Help with Verizon

I have terrible luck with wireless. We just switched to Verizon in order to save a bit of money, but unfortunately the fancy new router they gave us with it won't allow my DS to connect to Nintendo WFC. For some reason my DS can't get the IP address, and therefore I can't use it. Any advice from the other people with the demonicness known as Verizon?
 
You need to manually get the IP address. I don't know how a verizon router works excatly, but you need to access the menu for it and if you look around, you should be able to find out you IP address, then you can put it into your DS manually, that's what I had to do, but I have netgear, no verizion. The principle should be the same.

Tried it. Even though I entered the IP address exactly as it said on my computer, it said that the information was invalid.

I'd prefer to find a solution that will allow me to do it wirelessly, one, because I'd like to be able to get in from anywhere in my house, and two because I have no money with which to buy the connector.

It's not a matter of security. It's just that the DS refuses to register the IP address. Even though it's three feet away, even when I enter it manually, it doesn't recognize it as correct.

Lame as it sounds, my mom won't let me, cause she thinks it'll screw it up, even though she's having exactly the same problem with her laptop. If you ask me the Linksys we were using before the cheapskate switched to Verizon was just fine, don't see why it wouldn't be if we deactivate the Wireless on the Verizon router and hook up the Linksys to it. but of course, she's as stubborn as she is cheap, so I'll just have to keep looking for a different way at the same time as I try to convince her to switch to Linksys Wireless. Ad how much do you want to bet that the moment I get one, I'll get the other, and I'll have to start all over with the Linksys.
 
Ok check the following things.


Does your secerity system (zone alarm, spy sweeper, nortan anti virus, ect.) allow you to make a connection. IF not then you have to mess with the setting to allow it.

Do you have the correct WEP key

You may have to input a DNS number as well as an IP number.

You may have seperate IP addresses, make sure you have the right one inputed.

Fill out all the information you are given in the router menu that you can on the Wi-fi menu. Look for anything you can manualy put in.

Dude, the only tw things that can be done on the DS mebnu are WEP and the toggling of/changing the IP Address. I have no idea how to manually put in the DNS. But I do in fact have the correct WEP Key. It gets all the way to the connection test, and I even get the three bars. Then, the bars go away, the box is empty, and it tells me it won't work. VERIZON IS EVIL! I know it's Verizon's fault cause my DS has never let me down before. Except for when my Linksys didn't use WEP, but we fixed that firly quickly, and it was a problem with an easy solution. Therefore, Verizon is evil.

Uh, it is wireless. All you do is plug in the USB Connector into your PC/Laptop, run the software, then access it on your DS wirelessly (it's good for 15-30 feet usually iirc, which is generally more than enough room). And the connector itself you can get anywhere from $29.99 - $39.99, and it works with the Wii if you have one as well. :thumb:

If you go to the menu you get the following choices

SSID ..........................................[EDIT]
WEP key.....................................[EDIT]
Auto-obtain IP address..........[No][Yes]
IP address...................................[EDIT]
Subnet Mask................................[EDIT]
Gateway........................................[EDIT]
Auto-obtain DNS........................[No][Yes]
Primary DNS...................................[EDIT]
secondary DNS...................................[EDIT]

Wow. I didn't even notice that it could croll down. Thanks dude. We'll see how it works in a few seconds.

Nope. While it is now accepting it, it's telling me it still won't work. It says to check the router settings, which I have done, and there's nothing wrong or incompatible. I'm about three seconds away from tossing out this router.

theres a list with different router brandsin ( i have a westell 327W), on the list it says you should change certain settings so it will connect successfully

Alright checked the Nintendo website, they were absolutely no help to me.l Anyway, it doesn't matter, we got it fixed, and I am now online! *party*. Anyway, this thread is now pointless, unless other people are having these problems, in which case, just call Verizon instead. They're actually pretty nice, if a bit slow with their service.
