Getting scammed.

I recently lost a huge amount of cards in a trade. £1000+ worth and I don't know what to do. He sent out before me and showed me 2 different proof of postages to my house, however, the chances of 2 packages not arriving are just insane. There's something wrong, I just dont know what. The Police aren't interested, Roual Mail are sticking to their it could arrive story. I don't expect the police to do anything because it isn't their job to monitor my trades.

Basically, what do you do when you get scammed? I know people say theyll go to the police and all that but it never ever actually works.

And I know I was stupid to send without tracking, but. I had work all week and couldn't be here to sign for hem and neither could the lad I traded with (not a user on here)
 
If you get scammed by trade.. there's nothing much you can do about it. You can only file for mail fraud and that's all.
 
Was it an international trade?
I mean that is why you track stuff. If you can't be there to sign, I think you can pick it up at a post office. They don't just throw it away. All I can suggest is contacting your post office or going down there to see if they have it.
 
The dollar amount of that trade alone was literally enough to justify taking a day off of work.
I don't know what to tell you other than file mail fraud and never even consider sending close to that amount without tracking again.
 
What did you trade?! I think the biggest trade I've ever done here was maybe $300 worth, so I can't imagine what a $1500 trade looks like.
 
Sending that amount of cards without tracking OR insurance was not a very good idea.... :/ You didn't happen to trade for the fake Prerelease Raichu, did you? I heard the guy traded for $1000 worth of cards...

I believe it was $10,000+ from what I heard and nothing can be done legally. :/

Your kind of screwed as the person you traded with can accuse you of trying to scam them aswell seen as you didn't use tracking.
 
This is why sometimes a middle man comes in handy. There's some people here that are very trustworthy. I feel that if it's a big trade, a middleman is necessary so they can confirmed that both ends are received. And of course, a middle man fee is necessary because they're taking time out of their lives to confirm the trade and ship everything out accordingly.
 
I'm assuming it was this guy because the guy who got scammed was from UK, apparently he got sent a normal raichu after he posted 10k worth of cards or something like that in some kind of Trade involving PayPal I don't know exactly how it works.

There is another fake prerelease raichu card on the market that actually has a stamp on it but the stamp is too far to the left so its definitely a fake too just thought I'd tell anyone in case they been offered that card.
 
No, it wasn't for Prerelease Paichu. It just involved a lot of valuable cards.

My thought is though, that even if I was to send with tracking and it arrived at someones house and then scammed me, still, even with tracking, what could be done?

If the person was to say my neighbour signed for it, or someone else on the street did but I'm not sure who, then what could be done? Nothing.

Or even if one person sent with tracking and the other one didn't, he could say I sent. The police can't prove that he didn't send and in all honesty I doubt the police would even look into any trade enough to go round to someones house to even find out.

So even with tracking, I think we're all still completely open to scams, it's just hoping that we never come across anyone low enough to do it to us,

Why didn't you just do the trade through paypal for the cards Value? so even if you didn't recieve the cards you could open a case against them? Tracking can only prove the package arrived not what was in inside thats why its not not a good idea to do trades for high amounts
 
But what happened exactly? You sent your cards and the other person said they sent but you didn't receive? Was the trade done here? What was the trade for?

We both agreed to send without tracking due to work, he showed me 2 proof of postages, I have no idea how he showed me them, whether he has a friend or relative working at a post office or what, I don't know. How showed me photos of them in his hand, so they weren't edited.

The trade was done through email and other means, this site, or any other trading sites were not included in the slightest.

The trade was for multiple complete sets from both sides, gold stars, shinings and boosters coming from both sides.

Exact same thing happened to someone else in the UK Last week. They got sent 2 proofs of Postages but Only 1 Package arrived with just 1 card. You didn't by any chance met this person on Ebay did you?

That's naive. It's not impossible to digitally manipulate an object in a picture just because it's in someone's hand...

Here's hoping he didn't, and your packages show up a little late. :frown: But seriously, that high of a value and you did no tracking? You know what they say about a fool and his money... no work excuses. See about taking an extended lunch break or something. I wouldn't go without tracking for something that was 1/100 of that value, let alone something that value.

I know I was foolish, but I also know that the photo wasn't edited, it definitely wasn't edited, he got it some other way.
 
I agree with you that tracking probably wouldn't have saved you in this specific situation, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. Remember, a truly dishonest person can always claim to not have received, and tracking at least disproves that part.

Anyways, I don't think you should have dealt in such a huge number of cards with someone you just met over ebay. On ebay it's incredibly easy to make yourself look like a 'good' person since you pretty much get positive feedback automatically when buying something. If you're ever going to risk that much in a transaction, you're better off being here in the gym, for example, as I don't think anyone with a high number of refs here (50+) would scam. It's much harder to get positive refs here than ebay.
