Strategy against Mewtwo...if you don't have one

This is my Eels deck pokemon list:
3 Zekom BW
2 Zekrom EX
1 Thundurus
4-3 Eelektrik
1 Cleffa
1 Shaymin - tech for moving energy around if needed to finish something off

I probably won't be able to grab one unless I get luck buying a couple of boosters.

I just don't like pretty much sacrificing a pokemon so i can knock out Mewtwo on the next turn, which is what I've been doing.

Any ideas from more advanced players?

If you don't have a Mewtwo EX.. It seems you just have to take it down with your Zekroms. Zekrom EX could definitely put up a fight against Mewtwo but if I was playing CMT I would use Tornadus to go after your Electriks for cheap prizes.

The goal of the game right now is to be able to take down EX's with Pokemon that only give up one prize.
If you could acheive that. You should be fine.

I know two decks that could do so and they both involve trainer lock. Just think outside the box.

Personally, I don't think Zekeel is a great deck. I know it works great and could win but in my mind, a great deck has to have an advantage over every deck. I'd invite a Zekeel player to play against a GOOD player with a Truth varient and see how much trouble they have.

^ I'd invite that same Ross player to play against a GOOD player using Magnezone/Eel, and see how much trouble they have.

Anyways, Zekrom EX + 2 PP, Thundurus followed by Bolt Strike, etc. are all decent ways of killing Mewtwo. Also killing Eels could help. Just make sure not to give away the fact that you don't play Mewtwo, and they won't just play it down and start attacking with it in most cases.

Well Magnezone Eel is a different story but that is generally an even matchup as well. Im just saying ZekEel has a much smaller chance of winning that match up, therefore, I personally would never play ZekEel.

Agree with the above posters. Magnezone is the best answer, even though that is essentially a different deck.

If you aren't set on using the eels, Reshiplosion has a good Mewtwo matchup without actually needing to use Mewtwo.

Um... isn't that a Stage 1 Pokemon that relies on coin flips? I'll be happy to be wrong, but I wrote that off as being like Weezing: so close to a counter but not quite good enough.

Thing with DarMAXitan is that you are running a Stage 1 PLUS support (Fliptini and maybe Gothitelle) just to try and deal with a card that is splashed into decks that already have plenty of options.

You won't likely even see a Mewtwo if you play Darmanitan. It will just get OHKO'd by Zekrom BW, Magnezone, or Reshiram instead.

Not to mention Mewtwo itself can OHKO it if it's already in play.

The thought here is to look for non-Mewtwo counters for Mewtwo.

There's also the Mew/Jumpluff counter, but that's reasonably easily countered itself...

Zekrom/Eel, if teched correctly, is clear BDIF. The only reason Celebi/Mewtwo or Celebi/Tornadus/Mewtwo can keep up in wins with it is their donk-ability. The Truth is absolutely no problem, there are lots of techs that deal with this deck easily.

Unfortunally, there is no good anti-Mewtwo-tech for Zekrom/Eel except for an own Mewtwo. You still could win by 2hitting them, but without Mewtwo ex it is difficult if the win the starting coinflip. If you get to start it shouldn't be that kind of problem.

I was talking about DarMAXitan being flawed because Mewtwo EX can kill it right back. It isn't a very good counter if it can be killed by the thing it's supposed to counter before it can act.

So if a deck has a bad matchup, you don't play it?

Please tell me, what deck DO you play? I wish I knew a deck that had no bad matchups...

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I'm going to start testing against the CMT deck that won the ECC and see how it goes.

I've changing my Eel line to 4-4 b/c of catcher.

You don't need 4-4. 4-3 is far better, and instead of the fourth put in a Super Rod if you don't already have one.

I've been playing a Mewtwo-less Zekrom and I find that swarming non-Ex Zekroms are handy against CMT players since their only major attacker is Mewtwo and you can usually Bolt Strike spam them to oblivion. Now, this is somewhat a challenge if they run tech Terrakions, but this is mostly rumor and I haven't run across PlayTCG players who do, so I can't really say how expected it'd be.

After testing my Eel deck with 4 or 5 different variations, this weekend, I've come up with an answer.

Drum roll please

Wait for it

Play Durant. Sadly, that's all that I could come up with.
