Hello everyone,

I got banned for a "nasty personal comment" for 30 days. Sorry to those who missed me.

Anyhow, on to my mission....

I recently put a lot of thought into the publication of decklists after EVERY major sanctioned event such as, cities, states, BR's, etc...

My conclusion has totally changed the way I think about this game. I have settled into the realization about printing decklist on the OP site. I think this would "greatly enhance" not only the game as a whole but the OP website traffic as well.

Now I know, I was a strong opponent for netdecking. I STILL AM!!! As people know, if you ask me for a list, I generally will share it with you unless I feel its a detriment to me. (ex. my direct competition) I do not suggest that we post these decks for people to netdeck. I would like to use this tool as a means to encourage mediocre players to understand the complexities and elite strategies of this game.

Dont get me wrong here, I still encourage everyone to work on their SD's for events. However, It can only enhance the competition level and overall enjoyment of the game if this is done.

In closing, I would like to further state my position. Pete and Dave, I know you read these boards. I would like to encourage you to post the top 2 or top 4 decks at all events on the OP site to level the playing field and promote more parody in the game.

Thoughts,
JImmy

I would like to see decks published on the OP site. Just keep in mind that this would require a substaintal effort on the part of PUI, particularly if it went all the way the city level. Also, there may be some legal issues involved (where are the lawyers when you need them?).

welcome back, sir.

may i have the decklist for umm.... meltdown?

why? i do not believe that its going to be claydols cause i know its a joke.

thank you.

Yea I wish they would publish decks. Cuz that kinda solves netdecking and it helps newer or average players learn from tha pros and get better. I mean Top 2 or top 4 seems kinda big for like BR's and Cities. I'd say top 1 would get there deck showed.

Stuff like States, Regionals, Nationals should get there deck published on the website for peoples view. Like the top 2/4 players. At worlds they do top 4 decklists in the booklets. If they could make it online and make them visible online it'd be cool. Can someone uptain them and post em on a website?

There would be no legal issues.
One of the things agreed to when signing up for a POP ID is that decklists can be published by POP.

Jimmy -

Well written.

Can you describe what was the determining factor(s) in changing positions on publishing vs not publishing?

Additionally, I want to compliment you on your ability to maintain PRIDE in your deck making/playing capabilities while promoting ENHANCING Organized Play.

Can you describe what was the determining factor(s) in changing positions on publishing vs not publishing?

Well, the main reason I decided to change my stance is.....

1) I am not comfortable with the direction the game is heading in regards to SD's. It is stiffling creativity across the board. People are more concerned about what the SD is than picking up cards and building something that works for them.

2) SD's are good once. After its used in an event it is public knowledge and should be treated as such.

3) It would seriously level the playing field. this game has come down to matchups so much, there is less focus on skill. By having these decks out there and ready to be played, it will INCREASE the skill aspect of the game.

4) Posting decklists on the OP site would give them the boost they are looking for on the OP site. There are some new players that dont even know Pokemon has organized play. This would greatly increase the number of people visiting the OP site and actually getting involved in the game.

5) This would also level the playing field for mediocre players. It would be a great learning tool for all those who strive to be their best but just cant quite make it due to limited players in their area, lack of leagues, or just dont have the ability to build a deck. Notice I will still stand firm on my NETDECKING position. I just hope this info will be used appropriatly.

I really love this game. Sure theres a TON of drama involved in it, but its part of the fun. I personally enjoy the deckmaking aspect of the game the most. I am a person who would rather see my DECK do well, than MYSELF do well. (although i like doing well with my decks) I just think this game is taking a turn for the worst with all the secrecy involved in SD's.

Posting them will open the game up to a whole new era. I'd even be willing to help with the maintenance of such postings on the OP site.

I agree with Jimmy. For a lot of reasons :

- OP website frequentation increased

- Pokémon TCG assuming the fact that it is a great game, with a lot of strategy implicated, where you can build complicated decks and great synergies between cards, as the others TCG, and not only pieces of paper with cute creatures on it

- Increasing the level of many players by showing them what is a good and winning deck

- Having a clear view of the Metagame for people who love creating brand new devastating decks.

I agree top list should be published for larger events such as States Regionals and Nationals, I see little point with Battle Roads and Cities. I also play yu-gi-oh in my free time, now theres alot of things I disagree with the company on but some things I really do agree on is,

1: that they do post list which I do look at, do I net deck them? no, but its definitly a great way to see what does well at big events and what is new and to also go back and look at cards I completely over looked, and may I also add this is relativly little net decking going on(I mean copy card for card) there is alot of copy techs or stradgies but the same already happens in pokemon, I for one admit I've played Jirachi Swoop Turn 2 did I come up with it no but how many others have done the same. I really don't consider that netdecking though. I also think it is great for playtesting, I admit it I have chucks Bannette sitting in my living room for play testing. Since I know this list did incredibly well at a big tournament.

