Political views in Pokegym?

Okay, we all know what I am talking about. Recently, in the past few days, there have been quite a few threads about politics or political issues on the RTC.

This thread is to discuss these threads. Not the issues, because that is pretty much what I am against in this thread.

I am going to personally say that I think it is a little dumb to bring up these things on PokeGym. I feel like PokeGym is a community that brings together people who have a common love for a game. It fells like, to me at least, when political issues are brought up, it creates a political boundary, where people are just like, "So and so is this, and so and so is that!"

Discuss.

I would have to agree with you there. Religion and politics should be left out of places where they could cause cracks in comeraderie and friendships. I have very strong feelings and views in both religion and politics and I feel everybody has the right to have their own views too. The problem comes up when mud starts getting thrown around due to differences in those views. We are all friends here. Let's keep it that way.

Honestly, I was getting a little bored with the RTC. I wanted something to discuss that wasn't ^has a Salamence avatar, or 1/10-no information or funny quotes, or That's What You Get~Paramore. You know what I mean?

I can't speak for the rest of the staff.

I'm fine with the posting of political or controversial topics, as long as the discussion remains civilized. I don't like seeing personal attacks, arguments that are either poorly reasoned or completely baseless, or posts that simply don't have a point (I agree, etc).

I agree, I like discussing political topics, but things always tend to get out of control.

Exactly, whenever a political discussion gets posted, either it degrades down to, "you're a doodyhead because you don't have the same political orientation as I do," or the conversation gets nowhere and neither side is really satisfied. People like taking sides and declaring that their side has these exact, set, unwavering values and there's nothing in between, and anyone who says different is an idiot. BTW, major kudos to anyone who doesn't fall into that trap. Really, even if you disagree with me on an issue, thank you for thinking for yourself and not falling into all this polarization that's been happening lately.

I disagree. Topics on intellectual subjects are always good. Most of our peers are not interested in those discussions, and there's clearly a group that is interested here.

There have been good discussion, and most of the discussion that degrade into bad ones at least started out with plenty of merit.

A few bad apples doesn't spoil the very idea of apple picking, let alone enjoying some well-made apples :thumb:

A lot of these topics are always interesting to begin with, but there are always a few people that decide to post attacks on people, or insult others. We feel that it's not necessary to get a point across. So the topics usually get closed.

You could always delete there posts, give an infraction and tell them they cant post in that thread again.

"You can't force someone to feel the same as you. They can't force you to fell the same as they. Thus it is playing tug of war with both ends tied to fully grown Redwood trees. It ain't going anywhere so why even try. Eventually both sides get mad that no progress is being made for their arguement and begin to attack the opponet. Meanwhile the only thing accomplished is a show for the people watching to laugh at."

Anarchy I say, Anarchy!

That just adds a lot of unnecessary work.

The community had their chance. They proved they're not mature enough to discuss big-boy topics. Too bad.

(IMO)

The is the PokeGym. The reason we're here is supposed to be a common appreciation for Pokemon. Aside from that, all bets are off.

I don't think there's anything wrong with disucssing things we disagree on. Personally, I love a good debate. The problem is whether it can be kept civil and away from insults and intense stubbornness. Based on my experiences, the odds aren't great.

I disagree. As long as people remain civil, then political discussion on a board like Pokegym is actually quite interesting. We have so many different backgrounds, it'd be a shame to miss out on a good convo every now and then.

With that said...Down with Obama.

I think its always a good idea to have open discussions... even if they can get a little heated. I don't get why people have to be so prudish about it, maybe Pokegym isn't the place, maybe we should tone it down a little but I say the more the merrier.. I would rather talk about issues that actually matter than some card game.

I disagree I do not share same political views and religious views with people and get along with them just fine.

Mr J Kettler is a great friend of mine even though he is an athiest/ and I am not :O

So long as it doesn't get out of hand, I think it's good (but the Mods had still better keep an eye on them). I personaly love discusing and debating important issues, of all things political, scientific and moral.

So for those of you who still want to have the debates, keep it civil.

Aha, yeah, I like discussing stuff, but I just find that PokeGym isn't the greatest place.

The debate can't get too heated up here.

well the issue can be debated, as long as it remains civil

Think of it this way.

Can you say it on your High School Debate team? If not, then dont post it here.

personal attacks, threats, and the like will NOT be tolerated here.
