I should be moving up quite a bit on Monday morning. I went 11-2 for two tournies. I expect to go up about 13-15 points and move into 29th place on the rankings.

Well, the point threshold is that much greater now...

Before BR's: 1840-ish
After BR's: 1862.

Luckily, I doubt we'll see the overall threshold go "up" too much after nationals...If the top ranked Canadians/Mexicans do not do super at nationals, and the Americans do, then expect it to be as high as 1870.

Congratulations (and admiration :smile to John Kettler, Ross Cawthon and Matthew Koo for taking home the "biggest gainer" status moving up >=20 spots in the T50!!! Very nice playing.

By my quickie analysis the "play or not" decision isn't too hard to make. If you're very high ranked, playing is unlikely to hurt you (of the top 10 I believe only one moved down and that was just 1 spot). On the other hand if you're on the bubble invitation wise, you should play because the folks who chose not to play dropped between 3 and 4 spots with more movement the lower you were (e.g. Paul didn't move at all but the players around the 20 spot dropped 5 ish. So overall I think there's every reason to play!

I mean it doesn't make sense how he is nearly 100 pts. above 2nd place.
It doesn't even seem possible. That's almost like every tournament you participate in you go undefeated, right?

Well, when you have a decent rating and you like 11-0 or something at regionals your going to jump a heck of a lot.

He was already top 10 after cities and then went 10-1 at states and 11-0 at regs. With those k values, it would take about 105-5 in battle roads to match that gain. (not exactly since states was k 36 not k 40, but close enough).
The current rating system is now heavily based in those 2 tournaments, and of course nats.

With that in mind, if you get a good point gain from Battle Roads, then it undoubtedly means something.

I would not have shot up 55 points (the amount it'll roughly be after my last tourney is fixed) if not for the fact that I was consistently beating people who had also top cut my regional - or bubbled via resistance.

Two reasons:

1) I went a really good record. 28-1 is actually better than last year's 28-2.

2) I played against many high-ranked people. Of my twenty nine games...

*4/29 VS 1500-1599.99

*10/29 VS 1600-1699

*11/29 VS 1700-1799

*4/29 VS 1800-1899


The mean ranking of my battle road opponents is around 1730 - not bad for 8k events, I guess!

Yeah, and 28-1 is A LOT better than 21-4. For me, I was gaining 1.75-2.25 pts for most wins, and losing 5.75-6.25 for most losses, so every loss wiped out about 3 wins. So Kettler looks like 25-0, while Drew looks like 9-0. About 3 times higher.
Let's see, I was 43-6 I think. So about 25-0 gain, and I got 60 points like Kettler.