I think the definite downside is players and teams work months on prefecting decks and then all there hard work goes up on line for everybody to copy without any effort or putting time in on it since most of the top players spend months perfecting there list.

2: The second thing yu-gi-oh does I really like is feature matchs, where at the bigger events each round they choose 2 people from the top tables usually bigger names for example Jasons playing Jermey 2 World Champs would definitly be a match people want to hear about. And pretty much they just tells what happens this also gives an insite into there decks and stradiges without releasing a full list.

My last suggestion would be to release the top 8 decks of Nats after Worlds and also release the entire top cut of Worlds deck list not just top 4,

Just some thoughts

I agree 100% here, I have always thought publishing decklists after the tournament would be a good thing for POP to do.

I remember me posting a few comments a while back that were identical to what Jimmy is saying. I got bashed, Jimmy gets adored. The world keeps turning :p

I agree with this thread. It wouldn't hurt the game one bit to post decklists of the decks that win the big tournaments. It would help the non-professional players by giving them a list that they can see the skeleton of cards and how they were used. It would help professional players know their metagame better.

Actually, an idea hit me. Lists need to listed WITH information about them from the person who played it. Like Chris Fulop's Absolutions decklist should be posted and Chris should post about why certain cards were used and why certain amounts were used. THIS would be the most beneficial to the non-competitive players and hopefully this would give those players a little more confidence to play competitively.

I'd love to see a decent TCG website (maybe connected in some way to PUI or POP) have these lists but also have articles written on strategies (like the ones we love on the Japanese websites).

I kinda like the idea, but there will be a lot of mediocre players that just copy card for card some of the lists they see. Pokemon is still a game where the deck you make is more important than your in-game skill, so now (whether it is good or bad), you have weaker players much more able to beat better players because of these lists. I'm not sure that is fair.
It would help make the culture of the game a little less deceitful though.

Let's not think about this from our perspective. We already know why a certain card might require 4 in the deck. But how about all those players that have no idea that pop exists that Jimmy was thinking would visit the site if the decklists were on there. How are they going to know that a 4 Trans, 4 Mentor, blah, blah, blah is the best version of the holon engine? The reason I thought it would be good to have explanation is because it would help the non-competitive players (but future competitive players) learn more about the skill of deck making. You can't just slap trainers down on a table and make the next big deck. And if the people that did well with these decks explained why certain cards were used and in certain quantities, those newer players would learn and walk away with more information that would help them out more in the future.

Take any 8 year old kid and drop a Absolutions decklist down in front of them. If they are like the average 8 year old kid, they won't understand why you ran 2 of this eeveelution and 1 of that one. Why there was 4 super scoop up or why there are no dark energy in the deck with Absol ex in the deck. This is where the explanation would come in. It would tell them why certain cards were used in more quantities and why there were 4 of this and 2 of that. They would have a much higher chance of understanding and using that knowledge for future use. That 8 year old player might grow into the next Curren Hill or in a few years, the next Bobby Malec.

The game grows if the players grow. And the players have a higher chance of growing in skill if there are explanations with the decklists.

go to www.metagame.com for ideas on how yu-gi-oh does it. (no, im not promoting another site, im trying to helpo with the discussion)

click on the yugioh, at all their big events they do play-by-play details on feature matches and also post the top 8/top 16 decklists at each event. I know you all dont liek yugioh, and i dont anymore either, but its just showing how things could be done to help our game.

We missed you Jimmy.

I support the deck posting on the official OP site, would definitely increase traffic there.

Your deck works my friend. I am not sold that it beats absolutions, but I came out swinging and ready for it...so we will discuss later. (Just a tease for the casual reader)

I agree with Ross. I see more medicore players (the decent people who top cut occasionally, etc.) getting a huge helping hand with this and hurting the good players.

I am surprised BANGINBOX is getting such good responses.
If you see how MTG does things, (and no, I don't think MTG is the standard by which everything should be judged) they have content on their website in regards to what kind of decks won Regional Championships and other tournaments. I can't recall if they post decklists, but they will breakdown what deck archetypes won how many Regionals (and then tell you how many "rougue" decks won).

MTG has strategy/metagame analysis articles on its website, and this certainly wouldn't be impossible for Pokemon.
