What is Redshark?
Redshark is a free computer application that allows you to play the Pokemon TCG on your computer. Nothing compares to real-life experience, but RedShark can be a great way for players to practice the game when decks are incomplete or when friends are out of reach.
Basically, RedShark gives you a TABLETOP that can be seen by both players.
Redshark is not an automated program that makes moves for you.
As in real-life play, you and your opponent will need to make your own moves, follow the rules, call your attacks, and computer your own damage.
Playing fair is the responsibility of the players. Mistakes and cheating can occur, just like in real life, so it is each player’s responsibility to insure the game is played correctly as in real life.
Redshark has the ability to create decks and play the game in a one-player solitaire mode or against an opponent over a network. It can also be played in a two-deck solitaire mode, allowing a person to use two decks to practice against themselves.
RedShark is a fan-made program and is not endorsed by or affiliated with Pokemon USA, Nintendo, or any official Pokemon company.
SETTING UP YOUR COMPUTER TO PLAY POKEMON TCG ONLINE
How to connect to and play the Pokemon TCG online using Hamachi and RedShark
There are two seperate programs that you will need: RedShark and Hamachi
RedShark will provide a virtual table top to play the Pokemon TCG.
The other program (Hamachi) is just a program that provides a connection between you and your opponent so you can both view the same "table."
Step 1: Install RedShark - click here
This program is a privatly developed software program that is an offshoot of the "APPRENTICE" client that is used by Magic the Gathering players. The creator of Redshark wanted to develop a similar program for the Pokemon TCG.
The creator of RedShark can be found on a great website called "PokeBeach." He makes himself available to answer questions and regularly updates the program to work out it's glitches.
TO START REDSHARK: Always RIGHT-CLICK the icon and select "Run As Administrator" if you're using anything newer than Windows XP. This will allow you to build, edit, and save your decks.
You can build, test, and play your decks on your computer with OR without an internet connection!
It's really a fantastic way to practice against people around the globe!

STEP 2: Install Hamachi - Click Here
You're going to need to install Hamachi in order to play against others online.
The page looks a little too corporate and intimidating. Don't worry, the program is great and the people there are very nice. They'll give you free email support for the free version!
Agree to the terms (checkbox) and choose "Unmanaged"
After you install the program, you'll need to join a Hamachi Network or create your own and invite others to join.
Go to our HAMACHI NETWORK LISTS thread to find networks to join or create your own network and post the ID and Password there!

NOTE: You NEVER need to change the Port # for Hamachi OR RedShark!
Once you are in "New Game" select mode 3 or 4 depending on who is hosting and who is calling a host.
Enter your deck in the area below the mode you choose.
After all of this, click "start" to begin connecting to your opponent.
You will use the "CHAT" function in Hamachi to speak to each other and coordinate starting games.

A STEP-BY-STEP WALKTHROUGH OF PLAYING A REDSHARK MATCH
STEP 1: START THE REDSHARK PROGRAM
Always RIGHT-CLICK the icon and select "Run As Administrator" if you're using anything newer than Windows XP. This will allow you to build, edit, and save your decks.
Note: You may get an "ALLOW" pop up. Just hit allow and play on. I've NEVER experienced any hacking/virus issues as a result of using RedShark or Hamachi. You're safe.
STEP 2: TABLE SHARING - connecting to someone through RedShark.
You'll use the Hamachi program to join networks where potential opponents are sitting around waiting for a game (or are already playing someone else).
Right-click on someone's name (on the Hamachi Network List) and choose "chat"
A small chatbox will appear with the opponents screenname displayed at the top.
Simply type "GAME?" and they'll let you know if they can play.
Usually, the respone is something like "Sure. Who Host?"
What does this host/guest stuff mean?
Well, one person needs to "wait for a guest" and the other person needs to "call a host."
This means that one of you has to select "HOST" mode while the other selects "GUEST" mode.
The person who "calls a host" needs to enter in the host's IP# in preferences.
To find your IP#, just open up Hamachi and create a network.
Once you have a network, look at the numbers on the top of the Hamachi screen; they should look something like: 12.34.567.890
Enter that number into the "Host IP" under: preferences - network connection
Once you have the Host's IP entered into your "host IP box" you both need to go to "New Game."
Once you are in "New Game" select mode 3 or 4 depending on who is hosting and who is calling a host.
Enter your deck in the area below the mode you choose.
After all of this, click "start" to begin connecting to your opponent.
You will use the "CHAT" function in Hamachi to speak to each other and coordinate starting games.
STEP 3: STARTING YOUR MATCH
TIP: When in doubt, RIGHT-CLICK! Right-click options can get you just about anything you need in RedShark!
You will, probably, hear a 'ding' sound and see a bunch of cards appear on your RedShark screen.
On the left, you'll see your starting 7 cards. On the right, you'll see and empty table space.
You will note that your prizes will automatically be placed to the far right of the table for you!

