Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Platinum - Arceus: Zapdos [G], Toxicroak, and Gengar LV X Revealed!

Gengar Lv X is over rated and puts shame to some Gengar players such as myself to shame...

Why?

It takes 1 space in your Gengar slot, which I find to harshly hurt the deck, I always play all 4 Gengars most games excluding Pokemon Rescue and NM.
Sure the power is good, but it's flippy, you already have Fainting Spell (And Poke Blower/SSU if you play them).
All though I love the attack.

I will be giving it a 2nd chance when released...

Gengar looks like he is chargin a shadow ball.

Gengar X is quite broken. And, above poster. How is the lv.Xs power flippy? Re read the card much? Gengar lv.x will only be played, IMO, in something that is not pure gengar, something like gengar-gallade 4. or gengar-spreading card.

Lol. Oh wow. Gengar still lives after Flygons 150 base level X murder attack. This is rediculous... 140HP? Lol 130HP wasn't even an option when they created this beast. Oh gosh mother gengar will be playable for another year or two now...

Anyone notice a combo here? You can use Omastar + Gengar lv X + Looker's Investigation in tandem to send away ANY evolved pokemon into your opponent's deck. Because Omastar's power is negated by lv X's, Gengar works perfectly. It also helps that the new Gengar/lv X spread, and if you are worried about Nidoqueen, she won't affect you all that much with Looker's + Omastar, sending them back to Nidorina/Nidoran. This deck looks to be unstoppable atm.

BTW, I presume the intelligent users of Gengar will run 1 Stormfront(a tech if anything, to snipe Claydol's and use Poltergeist when you aren't devolving their bench), 2 Arceus Gengar and 1 Arceus Gengar lv X. There will still be speed Gar's with 4 Stormfront(who won't have much use for this lv X), but this just opens up Gengar to more consistent and less Fainting Spell reliant decks.

Man another broken Gengar, that stinks.

A lot of decks will be torn apart by that card. At least thats one less fainting spell I have to flip for.

(Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon)

I was kidding, it doesn't matter. However, Fainting Spell can still be the death to Flygon Lv.X. LOL. It at least isn't a guaranteed death on both sides in the sense that Flygon might or might not survive.

Actually, Flygon Lv.X likes it that Gengar Lv.X survives Extreme Attack because that makes it easy for Flygon decks to avoid Fainting Spell. Extreme Attack and SW Flygon below the Lv.X = instant kill w/o Fainting Spell. If they have Nidoqueen you need Expert Uxie and one more turn, but that's not that difficult either. Unfortunally, there are very few decks that still can avoid Fainting Spell so easily.

Zapdos is OK and a good killer if it you go first. Toxicroak is also good and can be versatile.
I do not like the Gengar at all. Normally my strategy against Gengar (with my trustworthy GG/Weavile) is to Dark Palm Nidoqueen, Dark Engage with one special Darkness energy, and then do 100 with Psychic Lock. Next turn, drop Crobat G to KO while avoiding Fainting Spell. Now playing around Gengar will be a lot more difficult. I am very disappointed because my metagame is Mother Gengar dominated.
Aside from that, Level Down can be disruptive (like Leveling Down Palkia Lv. X or Flygon Lv. X, or against an AMU deck) and Compounding Pain...that can be good after a few Shadow Rooms but hard to use because of the speed. Mother Gengar should charge up Ruthless Tail on Nidoqueen most of the time.

Please play Gengar? PLEASE...

Haha Gengar is soooooo overhyped. Gengar ought to be played with the new one if you are going to play the Lv.X, it allows for better spread, no need for Fainting Spell
