No Kadabra in Current Modified?

Am I seeing this correctly that there is no Kadabra in the current modified card list? Thereby making the only way to get from Abra to Alakazam is to Rare Candy or use Abra's Ultra Evolution attack?

Or am I missing something?

In November 2000, Geller sued video game company Nintendo for £60 million (the equivalent of US $100 million) over the Pokémon character "Yungerer," localized in English as "Kadabra," which he claimed was an unauthorised appropriation of his identity. The Pokémon in question has psychic abilities and carries bent spoons. Geller also claimed that the star on Kadabra's forehead and the lightning patterns on its abdomen are symbolisms popular with the Waffen SS of Nazi Germany. The katakana for the character's name, ユンゲラー, is visually similar to the transliteration of Geller's own name into Japanese (ユリゲラー). He is quoted as saying: "Nintendo turned me into an evil, occult Pokémon character. Nintendo stole my identity by using my name and my signature image."

The lawsuit was thrown out of court. Despite this, there has not been a Kadabra card in the Trading Card Game since Skyridge in 2003.

That's so strange. He lost the court case but still they've not printed any Kadabra since that time... What are they afraid of?

Being sued again?

Lawsuits are expensive, even if you eventually win them, so being sued is kind of a lose-lose situation rather than a win-lose one.

Yeah, it's really stupid. Alakazam is really good, but it sees very little play because there is no kadabra.
And the guy who sued is just stupid and wanted money.

I dunno about in Japan but in the US "abra, kadabra, alakazam" are just popular words that magicians often use when doing tricks. they aren't any fancy names or anything.

And Alakazam's power is just stupid good, and would really be a lot better with Kadabra.
And they should have made abras attack cost 1 colorless less. I mean 1 psychic to evolve him into Alakazam is the least they could do if they aren't gonna print Kadabra.

Anyway, I just think people need to get over themselves and stop being so greedy.
BUT, I am not surprised Pokemon stopped printing Kadabras, any more major lawsuits can't be good for the company.

Thanks for the story, Goshmigidy. That one was almost as good as the controversy over the "swastika" that appeared in the Japanese version of "Koga's Ninja Trick".

Actually the problem Ungeller had was "DARK Kadabra". Double whammy! Because the Japanese version was actually called "Evil Urgeller"... oops

Hello, my name is Pikacho, and I have a problem with this Pikachu guy giving me a bad name. Shootin' people with lightning an' such. One hundred million dollars, please.

Maybe they aren't printing any more Kadabras because they DID model it after him and knew they were wrong. Just not wrong enough to hand over one hundred million dollars.

It's not exactly the same thing.
Kadabra (and Alakazam) hold spoons specifically because Geller bends spoons in his act.
The character is named after him (in Japan).
They made an "evil" version.

I can understand his position.

The strange thing is that they named a Pokémon after him in the first place.

He's an absolute moron and a fraud, and wholly irrelivant in all respects. This coming from someone who knows him on a semi-personal level. I don't believe he's particular well known, if at all, in the United States, but I'm sure the majority of British members on here would agree with me. The guy's pathetic.

Way to drop the backstory and clear things up.

Another useful interjection. Thanks

i find that the guy was money/fame hungry after not being able to do much after the 70's. being able to bend spoons with your mind is just a stage trick and hasn't been proven to be done in actuality. He does stage tricks, however, in pokemon they can do it irl(well their fictional real world).

Also, Geller wasn't the only one to do spoon bending as an act there were several other "magicians" who did this stunt and we don't see any of them trying to pull a fast one. If they were such a trademark thing, why wasn't there anything like this when the Matrix came out? Don't say it's because it was giving him a bad name. He doesn't really have one to begin with. The generation the name was being used on was way after his time and hadn't a clue of his existence on this earth let alone it giving him a bad name. This guy was going in with shenanigans and lost cause. If that's the case, just about every famous celebrity has the right to sue all and every show that has ever spoofed/parodied/mocked such as South Park or Family Guy, etc...
The fact that Nintendo is avoiding Kadabra prints because of this lame guy is beyond me, Kadabra is a copyrighted Character of Nintendo therefore proving of its originality, they shouldn't have anything to be afraid of...

What I don't understand is why they don't in the new set ( Im not talking card sets like regions and such) of Pokemon introduce a new stage 1 or something . There can still be Kadabra by why not another that evolves into alakazam as well. A perfect fix in my opinon

They aren't making Kadabras because they based it off of Uri. They might of settled it out of court or something with certain conditions as no more cards.

Did you miss that Kadabra's Japanese name is almost exactly the same as Geller's?
