If that is so true, name one or a couple people that have accomplished as much or more in the Senate than Ted did. Yeah, didn't think so. Sad but true. All the other Senators just debate politics as usual - divided.
dmaster out.
Adolph Hitler accomplished much more than Ted Kennedy. He was even Time Magazine's "Man of the Year". Yes, Hitler was an awful, evil person, but that he accomplished
more cannot be disputed.
And then there is Senator Joseph R. McCarthy. He did many, many things, not the least of which includes incarcerating Americans that had a differing political affiliation (Communist Party, of which we now have 2 that represent us on the Senate Floor) and supported the rarely spoken of Japanese Internment Camps within the US during World War II.
Lets look at the
quality of what T.K. accomplished instead of the
quantity:
˚Although he was a staunch pro-choice advocate for the past 30 years, Kennedy adopted this position only after the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Prior to that, he held a pro-life position.
Flip-flopper to whatever the "in" popular opinion was.
˚Kennedy introduced and was a strong supporter of the 1965 Hart-Cellar Act– signed into law by President Lyndon B Johnson– which dramatically changed U.S. immigration policy. Quote T.K.- "The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs."
Ha, haha, hahaha! We have 56 million illegal aliens, taking 42 million jobs today. More Americans are out of work now than were out of work during The Great Depression! 42 million more jobs to go around would make a HUGE impact on the unemployment rate. Before you say "Lazy Americans wouldn't do those jobs anyway, you're so racist!", speak for yourselves. The jobs were filled before immigration got out of hand, and not by illegal aliens...
˚Kennedy was a staunch supporter of gun control initiatives. In 2006, he was one of the 16 senators who voted
against the Vitter Ammendment prohibiting the confiscation of legally possessed firearms during a disaster.
Ole Teddy was always all for stripping Americans of their Constitutional rights!
˚Kennedy generally favored alternative energy sources-
Very good! and opposed additional Alaska oil drilling.-
It was drilled decades ago and is pumping. It just isn't shipping, selling, or creating jobs. However, he opposed the Cape Wind wind turbine project which would occur near his home.-
Very hypocritcal!
˚In the 1970s, Kennedy joined with fellow senators Ernest Hollings and Henry M. Jackson in a press conference to
oppose President Gerald Ford's request that Congress end Richard Nixon's price controls on domestic oil-
Nice! Price fixing is a felony kiddos!
˚Kennedy became "notorious" in the 1970s for his support of desegregation busing, while his own children attended private schools.-
Was a racist, just didn't want to appear that way with how he voted.
˚Kennedy was outspoken in his views about Northern Ireland's constitutional question. In October 1971, he called for the withdrawal of British troops from Northern Ireland, and for all political participants there to begin talks on creating a United Ireland. In early 2005, however, Kennedy publicly snubbed Gerry Adams by canceling a previously arranged meeting, citing the Provisional IRAs "ongoing criminal activity and contempt for the rule of law."-
Amazing how a little political greasing of the palms by a political ally can make it ok for said ally to oppress those you used to support.
˚Kennedy was a longtime advocate of raising the minimum wage. He helped pass the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, which incrementally raises the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 over a two year period. The bill also included some controversial tax cuts for small businesses and higher taxes for many $1 million-plus executives. Kennedy was quoted as saying, "Passing this wage hike represents a small, but necessary step to help lift America's working poor out of the ditches of poverty and onto the road toward economic prosperity"-
This actually has quite the opposite effect. It increases inflation while downsizing takes place to compensate for the extra taxes Big Business is forced to pay. But, it looks good on paper, so why take the time to explain to your constituents why it is so wrong.
˚Kennedy believed that health care coverage was a fundamental right for all individuals.-
But only after he saw it get Obama elected to office! Until then, he voted with his special interest Insurance Companies best interests in mind.
