Registration for Round 1 opens at 8:00 am and closes at 8:45 am

The State Championship player's meeting begins at 9:00 am sharp!!!

How to Sign-Up and Play
Arrive onsite no later than ½ hour before the tournament start time. Thank you.

A Registration Slip is required to be entered into the event! We need it ASAP after you arrive. Slips turned in past 8:45 am will NOT make Round 1 of the Championships!

Please allow enough time to fill out your decklist prior to Registration closing — download it now, fill it out, and bring it with you! The top 8 finishers in each of the three age categories receive the following prizes:

1st Place

• A Pokémon TCG State Champion Medal
• A $300 travel allowance to participate in the Pokémon TCG National Championships (US & Canada); this allowance will be given on-site at the National Championships)*
• A first round bye at the National Championships
• 36 booster packs from current Pokémon TCG expansions
• Pokémon POP Playmat

2nd Place

• A Pokémon TCG State 2nd Place Medal
• 16 booster packs from current Pokémon TCG expansions

3rd - 4th Place

• A Pokémon TCG State 3rd/4th Place Medal

• 4 booster packs from current Pokémon TCG expansions

* Players can win multiple travel stipends. Travel stipends must be collected by the winner of record.

Additionally, participants will receive a Pokémon TCG 2011 State Championship promo card, while supplies last, just for playing! We will also have random prize drawings throughout the day for playmats, beach balls, binders, and pencils—everyone walks away a winner (either with a cool prize or just having lots of fun)!

Side Events
4-player "Draft-in-a-Box" booster drafts will be offered throughout the day and will consist of single-elimination rounds—$25 entry fee; prizes = 4 boosters for 1st, 2 boosters for 2nd, and 1 booster for 3rd-4th.

4-player constructed tournaments will be available and will consist of single-elimination rounds—$5 entry fee; prizes = 4 boosters for 1st, 2 boosters for 2nd, and 1 booster for 3rd-4th.

Team side events will be offered as interest warrants. Pricing and prizes presented onsite.

Tournament Structure
Age-Modified Swiss (1 game matches), with Top 2-16 single elimination (best 2 of 3 games) in each age group.

I must say that the judging staff at this event was quite poor. specificly in the SENIOR and junior divisions. , there is to much leanancy towards cheating. we all know that organized play is done under spirit of the game, and that we are all there to have fun. yet I cannot understand how the judging staff of this event let repeated cheaters off the hook so easily. organized play is supposed to promote the younger players to want to play the pokemon tcg more. instead this event has done just the opposite. it has driven children away from playing in any sort of sanctioned event. especially any done under the same judge that the senior division had. we all understand that it is not always possible to prove that the other child is cheating, yet spectating children's games by third parties (family members) is not allowed due to the possibility of the spectator giving "advice" to a player. this just promotes even more cheating. now the cheater can continue to cheat as there is no third party input to prove the cheating. if I as a guardain of my child am not allowed to view his games, then how much fun is this game really promoting??children cannot enjoy the pokemon tcg due to cheaters and neglegance by the officiating staff. I hope for the sake of the children that the officiating staff for senior and junior divisions at regionals will be of top quality. otherwise the pokemon tcg will continue to lose the future players of the master division.........

deleg8zero, it's pretty easy to make blatent and generic accusations with little detail.

From your post its hard to tell what exactly you're complaining about.....either allowing third party viewers or disallowing third party views......

Either way there are problems with both sides. Personally, if I were still in jr or sr and my oppoent had their parent standing over their sholder during the game I wouldn't like it one bit.
 
Great event as always. Fantastic timing and good judging staff. Deleg, be a little bit more specific and try to take it to private. In the juniors finals game, the head judge was trying to push the parent away, but he would not move >.< She should have called over Josh, so yeah... that was a pretty bad error. If you notice, though, half of the Juniors got a game loss for having old cards >.< The parent had no place being there and should have moved. Otherwise, I saw little unpunished suspicious behavior.

There should be no leniency for cheating. I assume that this tournament ground to a halt when someone was caught cheating, and then cheated again.

