Well.... i am actually kinda facing a dilemma as i am about to go to UK to furthur my studies... the promo is in malaysia my league/CC/Nats is less then 20 minutes drive from my house so i am fairly active here but in UK i would not have a car and thus i dunno whetehr i can keep up

i bascially have two choices.... either liverpool or cardiff...... so can anyone tell me which one of these two has more leagues/tourneys/CC/SC/RC/Nats NEARER or CLOSE or IN it

plz help guys

i really need to know

ps: most importantly which place has more card shops and active players

thanks guys

probably better in the intl forum tbh...

i know there is a league in Manchester and Crewe which are both close(ish) to Liverpool. Cardiff- I know Vincent was having some real trouble getting to tournaments when he was(is?) at uni there.

tbh mate, i would decide more on the merits of each university- academically and socially, rather than what leagues are near it......

Hogwash, Mr. Stone!
The priority has got to be Pokemon availability, obviously.
So it's got to be Liverpool.
About 1 hour, and £6 return, from Manchester, home of FanBoy3 Pokemon.
There are some card shops in Liverpool, but no players I know of.

I remember a couple of players that went to Liverpool Uni- a nice couple who were pretty seriously into the game. Not sure if they are still active on gym or in the game even....
The girls name was Hannah and the guy Top 4'd at Manchester regional 2006- i would recognise the name if anyone had the top 4 results.... V nice people!
Best thing to do- go to Fanboy Three league and then ask the great Rod (lol at unintentional pun. he's the league leader ) to loudly ask the players there if anyone was from the Liverpool area.

at the current asessmemt of both unis they are both the same... lol ... so it makes not much difference where i go to study on an academic terms but in pokemon terms it is really really really important lol...

and taking what u guys are saying liverpool is obviously the better choice out of the two right??

and can somebody tell me how far is liverpool from Hull?? or whereever nats was held

plz

thanks guys for helping me :)

Getting to Nationals (Woburn) was a pain no matter where you live in the UK.

Manchester, Blackpool and Crewe, and all physically closer to Liverpool than Hessel

Your not that far from Hull either really - it takes a couple of hours to drive to Hull from Liverpool (I have relatives there that come all the time), so especially for the larger premier events its still well within travelling distance for you if you can manage to get a lift.

All the same, make sure your priority is that your university is right for you.

By the way (if you don't mind me asking) - what are you studying?

My friend at Liverpool says the nightlife is AMAZING, but I'm sure anyone from Cardiff would disagree lol. ho hum!
purely on pokemon merits, Liverpool would have it for me. but obv u wan2 be getting out to bars and clubs and stuff too

hope to see you at some northern events in the near future!

Just go to a uni in london.........there are leagues in london, rainham and crawley you can easily get to within 45 minutes from the centre..........also its only 45 minutes to from High Wycombe! Easy to Wobern what else could you want!

I'm surprised Mr Stone hasn't told you about the delights of studying at Canterbury either and we are right next to the train station with a direct line to Canterbury :)

Seriously though choose on Academic grounds and don't discount Scotland either some good unis there too and the Scots now rule the UK ...

Hey guys thanks for responding...

firstly i would like to thank all of u guys for telling me and reminding me about the academic issues but i seem to can't stress this furthur..... both liverpool and cardiff is the same... so it really depends on the extra stuff now lol.... eg... pokemon, football, shopping

i assure u even if i end up in cardiff i would still travel... my priority is places where it is closer so that then i don't have to travel so much

Yes, getting the train isn't too bad actually (well, with times anyway). Just a quick search on www.nationalrail.co.uk shows pleanty of trains from Liverpool to Hessle Station on
Saturdays. e.g. Departs liverpool @ 6:10am, Arrives Hessle @ 9:39am - which leaves a generous amount of time for any delays that might occur too and pleanty of time to get registered.

It ain't cheap though - £50 return for an adult fare (although they do offer a student railcard which knocks about a 1/3 off the price). Anyway, that website is a great resource for train times so I'll leave it with you.

Oh, and I only say about a car because I know quite a few people from that area do car pools to us quite often. You never know...
