Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Unreleased figures or fakes

Well, since I'm the winner of these from the ebay auction, I'll let you know what I think after I get them!

i saw some 'unreleased figures' a while back in a post on the pkmncollectors LJ comm; i think the consensus was that they were fakes.

Here's a picture on the go-Pokemon site from the GAMA show:

It shows one of these figures among the "upcoming set 3" figures, the Snorlax.

The article is no longer accessible, but the picture is.

To add to moms comment I think the pkmncollectors community has seen/bought at least 2-3 sets of these.
People were unsure at first because of the Snorlax at first.

I'll ask around the community for any more info.

Edit: Just asked in the community chat room and everyone has said the ones they have look and feel 100% legit and have no errors at all, however they all seem to think they are bootlegs.

Oh what basis, though?
It seems to me that if at least a test run was made, and then Pokemon dropped the TFG, those test run figures might find their way onto the market.

If someone was making bootlegs, wouldn't it make more sense for them to make copies of existing ones?

After all, it actually takes some fair amount of work to design these things from scratch.

I'm not exactly sure on what basis.

I've seen alot of photos of them and if they are bootlegs they are some of the best I've ever seen of anything.

I would possibly have said they were test ones (the only weird part being that quite a few sets have hit the market) but I haven't seen them in person so I just asked some people who own them.

I'll post here if I get anymore info from people.

if you notice the GAMA show snorlax has a black base and the other one has a white base.

I don't know if that means if it is fake or not, but since snorlax is the only pokemon to be shown in both pictures that is the only thing I can get off of it.

Fake figurines/ pokemon items in general are poorly made and the pokemon look defected, in this case the actual figure looks the same.

See what type of packaging you get and that should be a sign if it is fake or not.

Just asked around the comm and the general price people seemed to be getting them for were around $20 for the set of 8.

The cheap price may have contributed to people thinking that they were bootleg since you would imagine official unreleased figures costing alot more.

Each one has a collection number of XX/42 on the base so at least they are consistant with each other for that.

I'll look them over when I receive them and see what I think.
It doesn't sound like their reasons for calling them bootleg are good.

Does anyone have an estimate for how many are being sold, at this point?

They are unfortunately, fakes. Chinese bootleggers/reject sellers stole the molds from the factory (at least, that's the general thing going around Pkmncollectors) and are making them then selling them in bundles on eBay. While they do seem to be made well, the painting is off in areas, and the the molds themselves are not consistent - the face shapes of two Pikachu figures a friend of mine bought from the seller are completely different.

It's a shame though, since I love the TFG and would have loved to see an official release of these.

On what basis, though, has it been determined that bootleggers stole the molds?
What is "going around" is not sufficient.
At least a claim to have spoken to someone in a position to know.
This seems more like speculation.

Anyone got any contacts with anyone involved in the design how may be able to confirm/deny that the figures other than Snorlax were planned for release and went far enough in the design to have either molds or prototypes made?

Sounds like we won't be able to get an official answer without contacting someone like that.

PokePop, any chance you'd be willing to part with them after you are finished examining them? I'd rather not support the Hong Kong sellers, despite my interest, and if you might want to part with them i'm interested. Although, I assume part of your examinations is for PCI?
