I've noticed a couple things about weakness and resistance over the last few sets that have caused me to raise an eyebrow. With weaknesses, a lot of them are just wrong, and with resistance, they're just inconsistant.
With weaknesses some of most popular pokemon seem to have the incorrect weakness. A couple examples I've noticed are the following
Lucario should not be weak to psychic, it should be weak to Fire or Fighting
Dialga is not weak to Fire, and Palkia is not weak to Electric
Bronzong weak to psychic... just wrong
Drapion weak to psychic... or wait... Drapion is resistant to Ghost & Poison, and immune to Psychic...:nonono:
I really wish that they would take the time and make sure that all of the weaknesses made sense
Resistances suffer from inconsistancy. I understand the pokemon that have immunities should have resistances (for example dark pokemon should be resistant to psychic) but other than that there should be some consistancy with resistances. Why do electric and grass Pokemon get resistances, but fire and water types don't? It doesn't seem right to me. Actually why do grass Pokemon get a resistance in the first place? Sure they're resistant to water attacks, but they're weak to ice, so it's pretty much a wash.
I know the weaknesses aren't all that important of an issue to the TCG, but as an avid player of the video games it's something that bothers me when I look at all of these cards. I think the resistances is an issue though. I believe that either (1) Only pokemon with immunities should have resistances, or (2) ALL pokemon have resistances. What do you all think?
