Ehh....
I hate this card,so it's gonna be kind of hard for me not to be biased.

Good hp, pretty good typing, bad weakness, good resistence and bad retreat.Bad attacks, but made up for by the pokebody

6.5/10

Today's COTD is Charizard Arceus001. Let's start with the basics. :fire: type isn't great at the moment, 140HP is good, HORRID Weakness, great resistance, and, wait, THREE retreat on a Charizard? It can fly!!!
Alright, now to the Poke-Body, Fire Formation. It lets you deal 10 more damage for each :fire: Pokemon on your bench. Sounds good, but considering the techs most decks run, Like Uxie (LA), you won't have much space left for your precious damage increaser. Its first attack, Fire Wing does a vanilla 30 damage for a single :fire: energy. Obviously, the designers were thinking you had 5 bench slots for fire Pokemon, and forgot about techs. Charizard's other attack, Burning Tail, does 80 for :fire::fire::colorless:, and makes you discard an energy attached to Charizard. The downside is payable, but I think other attacks are better, especially including the cost (90 damage doesn't justify it EITHER). Any upsides to this card?? Hmmmm..... Resistance to Donphan?

Modified: 4/10- There are better alternatives.
Limited: 4/10- Good luck getting THIS thing out.

FANTASTIC card if you using a charizard deck and are a beginner player.

A charizard, typhlosion, ninetales build got me started in pokemon tcg a few months ago and i LOVED it. Problem is I progessed as a player I found this card and the deck to be less and less reliable when battling top tier decks such as vilegar, gdos etc. For those reasons I gave up playing it and began running Vilegar. This card holds great memories for me and I had sooooo much fun with it.

Against none tier decks this card has proven to be a beast. Id give it a ...

This card is something special since it is the first Charizard that's somewhat competitive. It's Poké-Body is great, but to take full use of it, you're very restricted in your deck building cause you need mainly fire Pokémon. Up to 80 damage for 1 and up to 130 for 3 energy, combined with its high HP, make it a both fast and heavy hiter. To take continuous use of the second attack, you'll probably need Typhlosion or some other energy support.

Weakness to water can be a huge problem when facing Gyarados, but on the other side, it makes Charizard effective against most SP decks which don't run water. Resistance to fighting is good for Machamp, Donphan and a few other attackers. 3 retreat is high and can hurt, but with Typhlosion support and a few Warp Points, you can deal with it.

Modified: 7/10

The card itself is probably better, but as long as Gyarados is around that much, Charizard has a problem. A decent Dialgachomp player can play around this in a realiable way as well. Vilegar isn't the best matchup with all the powers and a good amount of trainers in most Charizard decks. However, it can do well against Luxchomp, and with the right techs get good chances against most other decks (excluding Gyarados:frown:).

bess card of the ages has it nich and art is excellent
did anyone else notice Charizard as well as its pre evolved forms are smiling and in step
Aesthetics are the hype and the low cost together with Ninetales and Typy cant make an opponent squirm

i think this card should see more game play then it does its attacks arent the best but reasonable energy costs techd with ninetales hgss and typlo prime this card works wonders in the right hands

Today's CotD is Charizard from AR, another blast from the past we reviewed 2 years ago: http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=113291&highlight=palkia

Well, unfortunately he never did pan out into that great of a deck, mainly because the SP sets were kept intact which allowed the super fast format we have now; I still say had they disappeared or been broken up, Charizard would have emerged as one of the better "slow" decks to play since he had a great support element with Ninetales. Oh well...not much to change besides the ratings:

Modified - 7/10 (Still an effective fun deck that can be competitive, but at the higher levels speed issues will kill it)
Limited - 8/10 (Main con is that it's a Stage 2, however if you can get it out with a bench full of :fire: Pokemon, you have yourself a huge powerhouse)
Unlimited - 1/10 (Too long to set up, can hit cheap and hard, but so can many other things faster)

This Charizard is really good, but is still not tier 1. Yet

Next format, however, he WILL be tier one (well, actually maybe not if we do get hgss on, but rr-on is my guess). I'd advise someone to start building the deck now, as the prices will go up

This format-7/10
Next format (if RR-On):9/10

Dialgachomp, Gyarados, and Kingdra Prime really kept this in check. We still have the first two now so still not a good play. It doesn't even knock out an SP level X until it gets 3 energies on it. Not being able to have many non-fire basics on the bench is just bad. Ninetails is unreliable draw too.

Even in RR on he'll have issues with speed. Reshiram will be much faster.

They never specified which Charizard gets the fire boost <.< loop hole :3
Use rare candies and such to speed his evo-chain, and throw in your other pkmn with a collector and bam, full house fast :p
...but then again I like Charizard :p

great card. only downside is g-dos runs him over. and his partners(typhlosion prime, ninetales HS) can be mesprit bind. could be a great deck in a rr-on format. 7/10