The penalty guidelines are very clear about the disposition of cheating violations. Cheating it is among the most vile insults to the game itself, and to charge that the event had more than one multiple act cheater - "repeated cheaters" - is enormously alarming. You used the word cheat, cheater or chatting six times in your post, so I am quite certain you have everyone everyone's undivided attention now.

Parents can not hover over their children's games, period. Parents at games leads to more interference and cheating, unintentionally no doubt, than their absence. It is not the parent's responsibility to maintain game state, it is the responsibility of the players to do so.

Players can and should call a judge when there is a misplay, and certainly when cheating is suspected.

Occasionally parents, hearing one side of a game issue, slightly misdescribed or misunderstood, leap to defend their children from cheating. As often as not, when a judge sits down with the players and parent(s), it turns out to be a tempest in a teapot, the powerfully serious charge of cheating is unfounded and the accusing parent's child is merely unaware of a new rule, or the game is played differently at home with brothers and sisters than in a rule restricted tournament.

There are times, and this may be one of them, where the charge of cheating, multiple repeated acts of cheating, by cheaters, multiple cheaters, may be warranted. It sounds like a lawless band of cheating Juniors and Seniors have taken over Sin City. If I seem unsupportive, I am sorry, because I wholly support ferreting out the game's cheaters and getting them booted from tournaments. My son was victimized by a cheater, who I believe was taught to cheat by an older relative, at a World's championship years ago.

My son was (rightly) given a game loss, but the rules changed the next year to prevent the type of cheating my son fell prey to. Further, the rules abusing skater on the edge of cheating player will always be looked at with extra attention.

It is hard when it is your child who is getting cheated, but as you noted sometimes the judges are powerless to prove cheating or unable to catch it. Proving intent as opposed to mistake can also be difficult. My son reached his hand across the table to congratulate a cheater on a good game win, and he meant it without reservation.

I consider the judge who directed the game loss for my son to be a friend, and a few years later I had to uphold a game loss for his son as a judge for a similar inability to prove intent when an issue arose. His son was as classy and gracious in accepting his loss, a loss that had to irk him, as my son years before.

This game allows our children to grow as better people, full of good sportsmanship. To overlook the positive, by focusing so completely on a negative, is to miss much of what remains unassailably good in our game.

I have had spectators from the sidelines and players from neighboring games call a judge when they noticed a misplay, and their help has led to saving games from entering into irreparable broken states, and I as a judge am grateful for the heads up.

As you have made the charge that there were cheating cheaters cheating, I hope that you brought each instance of cheating to the attention of the judge you are leveling most of your ire at, as it happened, so that games were not allowed to be stolen. I hope you appealed to the head judge and spoke to the (P)TO. If you were unaware until after game slips were signed, I hope you brought up each instance as soon as practical, before the next game started. By bringing up each instance as specifically as possible, you allow the judges to redirect their attention to a greater disproportional degree where it may be needed to eliminate errors or identify cheaters.

You level a lot of displeasure at the judges and official generally, but one receives most of the brunt of your accusations of ineptness, collusion, and leniency. I expect that you appealed each of that judge's decisions to the head judge, or brought your concerns to the head judge as it happened so it could be dealt with.

I pray that your parental concern has lead to an overzealous freedom with your accusations, and that in the light of day and with more communication between you and the head judge Hatter, this is handled to the satisfaction of all involved and that a series of misunderstandings has occurred and kinder words, maybe even an apology follow.

Alternately, I hope that any judge, at any tournament, anywhere, any time that needs to receive additionally training receives it, or finds other areas of the game to offer their help as a volunteer. Similarly, I hope any players deemed to be possible cheaters are known within the judging community so future bad acts can be prevented or caught.

Regarding the judges at the closest Regional to the state tournament you posted about, I have worked with Bulbasnore, Chrisbo, and SD Pokemom, they have HJ'd teams of judges at Nats and Worlds and are among the games most dedicated and passionate judges.

Thank you for your post. Good luck to your young players, I hope they, and you, stay involved with the game. It has afforded my son and I to share many experiences and we have many great friends and special memories.

Congrats Ruben! Although I claim first place because he has yet to beat me.. lol just kidding. Really though congratulations on the win. This was a great tournament and ran really smooth. It finished much earlier with so much less lag then cali states. I got third place! Pulled two foil energy out of the packs