Installing and Launching Redshark on Windows
- Download the Redshark program installer from above, preferably to your Desktop.
- Once your download has finished, run the installer program.
- If Upgrading: You will need to uninstall any previous versions of Redshark to install the latest version. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel, click “Add or Remove” programs, then find and uninstall any Redshark listings (your deck files will be saved).
- The Redshark installer window will open. Click the “Finish” button to install the program to the “C:redshark” folder.
- If this is your first time installing Redshark, you will be prompted to create a new Redshark directory in your Program Files. Click “Yes” when the installer prompts you to do so.
- Click “OK” once the installation has finished.
- Launch Redshark from the Programs Files list in the Start menu (Start -> Programs -> Redshark -> Redshark). For easier access in the future, right-click the Redshark program listing, click “Send to,” then click “Desktop (create a shortcut).” This will allow you to access the program from your Desktop.
Installing and Launching Redshark on Macintosh
- Download the Redshark program installer from above, preferably to your Desktop.
- If you have a previous version of Redshark in your Applications Folder AND you want to keep your decks that you already made, then you must move or rename the previous Redshark application before proceeding to Step 3. If you do not move or rename the existing Redshark application, you may lose all of the Redshark decks that you have created.
- Simply drag the NEW redshark.app application to your Applications folder, replacing the previous one, if prompted.
- Double-click redshark.app to launch the program. If you want to save your old deck files, you MUST start the program before going on to Step 5. Starting Redshark will attempt to create a “redshark” sub-folder in the “Documents” folder, in which to save and load Redshark deck files.
[*]Wherever you moved your previous copy of Redshark, right click on it and select “Show Package Contents” from the popup menu.
[*]From the Finder window that opens, open the “Contents” folder, and then the “MacOS” folder within that.
[*]Inside the “MacOS” folder, you should see your deck files. Leave this Finder window open for now.
[*]Now open your Documents folder. Within that, you should see a Redshark folder.
[*]You should now be able to use drag-and-drop to move/copy your old deck files into the “Documents/redshark” folder, where the new Redshark program will find them.
[*]NOTE: Newer Mac versions of Redshark will automatically save your previous decks.

To place any card on the table face-up, you only need to drag it onto the table top :smile:

Doing common tasks:
Coin Toss: Click on the little coin icon that's to the right of your deck.
MULLIGAN!: If you have no starting basic, the program has an automated function that will shuffle your hand and prizes back into the deck and redeal your starting hand and new prizes! Simply click on "Player A" (or Player B if you are the guest) and select "Restart (no basics)"
Card Info: Mouse-over any card to read it's info (attacks, HP, PokeBodies, PokePowers, Set# and set)
Starting Your Turn: The buttons to start and end your turn are above and below the STADIUM box. When you click the start button, the program will automatically draw a card into your hand from your deck!
Drawing a Card: Click on the tiny hand/card icon to the right of the coin icon.
Drawing multiple cards: Right-click your deck and select "Draw N Cards"
Trainers/Supporters: There's a "T" icon just above the coin icon. If you click it, you will get a list of trainer/supporters. If you select one, RedShark will automate part of the function for you. For example: If you select copycat, your hand will be autoshuffled into your deck and you will have the same number of cards as your opponent!!
Calling Powers: Click on the card that has the PokePower and double-click the name of the PokePower in the big white box to the far right of your screen. (or you can just type it into the chat box manually)

Placing Damage: Click on the card receiving the damage and add the appropriate amount using the big white box to the far right of your screen.
