Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

PTCGO updated,check for major news!!!

Funny how it's a complete and utter failure, yet everyone would rather have it back right now rather then wait for something better.

While it was buggy and such, it was at least playable. Now the game is unplayable. Most people cant even log in.

I'd rather play the old one and test deck then use starter decks.

They are a 2 other programs available that allow you to test your decks if that's what you want to do.

This is about testing the program not your decks.

Obviously they have a limited number of workers. In order to make a faster release date (which everyone has made clear to be what they want) they take advantage of an open beta's free labor in order to find all the issues as quickly as possible.

If this is about testing the PROGRAM there should an easy way to report bugs/mistakes/problems.
But for a very long time it's hard to file a ticket (and yes that is reported several times)

As someone else already said: this is not even close to a beta version... This is just garbage...

Basically, because we've been in "beta" for so long (over a year). We want a completed program after such a long beta period. Personally, the only time a program that I've seen had such a long public beta period was Minecraft, and there were no expectations going into that thing. Basically, they've overpromised and underdelivered for this, and nothing makes customers angrier than that.

They haven't been working on THIS beta for a year. This is a completely new build of the game.

This is the right way to correct the game, and the way it should have been done in the first place--forget styling at the beginning and make sure the game plays like it's supposed to. It can be polished up later, and I think it's pretty clear that it will be polished up later.

another new "coming soon" feature-if you click on login and then profile you can see what the "profile" tab will look like in the near future and what kind of information will be seen there

Public perception. Not everybody knows that this client is a completely different game. Perception is reality. And right now the perception is that they have been working on the game for over a year and we get this thing to deal with.

I know, it sucks. But it also needs to get done.

And, BTW, I agree about the graphical interface. There's this great article on Game Informer that I just can't find right now. It had the development process of some of the new boards for Pinball FX Avengers DLC. Basically, they showed the graphical progress from beginning to end of one of their new boards. The first board looks very bare-bones, just trying to get the ramps and stuff right. I was kinda hoping that the PTCGO client would look something like that for the first go-around, so that we know that it's in a beta state...

Thats a good point. I agree it should be easy to report bugs.

so, i just want to be sure on this one: i only use a mac, so i'm out of luck, right?

edit: sorry, i'm out of luck until at least "later this year." and since i don't really care to play on ptcgo right now, i'd like to sell my 3 mewtwo EX. but i basically can't do that either, right?

you dont have to be so grim about it,it is your decision to only use mac. and to answer your questions:
Yes,Yes you can't.

I wasn't trying to be grim, but I am slightly perturbed and concerned.

A general question for people who may know better than I: Is this a normal business practice in relation to software development, for a company to put out a beta version of something and then scrap the whole thing altogether and put out another beta version trying to do the same thing? And if so, does it usually take this long?

If so, then that's completely fine. But if not, then what's the deal?

And ticka222 — going back to what you said — I just don't want to see the ptcgo end up in the same place the Pokemon TFG ended up: an erchived forum on PokeGym and a distant memory for us players. I want to see this game thrive, and I honestly thought we'd have a workable version of the ptcgo at this point.

How are they supposed to figure out if the game works or not if the decks they give for the trainer challenge are complete trash? We don't have stuff like Lilligant, Victini, Eviolite, junk arm, etc. to see if the game actually works.

I just played a game, and while the computer moves quite fast (Too fast), overall I think it's a nice improvement.

I don't like the fact that you can't see the energies underneath the pokemon too well, but overall it's running very nice.
And yes, the opponent's moves are quite fast

They already announced that they have the ability to directly patch that stuff, and plan to in the next few weeks. I'm pleasantly happy with it.

But the big question is: Do Eviolite, Junk Arm and Fliptini work properly? lol Honestly I could care less what the game looks like as long as the cards do what they are supposed to do.

Releasing multiple betas from different companies definitely isn't the norm.... But taking this long to create and test a program that will be this in-depth is. Coding and all takes a long time. Even just getting a menu to behave a certain way can take as long as days if there aren't built-in functions for it in the dev software.

I feel your pain about the mac thing, though. On the positive side of it, at least once we get a version we can play, it'll probably be a more stable version.

To everyone asking about Eviolite and all; I think you're missing the point. The idea of this is to test a beta of the core game. I'm sure all of that stuff will be looked at in due time, but remember they're just trying to make sure the very basics work. They want to walk before they run, but you're all telling them to run before they've made their baby steps.

They already made the baby steps. The gave us a product, which was in beta for over a year (the longest beta I've ever seen btw) scraped it and then gave us another beta which is unplayable to those who want to play it.

The purpose of a beta is for the users of said beta to test and report back any bugs they found in the beta version so the final version (retail, RTM, etc) would be up to standards. We were promised a better version of PTCGO. One that was bug free for the most part and that all of out testing and reporting back would pay off after a year.

We don't want to test Trainer Challenge again. We already did that. The could at least put PvP back online so players can test their decks. Sure the old version was buggy but it was at least playable and an update could have fixed some of the item and supporter issues.

I used to work at an insurance company and was asked to do some testing myself for their programs, so I definitely know how long this process can take. I guess my gripe is with them scrapping what they already had — not that they made that decision but that things seemed poorly planned in the first place. Of course, this is all a matter of perspective; I definitely don't know the whole story behind the making of the ptcgo. But it just seems wasteful to dedicate time (and money) to a project that you have to get rid of altogether at some point.

I do look forward to a more stable version of the ptcgo though; and like I said, I just want to see the game thrive. Hangups like this make me :frown:.
