I was chatting with kwisdumb about the best collectors, and who we thought had the most impressive collections. I realise that this is alot more subjective than, for example, the best players.
Anyway, I decided to make a post to see everyone views on the best collections.
I made a couple of rules for myself before making my list:
1- Collections must be current, if they have stopped collecting/sold everything, they don't count.
This ruled out people like Will-iam and PRGuitarman.
2- I won't include sellers. Alot of people have impressive collections but just with the intention of selling them. This would rule out people like Avmozz, brian_japan, promo_sen, ebirdman etc.
3- Unlike tournament placings, people's collections only come to light if they choose to reveal them, so if I miss you off the list and you have an impressive collection, it just means that I don't know what you have, and no offense was intended.
4- Quality over quantity.
Also, if you are going to post, please include reasons why the collections are impressive so the thread isn't locked as a poll. I'm gonna do a Top 10 list in reverse order, set your out how you will.
#10- Me
Urg, I really didn't want to put myself on a list like this because it sounds kinda big headed, but the convo between me and Kenny was to decide where I would rank on a list like this.
So yeah.
I guess I have a fairly decent collection, but I've only been collecting for a couple of years, and hopefully it will get better.
Best cards:
700pt Get Porygon
Victory Ring
#9- Waynegg
Wayne has one of the most impressive English collections out there. He is only missing the Top Cut and trophy cards from Worlds, plus a very small handful of cards from sets and Stamped Promos.
As you can see on his trade thread, he is slowly filling in all the gaps in his collection.
Best cards:
Sample Set
Trainer decks A & B
#8- PokePop
Now, I'm not sure of exactly what Pop has in his collection, he may well deserve to be higher up the list. But I do know that he has an impressive collection of misprints, errors and I even heard that a Prerelease Raichu passed through his hands (if he still has it, he definatly needs to be higher up the list).
Best cards:
Nearly all misprints
Lots of JPN promos (from what I've been told)
#7- Jason
Jason has almost all (if not all) Mew cards released plus lots of other cool cards, including a Mysterious Pearl which he managed to pick up at Worlds. He has also almost finished all English sets.
Best cards:
Victory Orb w/ Mew
Mysterious Pearl
#6- Dogma
Dogma's collection boasts alot of rare Japanese stuff, including all promos and half decks released for movies, 3 sealed vending series, Jumbo, Pal Citys, Lucky Stadiums, Victory Medals and Fan Club cards. Like me, he lives in the UK.
Best cards:
Mysterious Pearl
500 Pt Get Eevee and 700 Pt Get Porygon
#5- Callyfin/viper.fox
Cally runs collectorviper.com which showcases her own collection and brings news of new TCG items which will be coming out soon. She's also the only female on my list. She has near full sets of all JPN sets, and huge amounts of promos, including almost all half decks.
Best cards:
Vicotry Ring w/ Pikachu
Complete Player's Club set
#4- Sandman
Now, I haven't heard from Sandman in a while but I'm pretty sure he's still collecing. I also know that he had alot of impressive cards last time he was in the collectors thread, including a TMB trophy cards (I think third place). Hopefully he'll come back to the collectors thread soon to let us know about any additions to his collections.
Best cards:
TMB Trophy Card
Kamex Computer Error
#3- DPersin
The best English card collection ever belongs to Mr Persin. He has almost every English card ever, including multiple Worlds trophy cards, Prerelease Raichu, all Top Cut promos and all varients including errors. The only thing keeping him out of my top 2 is the fact that he doesn't collect Japanese cards.
Best cards:
Prerelease Raichu
Worlds Number 1 Trainer's 2005-2010
#2- Squirtle/the_sniper
One of the best collections ever is owned by the Silvestros, it includes a 1999 trophy card set, an Illustrator, TMB and SSB Number 1s and many more. They are very close with my #1 choice, but I put these guys second simply because they are currently taking offers on the Illustrator with the intention of selling.
Best cards:
Illustrator
1999 Number 1, 2 and 3
#1- Smpratte
Scott has an insanely good collection. He is the only collector in the World to own a 1997 Number 1 trophy, since only 2 exist and the other is up for sale on Collectors Cache. In addition to this he has a 1997 Number 3 Trainer, SSB Number 1, 2 and 3, 2009 Number 2 and 3, both Victory Rings and Victory Orbs, Sample set and huge huge amounts of other cards, which makes his collection the most impressive to me.
Best cards:
1997 Number 1 and 3
SSB Number 1, 2 and 3
So, thoughts? Got a list of your own?
