It looks like there are two ideas about prereleases. One is that they are tournaments which should live up to that title with some kind of reward for its winners. The other is that prereleases should be a kind of "glorified league" where there is some play, a fair amount of trading, and a good amount of swapping of deck ideas/strategies, and a casual (almost in the extreme) environment.
There is a rewards on both sides I get the feeling from your post is that the only reward is a prize, to me the most important ones are that of a players accomplishment in winning, and also the satisfaction that they may have helped grow the game and attracted new players to the game!
Should we play rounds until everyone has won atleast one game? .
CameraMan, your rewards sound more aligned with what a league is.
Not that those things can't or don't happen at a tournament, because they certainly do, but the point of a tournament is to find an overall winner of the event. If you're not going to preserve that goal, then it is not a tournament, by definition of a tournament. The winner of a tournament should get a little more of some reward (a pin, a winner's card like WotC used to do, some other idea) as the others. Otherwise, there is no point in being the winner, so a prerelease tournament is not living up to its title.
1. What does everybody think about the Pre-relase promo? (does this question deserve its own thread?)
