play but you also want a invite. You don't want to go to Worlds and play the grinder after playing so many premier events for the invite. You enter First round pairings to see how its going to go and is the metagame going to go your way today. Suddenly somewhere things may go wrong. When will you drop? Why?
 
I went, and dropped after 2 rounds. I did this for a couple reasons. First, I got totally hammered both rounds by two copies of basically the same deck. Second, having been my first constructed tournament, I wasn't expecting a 9 round tournament. Third, there was another CCG tournament I wanted to play in (of which I came in first place and won a complete set of the first expansion :biggrin:)

I'm not going this year, mostly because of the cost, but also because I'm going on vacation that week.

I was planning on going 5-0 and then dropping last year. I got to 4-0 before losing because of horrible prizes and time. (I may have been able to comeback) and ended up going 6-3 after starting 4-0/6-1. I dont think I would drop this year but you never know.

My boyfriend and I ended up dropping after round 6. We knew at that point, it didn't matter. I had a strong 3-0 start, and then things just went downhill, and I ended up 3-3. Not playing this year, but I'm rooting for my team to do well.
 
I didn't drop in 07 and made t32. I don't plan on dropping this year as I have to get a ton points to make t25 anyway.
 
Pokemon tournaments are dumb.
I love the competition and playing in em but this point system has made these past two years so cut throat and nerve-racking. AND for people like me who still play for fun rather than worrying about points it has become such a pain to see so much tension and aggression between players.

Honestly, I know for a fact that I can't get an invite via points. I have a busy schedule with School, work and a social life. I'd much rather be on a date or hanging out with friends on a Friday night than playtesting for some tournament that I don't even know if my schedule will permit for.
And, I don't have the time or patience to go to every pokemon tournament in the state of texas.
Honestly this game isn't important enough for me to devote my life to.

I would never drop a tournament like Nationals to save my ranking. I'm just not that competitive.
 
In previous Nationals, I would drop after the 5th or 6th round, going 2-3 or 2-4 or 3-3. And I got used to doing that, so we would plan other events in the late afternoon/evening.

Last year I was 4-1 after 5 rounds, and 6-2 after 8 rounds (losing the last round to knock me out of the top 32).

It was very weird because I really didn't expect to be playing that late and all my plans (for games as well as dinner) flew out the window because I did so much better than expected/usual!

I figure I'll be back to my old form this year and go 2-3 drop.
 
Dropping is so stupid.
PUI should make it so you loose points for dropping.
Now if you drop because you know you cant do anything and you would rather go have fun or something then thats understandable.
But dropping just to protect rankings is just lame.
Again, you should loose points for that.
 
I actually never dropped, though I probably should have. I was doing decently well, but ended up as 6-3 thanks to some unlucky matches (Mario wasn't being my best friend that day...should've known better. ;_; )
 
Why drop? I play for fun n' friends. Besides, I started this year and started late, so I have next to no points. Even if I did have a lot, I think I'd play it out.

I dropped after the 4th round but mainly because I wanted to be more accessible to my kiddos and enjoy their matches from afar. I had a decent record (3-1 W,W,L,W) but I was never expecting to make top cut or win a trip or anything like that. The only downside of Nationals to me is that the Juniors and Masters are so far apart physically. Everyone that I played was nice enough to let me sit on the side of the table so I could try to watch the Junior area and I had other parents keeping an eye on the boys and meeting places and rules and all that jazz but it is a big place and I'm an overprotective parent. :smile:

I have no plans for this year beyond going and playing and having fun. If I feel that I need to drop for my sanity or kids' safety I will.
 
This year, without the invites going out with the ratings, there's no real point to dropping. If you're scared you might lose your points, suck it up, and play.

He was playing too! We really enjoy playing but we put the kids first so one or both of often drop if needed at large tournaments to keep everything under control. It isn't usually an issue at smaller events like BRs and Cities and even States. He was 3-1 and I felt that he had a better shot so I volunteered.

Thanks Dustin for posting your point ranking. At 1867 You are an example I am looking for if you don't mind. If you do I'll edit. If the Season ended today you would be gitting an invite only to Worlds. That to us would be Great News. We have plane tickets already to Worlds So we are going anyway. But the season is not over yet. So at 4-2 maybe this year is that enough to be getting an invite? Or is that second loss one to many? Does one stay in and hope for 5-2 which may or may not make top cut. I think a 4-3 would put one in the Grinder. It is fun to play the grinder as we did two years ago. But the goal from the first Fall BR this year has been to get an invite. I didn't make the system but some how we got caught up into it and don't want it to end with making the wrong decision.
