So... I got some vintage Macintosh computers today.... what can I do with them?

Today my dad found some computers sitting outside of a business with FREE signs on them. He got them for me and they're both very old Macs.

One is a a "Macintosh Plus 1MB" wow... 1MB lol... anyway... I have the mouse and keyboard for it, and when I turn it on it shows this disk icon so I guess I need some kind of floppy to use it :frown:

The other is a "Macintosh IIfx" I looked this badboy up on Wikipedia and these things used to cost $9,000 to $12,000!!!!! WOAH... well, this one turns on and boots to the desktop no problem... only problem is that I don't have a mouse for it and it needs some weird mouse that has a cable like an S-Video cable.

So anybody have any ideas what I can do with them? Any good games worth trying to play on these things? What will I need to make the one that shows a disk icon to work. I really want to use that little guy!

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the IIfx is very rare and that the 1MB is worth about $60... not sure if I should hold on to them for a long time to see if the value goes up further.

I think I played a game called Crystal Crazy (I don't know if that's how you spell it), Spin Doctor, Dino Park Tycoon, and Math Munchers on a Mac a long time ago. :)
 
Mod them. Do the vented cases with neon lighting and such. That is the most awesome use of old PC's ever. Maybe even paint the cases with some pokemon/other scene that would be totally awesome!

Not sure I want to try Math Munchers or Dino Park Tycoon lol, but I'll look up the other ones. Thanks.

It is a mouse type I've never even before. PS/2 won't fit, although it looks like it would. I actually used an S-Video cable (didn't come with one) to connect the keyboard to the computer and that worked. Found that pretty strange :lol: I think it needs a mouse with that same jack. I actually had to use a male to male cable since the keyboard had its own female jack on it... at first I thought the keyboard was wireless or that the wire had been ripped off, but apparently it just needed an S-Video cable.

I've had other similar things happen like I have a Commodore Vic 20 and a C64 but no working power cords for them.s

I don't want to decrease their value though. I mean the IIfx is apparently very rare because look on eBay and people try to sell only the case of the computer for $100... then a guy selling the working system for $400. I doubt anyone would buy the stuff any time soon but it is obviously something special and I don't want to wreck it.

Yeah, happens a lot. Last week I got an old digital camera that works perfectly and a Netgear ProSave FPN 8-Port LAN switch firewall (haven't tested this yet) out of the top of a dumpster from a business that was closing. Both of those things are sellable... I didn't want the 2.1 digital camera but wow people pay for the 8 year old thing on eBay! I like "trash". :lol: People will make fun of you when you're trash picking... but when you pull something good out they'll turn all jealous I like that :wink:


Ok, so if I buy one of those games and put it in the 1MB mac that displays the floppy icon with a flashing question mark, will it boot the software?
 
Unless you have ample trash storage space, sell the IIfx. You can probably get anywhere from $2-300 for it, which is far more than it's worth functionally, heh.
