Unowns; can they really be taken seriously?

Hey guys.

I was looking through some cards today and started thinking about Unowns. It got me wondering, can they be used predominantly in some kind of deck?

Obviously some are used as techs (eg. Unown P), however a lot of them have Pokepowers that require multiple Unowns to be on the bench (NOD, ITEM etc), which would be quite difficult. Does anybody ever use Unowns in such a way that utilizes these powers? I have never seen it used.

Obviously the powers aren't very good, but it would be cool just as a fun deck. I am considering making a deck with various Unowns, draw cards, Claydol and probably a main attacker that can do damage while the Unowns do their thing. Does anybody have a rough on what a good decklist of this nature would be? I am gonna start working in one later on.

Thanks

I really wouldn't put my trust in the Unowns, they just don't have what it takes IMO. Some of the cool Unowns are things like Unown G and Unown L, but they just don't seem worth it to me. Their easy to kill, and their attacks just can't get much done. A fun deck maybe, competitive? Nope.
If you're going for a fun deck of Unowns, you may wanna harness Unown L since it can copy the Unowns' attacks and use any of them, which makes things easier rather than having to power up all the other unowns, just power up L.

Few unowns can be taken seriousley, there aren't more that 5 of these. And building a deck of them won't get you anywhere.

My young son recently made an Unown deck and it won some battles at league so we want to take a closer look at them as well. When I looked at his deck it was entirely Unowns and energy! He had an 'only Unowns' theme in mind and he took it seriously. So obviously there is much room for improvement for his list. Some of the Unowns can be nice stallers and disruptors. I was thinking of trying to update the list with trainers/supporters and maybe one other Pokemon line. I want to look through the psychic as that is probably the best addition. Any suggestions?

I am thinking Unowns might work alright with Cresselia Lv.X. It can move damage counters from your Pokemon to the opponent's and is generally a pretty good attacker.

Maybe:

2-2 Cressy Lv.X
2-2 Claydol
A heap of Unowns
4 call energy
4 Night Maintenance

Etc.

I wouldn't underestimate the damage potential on P or Z, and the new unowns in LA are going to help with some of there flaws. Unown L can be made into a pretty sick attacker, and a suprise hit from Unown G can actually almost lay out a Gardevior/Gallade in 1 hit.

You have the advantage having a deck that uses a TON of basics, as well as a single energy type. You can either drill home youe type advantage (lake boundry would give you an almost insta win vs G&G, with a good unown build), while crystal beach for the short time it remains would slow your opponent down, giving your devastating speed even more of a sickening edge.

I made a sample decklist, I might try playing this.

3 unown e (hp boost)
1 unown l ( copy all unown attacks)
2 unown z ( move all damage from all unown to defending pokemon)
2 unown u (protect bench)
4 unown r (move energy around+ draw cards with power)
3 unown w ( has 120 hp with snowpoint and e)
1 unown q ( retreat)
1 unown c( get more unowns)

total: 20

4 snowpoint
4 warp poiint
4 energy patch
4 pluspower
3 rosy

19

4 call energy
12 psy

Not finished, but here's the main strategy: Get unown c out with call energy. Use its power to get lots of unowns. snowpoint and unown e let your unowns survive big attacks. Your main attacker is unown w. do 50 or 60 damage, and when unown w is nearly dead, put it on the bench with an unown u so it can stay protected. unown r can help transport energy if you need to, but if you don't need to, bring out another unown w and repeat the step. Once you have 150 or so damage on your unowns, use z to transport it all to the opponent and heal your unown ws.

Unown G is easily playable!

And I still have fun getting all the Unown! I collect heaps of each one, just so I can spell stuff on my binder, whatever.

I used an UnownM/Q combo tech in the Prof Cup to counter Donphan. It was an amazing tech.

In the right deck, against the right deck, in the right format, they CAN be useful.

I use Unown L/Z with Drifblim, but I also wanted to use Unown O/N/E--the deck doesn't work very well. I like the cards, and have a blast when I use an Unown deck at League. I wouldn't play it in a tournament, though, because only having 60HP at max is a recipe for disaster.

But the "spelling combinations" are not worth the effort, I would say.]

Maybe using Unown L/Z/others with Torterra MD would be better, but that may be difficult to do.

Unown Q, G, P, and others are decent, but only as the occasional tech.

(Q is actually worse that I thought it was, it only gives -1 Retreat, not free...)

The Unown Q would perhaps be somewhat broken if it gave free Retreat cost. But, there are plenty of cards that only have 1 Retreat that can be abused with Unown Q... like most starters!

An Unown deck? No. Not gonna happen.

However, I find Unown G extremely useful, especially next format, I see it with good use in AMU, against Machamp.

OHOHOHOHOHOHO!

but seriously, Unown W/Z with snowpoint isnt a TERRIBLE idea... not like its a tourney winning combo or anything.
