Rainbow energy HGSS card

I just started back into the TCG so still learning. I am making my deck and it says the HGSS rainbow energy is legal in modified format. I have been looking through the deck help thread yet I see no one taking advantage of it. Is this card not allowed and the legal list I am looking at expired or do people just not like to use it? Need to know so when I make my deck I know whether or not to leave it out or not, thanks for any help

its legal but most decks dont use more than 1 type of basic energy well except luxchomp

that is true and with the many ways to get other basic energy cards I can see why they would leave it out especially since you have to add a damage counter on to your pokemon when you attach it (and I just saw this on the description which makes me not want to use it either lol) I am just going to exchange it for more of my main types energy. Thanks :)

In SP decks Rainbow energy is also not searchable because of Cyrus Conspirancy and not retrievable from the discard pile by Aaron's Collection or Palmer's Contribution.

As mentioned above me, Rainbow Energy is not searchable, and so that limits its playability. Also, SP decks that use more than one type of energy have ways of searching for it (Cyrus's Conspiracy) and other decks that use multiple types of energy have ways of getting them (Regigigas.) So with plenty of energy searching consistency, Rainbow Energy isn't really needed, and that single damage counter can come back to hurt.

Yeah I didn't think about th fact you can not search for it because it is not a basic. On top of that I completely overlooked the add 1 damage counter the first time while reading it, which that definitely can come back to hurt especially when its not necessary. But luckily I have most of my deck figured out ($180 later -_-) but still have a few cards that I need to work on getting they just happen to be those very expense lv x cards lol

It can be used though in decks which run two different energy types and few of them (see Kingdra/Machamp and Machamp/Gengar, although both decks are pretty much dead now).

Why would you use rainbow for SP when there is SP Energy RR?

Most attacking techs are SP too.

I don't know if you are asking me or not but I don't have an SP deck. Only reason I thought about using it is because it could cover more than one type of energy but after realizing you can't search for it and you receive one damage counter when you attach it I left it out
