Current Format: DP-LA

Strategy:

The deck in itself is very flexible, but boils down to one main point. Use Gliscor LvX’s Night Slash to switch Gliscor with any of a number of pokemon, and abuse the said pokemon’s effect. These pokemon include, but are not limited to, Mr. Mime, Venomoth, Shedinja, Gyarados, Shuckle, Torkoal, and Lopunny. Once the said pokemon is active, a simple energy attachment or Unown Q placement put Gliscor back to the active position, allowing for another turn of hit-and-run.

Mr. Mime stalls out any deck with cheap attacks, which is most of the DP-on format. This method prevents damage done to Gliscor, while still dealing a hefty damage of 60 per turn. If you include poison damage, that 60 per turn one shots any pokemon with 130 HP.

Venomoth sets up a 2HKO with Night Slash, while also setting up a total of 100 damage with Gliscor’s Pester. The power behind this makes up for the lack of hit-and-run, because knocking out something strong can often be a method of stall in itself.

Shedinja does damage to possibly multiple targets, and also has an option of an attack, with free retreat as well! Your opponent finds themselves in a situation where they either KO you and take 40, or damage you. If they damage you, you place 3 and confuse. Which unless they retreat gives Pester the +40. The only downfall is the lack of HP and that it doesn’t inflict status conditions to set up Pester.

Gyarados soaks up damage and deals it back +30. A strong attacker, but it gets stuck active easily. It’s best used specifically as a powerhouse for fighting against Magmortar.

Shuckle has the same stall method as Mime, but it cannot be hit by anything that used Call energy to set up. Multi energy is made useless along with special dark and metal. I personally prefer Mr. Mime due to and opponent’s ability to discard their special energy by retreating.

Torkoal helps solve a big problem Scorpio faces in general. Bench damage. Gliscor’s hit-and-run method becomes null versus sniping and spreading, and Torkoal forces the opponent to hit (and likely KO) Torkoal. Its main problem is the two retreat cost, however it is easily OHKOed, so you should never need to retreat it. Its attack also hurts doing 30 and a possible burn and paralyze for RC

Lopunny, while doing virtually nothing vs. sniping, is very good at stopping spread. Plenty of good spread decks have very little straight damage, or their straight damage takes a lot of energy. Lanturn/Tentacruel, Froslass, and Empoleon come to mind. Even without the body, drawing three cards for no energy is a great option for setting up. If paired with evoluter and call, set up is nearly guaranteed to be quick.

When comboed with Unown Q, almost all of these pokemon have free retreat, allowing to attack and switch every turn with a said teched pokemon.

Now the deck runs plenty of one-ofs, it's the only way to fit in as much tech as it needs, so one might be scared that in a time of need, a certain pokemon from a certain needed line will be prized. This is when Azelf comes into play. You retreived your buried pokemon, and toss a different tech that you may not need to be your last prize. It's also handy to remember which prizes are which, so that you pull the prizes that you need.

Now, before building your deck, make sure you have a good idea of what your local metagame will look like, you don’t want to tech for the wrong decks, because then you probably won’t do so good, as this deck lives on its techs.

Energy: 15

8 Fighting
4 Call
2 Energy based on techs

Play Style:
The setup of this deck can be achieved with nearly any starter; however Chatot, Mr. Mime, or Lopunny is preferred. Chatot enables one to lay out their hand, and reshuffle for a new one, which in nearly any S1 deck, is great for setup. Lopunny, while being a S1, draws three cards each turn, it does contradict Claydol, however. Mr. Mime is a great starter, because it guarantees that you won’t get a donk loss for the first couple of turns in the game, allowing you to plan a comeback accordingly.

The attacking comes in as soon as you get an LvX out, you lay it down, and Night Shift immediately. This can be done as early as T3! You attack, and then act like you never did. This gets rid of virtually any starter, as most have either 60 HP or are weak to fighting. Chatot is annoying though. If the opponent has no starter active, but something bulky and fully evolved, then setting up a Gliscor with zero energy and attacking with Burning Poison gives the same feel of a hit-and-run method, but is much quicker, taking zero energy and a mere S1 to complete, and forces them to bench their toughie or suffer in the long run. This especially hurts S2’s with two retreat cost, as retreating puts them two turns behind, or they waste a Warp Point.

Matchups:

Kingdra: 80-20
This match up is simple enough. You really only need 1 Gliscor LvX, because it should NEVER take more then the 20 damage it gets from Kingdra’s bench attack. Simply Night Shift every turn, and switch up to a Mime. Having two benched Mimes is essential, otherwise, Regice and Warp Point ruins the game plan.

UMA: 60-40
This match up is also pretty simple, but can be tricky. At many points you will stuck with a very tough decision. Do I Night Shift and play safe, or do I Pester for 90 and KO their big threat? Don’t make the wrong decision, is all I can say. Also you can be caught off guard early if you can’t stall properly.

