Today I acquired Warcraft 3 for my computer, in the Battle Chest which included the game, and expansion pack, two guides, one for the original and one for the expansion, and, much to my surprise, a 14 day free trial for WoW. Now, quite obviously I was thrilled, but unfortunately my grandmother is paranoid, and alas I must use her computer. therefore, in order to convince her to allow me the necessary credit card information with which to activate this 14 day trial and find out if I really want WoW or not, I would like to ask for votes of confidence from everyone who reads this thread who plays WoW, so that I may show it to her and convince her that no one is going to steal my personal info. These votes of confidence will serve as a petition, with which to prove to her that a large amount of people agree with me that it is in fact safe. I thank you for your time.
 
WoW secure with credit card information? I have two college friends who play it, and never have any problem with that.

Stealing their time and souls? Just a little of that.

Complaining about changes to classes in-game? A lot of that.
 
Seriously, don't play WoW. Pick a better MMORPG. I'd personally suggest FFXI, or even GW, but even craptastic Korean ones like RO or Flyff are better. WoW is basically just full of people who never learn their party roles and where the grind is nothing more than going for one set of gear so you can go after another set ad nauseum. There's no real content to it.

In any case, just ask your grandmother this: "What's a huge multinational corporation like Blizzard going to do in not being secure about credit card information?" They certainly have no need of stealing money from you, and the negative publicity from letting it out that someone stole members' information is definitely not something they want. Thus, they're going to be as secure as they can be about it. It's just simple logic at work.

Though, that first paragraph of mine reminds me... "Levelling in RO made me want to kill myself. Levelling in FFXI makes me want to kill other people. I consider that an improvement."
 
You won't lose your credit card info but you will lose all of your free time, friends, social life...pretty much everything

MMORPGS may require lots of time to play, but hey, if that's the way someone wants to spend their free time, so what? Besides, as he's pointed out, he's only trying a 14-day free trial anyways, it's not like he's about to dedicate his life to it.

I'll be brutally honest here. I'd be more helpful (although my answer was probably the best of the bunch anyway) if he were interested in a game that doesn't suck.
 
Alright, to everyone who is concerned about me losing my life, it doesn't matter what it is I play, it's going to consume my non-school life for two weeks, and then will find steady balance with the rest of my life. These two weeks just happen to be free, and if I do in fact like it I'll put some money into it., but it will not control me. Trust me, I've done things that are a lot more time consuming. Besides, I'm probably just gonna end up playing Guild Wars instead. But for right now, I'm just gonna go for it.
 
There's one easy solution to the problems of gold farmers, addiction and playing for unhealthy lengths of time:

If they charged only for the time you actually spend playing, not per month etc and possibly locked you out after a certain number of hours a day.

Yet, if people want to waste their lives, who should stop them?
 
WoW loses you friends. I once had a friend who started to play it. He looks like he just got beat by an angry paper panda.
 
i had a friend (well sorta) who quit card games all together not just pokemon naruto yugioh wow the card game he quit everything and sold it all for 1000$ when i bet he speant 5000 on it if not more (he is so effing rich) to play wow its so sad
 
Yeah, how does he spend $5000? Unless he was buying Gold or something (which I thought was illegal?), it'd take almost 28 years paying the $15 a month subscription fee to devote that much money to the game.
 
If you engage in RMT, you are an idiot. Not only are you an idiot, you are some of the lowest forms of scum to plague MMORPGs. You're an idiot for buying fake money with real money, usually to buy items from the people selling you the fake money, thus giving what you bought back to them. You're also an idiot for breaking the terms of service and deserve to be banned accordingly.

While gilbuyers aren't the lowest form of "player" (this title belongs to hackers), they're worse for their games on the whole than botters and griefers combined. The damage done by RMT to a game's economy is dealt to every other player at once.

No, but in all seriousness, the only way I can see that you would spend $5000 dollars on a game that, and correct me if I'm wrong, costs $15 a month to play, would be if he had sold all that crap and started playing from day one, and then bought every little mini-expansion or accessory that does absolutely nothing to help you, plus bought some mods from the internet, and, as aforesaid, the second worst kind of gamers, the scum who buy things like gold, and even then, unless you bought a lot of gold, it'd still come up really short.
