I must say, i'm disgusted, and really surprised (in a good way). [Not quite sure if this is the right place for this]

At this recent Florida states, I had made top cut. Final standings had been posted. I put my bag and deckbox down and walked out of the room for a cup of water. Walk back less than a minute later, and my deckbox (with deck) is gone. My bag is untouched. The thought of someone actually stealing my deck didn't even cross my mind, I must've misplaced it. Look throughout the whole hotel (even areas I hadn't been in) and nowhere to be found. That's when I remember looking through my deck right before I had put my bag and deckbox down. Stolen. To make matters worse, there were borrowed cards in my deck. Also, the deck must've been well worth $200+. RH DCE playset, 2 Promo Gigas, RH Mesprits, RH cards and all that jazz not to mention staples such as Uxie X. I bought all the cards back because I felt terrible (the cards borrowed anyways) and it cost me $60, not bad but again it was only 2 cards from the deck borrowed.

What i'm getting at here is that i'm just a bit disappointed in how this had happened. Someone was clearly eyeing my deck because there was no way someone could walk by MY stuff with nothing else around, and accidentally think it was their deck. After all, my Gigas deck is 100% unique anyways.

On the other side of the spectrum, the way it was handled by the players was incredibly heartwarming. Not only true sympathy, but actual people running to their cars to get me cards! In no time I had my whole deck built! Kids helping me sleeve, unsleeve, buying me a snover at the vendor, etc. Keep in mind I barely knew any of these people, some I didn't even know at all. I couldn't even thank them enough before I was sitting at top cut.

So for anyone reading this that helped me rebuild the gigas deck at Florida states this weekend, I seriously cannot thank you enough, and the person with my deck, I hope you feel ashamed.

I've said this many times, and I'll say it again. Pokemon hands down has the best player base out of any card game. Sure, there are still punks like the one that stole your deck, but as a whole, Pokemon's community is very positive, kind, and in your instance, very generous.
 
FL has some good peeps. Sorry to hear your deck got stolen, but glad ppl helped to restore the deck so you could play topcut.

Remember...old saying....Hold onto your stuff. If you put your stuff down, it can becomes someone's elses stuff quickly. Wise words.

I am so sorry that your deck was stolen. I am aware that it has happened before at bigger events, and it just makes us all sick.

My son has had things stolen, but has lost more things, at tournaments.

We found a small carry pack to hold his deck, back up sleeves, dice, condition status markers. He has learned at games end to pack everything up and put on the pack, wearing it until the next match. Not for you Alex, but for young players who just lose stuff, this is a pretty good solution. It also eliminates theft.

I was heartened as I read of the Florida players pulling your deck together before your top cut game began.

Again, while sorry that there are thieves out there, I am glad that you are able to focus on the flip side of that coin, the positive generous sharing and kind players you found in Florida.
 
I accidentally picked up a Dawn Stadium from a Jeremy 6th round at TX states, in a UD sleeve. If you are reading, yes, I have it.

OT tho, I'm sorry about that. I always ask people to watch my stuff, or turn back every 3 seconds to make sure my stuff's still there. I've lost stuff, but not had it stolen.
 
I'm sorry to hear you had your deck stolen, but as people are saying, the Pokemon community is amazing. People will come together for folks they don't even know in situations like this. This is what keeps me in this game.

I can support that claim entirely. I have played up through regional tournaments in yugioh (w/e they call it) and I have had the pleasure of sticking around at league while a PTQ for Magic was going on. I can pretty confidently say that this card game has the largest collection of truly nice people. Yugioh and Magic communities may be spread out, but at least from what I can see, they are not as good as Pokemon players. There are good people who play very well at yugioh and magic (the world tournaments for magic are especially nice people... but on a local scale... not so much). With yugioh, I feel that the top players are pretty self important and are stuck up. There are obvious exceptions, but it is just from my observations.

This heart warming story would probably just not happen in most communities. I hate theft as much as the next guy, but it is just fantastic that people are collectively ready to help a complete stranger. That is amazing that you were able to reconstruct your expensive deck in preparation for the top cut. Major props to everyone at the Florida tournament who made this happen.
 
Pokemon players are nice :D I had dropped all of my damage counters at my last tournament, and many people helped me pick them up. It wasn't just a couple damage counters either :p
 
I have seen stories like this play out time and time again over the years. A deck is lost or stolen and the players and parents at an event pull together and totally rebuild a deck that may have hundreds of dollars worth of cards in it in time for the player to play in the next round. Pokemon players are some of the BEST people in the world. I got a first have example of this at Washington States this past weekend where I got to be a player instead of an organizer or judge. I realized after my second round was over that my Pokewalker had slipped off my pocket because the clip is getting pretty loose. I immediately went back to the table to see if it was on the floor. Unfortunately it was not ... because someone had already found it and taken it to lost and found where I reclaimed it. While I don't have much direct experience with other games, I can't believe any other player base can hold a candle to the Pokemon family!!! :thumb:

im sorry your deck got stolen at oregon states i lost my stuff but found it in lost and found after a ton of people helped me find it
 
Any time I've had stuff stolen, it was never while around the Pokemon crowd. I played many different TCGs, and Pokemon has some very nice, intelligent, and fun people.

Never leave your stuff unattended though. We've had a lot of stuff stolen at our league lately (we suspect it's the YGO crowd...) so whenever I get up to do something I always put everything back in my bag and either take it with me or leave it with a friend I can trust; luckily, no thefts yet. This goes with anything else in life really, never leave the GPS in the car in a visible area, don't leave your purse in your car, don't leave a laptop unattended at school, etc. Because, well, people suck.
 
Sucks the deck was stolen but, for the actual community, we have one of the best in all TCGs...................
 
There's just those small groups of jealous poor buggers that have to steal. Why would you even want to? I'm a very honest person. If I could steal anything without anyone knowing, I wouldn't because I would fell really bad about it. I don't know how these people can carry that amount of shame on their shoulders.
I am very sorry for your loss. I read a post like this before, and now I always take EVERYTHING with me wherever I go. My bag, deck whatever it is. Everything is always in front of me.
 
Wow I was there and had no idea that happened to u. Sry but sometimes people are just bad. But as law man said keep ur stuff with u at all times. Hope to see u at reginals in a few weeks.
 
The year that La. States were held at Hammond Square mall a jr. girl had just made top cut and turned her deck in. It was stolen just 10 seconds later . The lady from houston playing in masters had been playing about the same deck. She dropped and gave her deck to the girl so she could play.
 
I remember once an entire sealed box of EX Delta Species was left completely unattended for over 4 hours during a City Championships. If you think that SF, LA, and Plat are broken sets in our era, Delta Species was even moreso. It contained every single card save one for the most dominant Trainer engine since the Base Set days. A single Reverse Holographic Transceiver was going for over $10 at one time, and the nonholo version wasn't going for much less than that. The box was untouched by the end of the day. That's honesty, folks!

This is true, I've seen similar things.

But it should be said, even in a group of trustworthy people, it only takes one thief.
Especially as we get to the higher level events, there are more and more "outsiders" attending events.

Don't leave your stuff unattended.
 
On the topic of stuff getting stolen, a particular store in NYC (Neutral Ground), was infamous for people showing up PURELY to steal things. They'd hang around an event, maybe try to blend in with a starter deck, but inevitably every time I was ever at that store SOMEONE had SOMETHING stolen. I'm glad most stores and PTOs we have are vigilant enough to keep that element out.