Emploeon: 35-65
This is a really tough game. Bench damage AND weakness at the same time! The Gliscor in question needs Lopunny to stand a chance. If they get an early Emp, just use and early Burning Poison, as stated in the play style section of the article. In other cases Night Shift all the time, leaving Gliscor active is a no-no as 60-30 spread is ridiculous and KOing Gliscor just blows. Putting up Lopunny heals a lot of the spread, which are helpful, healing 20 of the 30 spread every turn. If they straight up KO Lopunny, that means a follow up KO on the Emp could ruin their day, as they took three turns for them to pull that off.

Leafymag: 25-75
They have so much energy accel that Mime doesn’t do squat. They have great sniping AND spreading options AND Bind Down shuts down the hit-and-run method, to top it all off. If you tech Gyarados and strike early you may just have a chance… Otherwise, sorry about your luck, there is nothing much that can be done here.

TurnCruel: 60-40
They spread well, but Lopunny (if used) practically shuts that aspect down, and Venomoth (if used) sets up OHKOs with Pester. It may be tough if they get an early lead, as they can attack with zero or one energy, which could be problematic. Just keep up the pace, and you should do fine.

Magnezone: 55-45 (in thirty minutes)
If you run Shuckle, this is it. With the hit and run method using Shuckle, you force them to keep their special metal energy at bay, allowing for Multiple KOs, assuming you run two Shuckle. In this match up you need to hit FAST with one LvX while saving the other for its power. Tempo advantage is important because later on you’ll go about even with them when they are KOing your Shuckles. Rush the play, while still keeping and answer for their attacks handy.

*Other match ups will be written on demand*

You heard it here first from Team DRZ, Scorpio.

3-3-1 Gliscor would be better since it returns to your hand anyway after you Level it Up. Also 3-3-1 would be more consistent .

This deck has crazy potential, it's rocky right now, but once we get the hang of next format this deck can just smash through both Kingdra and AMU. Go DRZ!

This deck is maybe tier 3.

It's not that great.

And wrong forum.

The Pokemon line is too shaky. You tech for too much and I doubt you'll ever get everything out consistantly when you need it. Not to mention Stage 1 Lv.X's are horrible.

Since this was a full deck list, I moved this to the deck help section.

Good luck with the deck!

ok i play warp point or have metagross or regice out.

How are you so sure that he'll bring Gliscor back out after a Warp Point anyways? Metagross is also shaky and fat and probably won't see play because of AMU. Besides, theres THREE in the deck. He can easily just bring in another one and then what do you do?

Not to mention Stage 1 Lv.X's are horrible.

Leafeon's bad, right? So is Magmortar? And Vire? Man, that guys pretty bad too. Yeah. Stage 1 Level X's are really terrible, barring the fact that more than half of them are good amirite?

Say this when Gliscor becomes good because Kingdra can't do crap to AMU.

Good luck with this deck, Dustin/Austin, looks really good!

gliscor has water weakness. So you lose to KINGDRA

Haha! If Kingdra ever gets to attack Gliscor... =P

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Post spoiler please ...

Gliscor LV.42 – Fighting – HP80
Stage 1 – Evolves from Gligar

[.] Burning Poison: Choose either Poisoned or Burned, and the Defending Pokemon is now affected by that Special Condition. You may return Gliscor and all cards attached to it to your hand.
[F][C] Chase: 40 damage. If the Defending Pokemon is affected by a Special Condition, this attack does an additional 40 damage.

Weakness: Water (+20)
Resistance: Fighting (-20)
Retreat: 1

Gliscor LV.X - Fighting - HP110
Level-up

Poke-Power: Speed Poison
You can use this Power once, when you play this card from your hand to Level-up a Pokemon. 1 of the opponent's Active Pokemon is now Poisoned and Paralyzed.

[F][C] Night Slash: 60 damage. You may switch Gliscor with one of your Benched Pokemon.

Weakness: Water (x2)
Resistance: Fighting (-20)
Retreat: 0

Hmm.. I can;t seem to find Mr. Mime, but basically he has a Body that prevents him from being effected by attacks by pokemon with two or less energy attached.

To all who are sort of bashing this deck, I respect your opinions. But sometimes you have to think about how the deck is played. The goal is to never have Gliscor be damaged, which is which I claimed heavy bench damage would be my worst enemy.

Kingdra needs 3 energy to damage a Mr. Mime. Sure you can do 20 to a bench, but thats about the extent.

Shuckle is debatable currently, but can be great against anything with call or metal/darkness (Magnezone comes to mind)

Thanks to Bannete EX and Ace- for the ideas!

I don't know how it would be fit in since you're already running a tight ship with multiple evolutions, but Venomoth might be another Pokemon you switched out to with Gliscor to ensure that you would be able to do 80 again on your next turn even if they switched/evolved/were KOed etc..

I liked Gliscor and its Level X when I saw the translations a while ago too. I think you're right that good things can come from this line, just not in extremely obvious ways like with Kingdra. It's been a while since the hit-and-run thing was viable and I think with the options you have here it could amount to something.
