Hey guys,

I wanted to know if anyone has any information about the distribution for the Stadium Challenge Metang promo. The only information I know is that the Metang was distributed to participants in the 2004 Stadium Challenge. Other than that, I don’t know if the card was mass distributed in another manner because I rarely see the card for sale and the PSA pop report is low. I looked into some old threads and found that it was offered in PUI’s league box according to one thread (I’m assuming PUI is a distributor?):

Pokémon Center @ Nintendo World Party

I'm sure that NINTENDO will offer this NAVAL PASS...maybe at the Comic Con...if not there, I'm pretty sure that they'll offer you these pokes @ the upcoming WORLD'S event taking place in August in San Diego...most likely through Pokemon Rocks America, they were at last year's event and I'm sure...

In another thread, PUI also messed up the shipping and sent the card to several gym challenges according to this thread:

Promo #23 is the Metang

Well then where is the promo marked Beldum suppose to go?

So, I’m assuming that a decent amount should be in circulation?

I’m curious because I’m used to seeing many Black star promos being easily accessible. So, does any know what’s up with this card?

Thabk you for responding though! Since there has been a recent Pokemon boom, more older cards have been popping up. Yet this promo is still difficult to find. So, I was curious if it had a low distribution or something.
 
I too cannot remember the origin of this promo. I'm not too sure we even have it. If we do, it was either from attending an event or given to us by Bob.

Thank you for the answer! From my understanding, it was given to participants of the 2004 Stadium Challenge. I believe there was three of them - one in the West Coast, one in the East Coast, and one in the South. I was curious about this card and the Stadium Challenge Deoxys. These promos seem to be so obscure.

I have a couple of them.
As far as I'm aware, they were only available at that Stadium Challenge series.

Awesome, thank you for the response! So, they were only at the Stadium Challenge? No others were available in league kits or gym challenges?
 
Am I allowed to mention here that I will have one listed on a well-known auction site starting tomorrow? Or is there a more appropriate place to share such news?

Well, this thread is about the metang promo and is in the card price forum so this is the most appropriate place to post! Maybe creating another thread about the auction specifically will get the info out better?

Also, where did you manage to stumble upon your copies? Did you trade/buy or did you attend the events?
 
So knowing me I will have obtained my copies through trades.

Back in the mid-2000s I was a big trader (and lastly a Pokegym mod). I put my collection away early 2006 and brought it out of mothballs in December 2020.

Or, if it was from an event you participated or was part of the staff, you got one that way as well. Staff members usually got cards if my memory serves correct. I gave out cards to all who were staff at my events, at least whenever possible.

Nice! You must have a great collection! I’m guessing that you must have cards from Aquapolis, Skyridge, & EX Team Rocket Returns? Some of my favorite cards are form those sets. Sadly, those cards and the boosters are expensive now.

From what I read in this forum, the distributions seemed kind of strict - one card per person. Do extra promos have to get sent back? Also, do event organizers have to specify how many promos they need based on the amount of people that they expect to attend?

There were usually some extras as they gave you an amount based on what you should get as attendance. No, extras were not sent back. I used to give any extras out to staff, at Pokemon Leagues as prizes, etc.
