Cheap Decks That Work

Hey, just getting back into the game again. Like last time (when I made Shuppet), I'm looking for some cheap decks ($-wise) that can function.

Durrant

The most expensive cards in the deck is the pokemon collectors and the Pokemon catchers.
It is a fun deck that gives you a chance to win by decking your opponents out. There are some basic deck lists on this site, just look around.

-Durant/Rotom. The most expensive cards for the deck are actually trainer cards. Chances are, you could get all 60 cards for less money than a single Mewtwo)

-"Lostgar" (Gengar Prime/Lost World). Gengar Primes don't go for much nowadays, nor do Lost Worlds so the cost of a full deck will probably run you a little less than a sealed booster box found cheap ($60-$80).

-"Round House" (Seismitoad/Wigglytuff). The rarest card in a deck isn't even holo. Might be far less competitive than the others listed above.

-Zekrom/Eelektrik. If you decide to run Mewtwo EX then it'll cost yea, but you should be able to find a single copy of Zekrom EX for about $10-$15 without too much trouble right now. As for the rest of the deck? Super cheap - probably the most expensive cards are Catchers and Zekroms.

-Big Basic decks. One Shaymin should run you around $8-$10, but the rest of the cards in this deck should be fairly inexpensive. Regular and Full Art versions of cards like Terrakion NVI/Cobalion NVI/Virizion NVI/Reshiram BLW/Zekrom BLW make all of these very accessible, and - again - your biggest trouble may just be the Catchers.

Durrant seems pretty cool, and VERY cheap. Thanks for that suggestion!

What is the "Big Basic" deck? It sounds pretty sweet, almost like a Haymaker.

Catchers seem pretty spendy for a playset, but I'll shell out anyway. Pokemon Company, Y U NO just reprint Gust of Wind? xD

I know people are trying to be more helpful than this, but I feel it's worth saying: If you really, truly want to compete at a high level without spending a ton of money, Durant is really your only choice. Yes, you can play other decks without Mewtwo EX, but they will all be worse off for it. Durant won't.

I should have found a better way to articulate it, but the most information you'll find is by looking up "Six Corners." However, you don't necessarily need to build whatever you see posted; rather, you can really play any number of basics and have a good, competitive deck. Hence "big basics."

Yeah, Mewtwo seems difficult to get a set of. For those prices I could be getting Force of Wills.

Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks.

Are there any Cinccino decks around right now? I remember that they seemed to have a "wave" :)lol:) of popularity when I had just left.

THey dont do enough damage and they have too little HP to be effectvie. Try Round instead the toads have 140 HP are weak to grass wich in not a common type played right now and can max out at 180 damamge for two energy.

New nerfed rare candy, no bts, no consistent draw engine and basics with 130+hp made jumpluff not very effective. Only place you'll see 'pluff these days is the Lost Zone for Mew Prime toolbox decks.

Ants in the pants is the cheapest deck that will get you the furthest

I've been trying Durant online, and I'm not very impressed. I usually like the tempo styled decks, but this one doesn't feel very action-y. I heard the Typhlosion/Reshiram deck is pretty cheap now, though.

Typhlosion is still pretty expensive. 6$ is still a bit too much, especially since you need at least 3..

One thing you should keep in mind though is that you don't need Collectors. Pokémon collector is overpriced and overrated. Dual Balls work. You can also try Level Ball/Heavy Ball, depending on what your deck runs.

No.

Just no. Collector is absolutely essential to compete at a high level. Nothing overrated about it, friend.

I respect your opinion though.
@ Lanturn
I have, after some extensive testing, found them to be equally good. If you don't have the Collectors then the Ball engine is a good choice. If you have Collectors, either engine is fine. Just remember you need 3-4 Pokégear 3.0 when you play Collector.

Thank you!

So are you guys saying that the deck can work without the Collectors? If so, that saves a bundle!

I'd only be using it for leagues. Would they generally care if I used the silver-bordered collectors? I have a playset, and they didn't seem to mind when I used that for an Uxie.

League is unofficial so no one SHOULD care, I know I wouldn't. If you aren't going to play in events then don't play Durant. I bash it publicly on a regular basis; relevant reason here being it is really not winning in a way Pokemon wants decks to win. It's really not that fun to play against or use in many peoples opinions. A good competitive deck that is more midrange than pure aggro or combo is Reshiram Typhlosion. It is a combo deck that puts out big damage quite quickly. It is pretty cheap, the primes have been reprinted in tins and reshiram is a regular rare has been reprinted like, six times or something. It can run without catchers fine too. I strongly disagree with collector being an equal to the Ball "engine". If you plan on staying in the game for a decent amount of time, I'd invest in the uncommons at least.
