Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Why Isn't playtcg as popular as Pokemon tcg online?

playtcg isnt for everyone. Im pretty lazy and i hate having to drag and drop everything. Ptcgo kinda has incentive to play because you can trade and not everything is given to you. Playtesting is good onplaytcg, but ptcgo is more fun overall.

And I think playtesting is best on ptcgo whn you got all the cards.
1. So much faster
2. Sooo much faster
And I personally don´t like the playtcg randomizer.

Imo playtcg is better. The average level of play is higher, you don't have to deal with glitches, and you don't have to collect the cards. Everyone is more serious and play in-format. I'll switch over the PTCGO when there's organized play.

Personally, I feel like playtcg is a bit manual and.. well.. ghetto. I'd much rather play an official and polished product (even with the bugs).

On the whole though (speaking for why there's more on PTCGO) -- that's simple. More people know about PTCGO.

The shuffling in PTCGO makes me cry.

I'm the opposite. PlayTCG's shuffle algorithm seems to be very different from my real world testing, and it tends to force HUGE clumps. I've had tons of 7 energy hands on PlayTCG, whereas I've had 1 or 2 on PTCGO.

I'd bet that either shuffling algorithim produces better randomisation than most player's real life shuffling.

I've never vs'd a random player on Playtcg so maybe 100% of them are pro's who don't make silly mistakes, but from vs'ing friends/new players the fact it is so easy to do illegal moves even by accident/ignorance and not be able to notice until too late because of lag/typing is a massive pain.

I'm VERY grateful of its existence but if I'm going to just play against random people of varying skill levels I'd rather use PTCGO. I still do use Playtcg when friends don't have the online collection to build their deck.

I don't like PTCGO cuz my Sableye doesn't have free retreat with a dark attached and Darkrai in play.

Probably because you played Darkrai after sableye was already out and had an energy attached. It's a known bug, and still not as annoying as playing someone who cheats because there basically isn't any rules.

I'd still take PTCGO any day.

PlayTCG's Randomizer is suspect, but the shuffling isn't a case I can really argue.

Do you have evidence that PlayTCG's randomizer is suspect? I have drawn 1,000 rolls from the PlayTCG die and conducted a chi-squared test. The probability of observing the given distribution (or a more skewed distribution of evens and odds) if evens and odds were equally likely to happen was way over 0.05. (0.05 is the typical criterion for statistical significance.)

Do you have a sample of rolls that you would like to provide that demonstrates that PlayTCG's randomizer does not sufficiently randomize?

That's most likely because you're not randomizing your deck as much as PlayTCG does.

Huge clumps are typical of randomized distributions.

I do not, only the observations of the debugging console that was present on PlayTCG V1, and the general lack of randomness from a computer, which obviously applies to all simulators.

We don't live in the 1980s anymore. Computer algorithms for generating sufficiently random pseudo-random numbers are perfectly adequate today. "The general lack of randomness from a computer" is generally a misnomer, originally said because computers cannot currently generate truly random numbers. While computers are unable to generate truly random numbers, the basic pseudo-randomization algorithms today can produce numbers that are beyond sufficiently random for a game of Pokemon.

Also, do you have a copy of the debugging console anywhere? Do you mind pasting it here?

^ Psychup: I've meant to take an academic approach to studying the shuffling algorithms in PlayTCG for a while but haven't had a good chance, nor really the expertise. It'd be a big sitdown session for me.

But I've observed that with a new deck or a newly ordered deck (for any reason, such as closing the game and re-entering it) the game produces extreme clumps just as if you had sat down to a tournament top cut game and shuffled insufficiently.

So that actually spells some good news for the shuffling algorithm's "honesty" when compared to hand shuffling.

I can appreciate the idea here, but I often have issues on PlayTCG where I will draw my deck in order from a random spot in the list. This isn't random.

That might be because whenever you refresh the page, the deck goes back in order. That's the only bug I've had on PlayTCG. That, and that the damage counters sometimes don't show up on older compters that haven't had updates (such as the library's).

I cannot stand PlayTCG because of the way it makes my field look. It sounds like a stupid reason, but I can't keep track of anything and feel annoyed the whole time while using it. Looks like I'm playing 60 card pickup with my deck.
