Anyone know who were the Masters no shows?

I can understand that a Junior or Senior player might qualify for Worlds, get a free trip for 2 to Hawaii, and then have his parents still not want to go all the way to Hawaii, and what are they going to do about the rest of the kids and so forth, I can see that why kids might win a trip and not go, But dose anyone know wher the 2 players in Masters that had invites into the World Championshipsm yet did not show up to play.

Ther were 4 guaranteed spots for Masters Grinder players in worlds this year, and 6 masters players made the World Campionships via playing in the grinder, so 2 Masters players had invites yet did not show.

I was wondering if anyone knew who they were, where they are from, and why did they not show up?

1.Trips for masters weren´t free everywhere,

2.It´s still damn long trip from Europe. Not all would even take a free trip.

My understanding was all invites would be paid for. Could be that they had somthing already arranged at that time, or that they took the holiday but didn't want to play the tournament.

illnesses might have stopped them flying. had I actually got the trip this year- I wouldn't have been able to make it due to an ear infection. Is that irony? hmm.....

POP did held some invites in reserve, so not assigned to anybody.
We assumed this was 1 invite in reserve but it might have been 2?

They told after the first round of the grinder that there was in fact only 1 Master non-show.

I think the other was due to a person in Senior Registering for Masters.

Confirmation in this anyone?

Well, they just were not. All ranking invites were i quess, nationals not.

There are also visa issues. If can be very difficult for citizens of some countries to gain legal entry into the United States. This is particularly true of young males. We do what we can by sending an invitation letter, but that is not always enough.

Also, school could have already started in that country.
AND missing a weekend ESPECIALLY at a college/university could be SO painful and could cut into your study/hw/lecture time.

School>Pokemon, always. Some people may forget sometimes (as I may too, lol), BUT missing a tournament due to studying/homework is always the best route.
It's just not worth it, well for worlds it may be, lol, but even so.

there was a player from new zealand(david yan) that was registered in the masters but was a senior player, turns out that they had 65 players in seniors....hope this answers your question

there was a no show in masters in addition to that. Thatt's why 6 masters grinded in and not 5.

Elm: School>Pokemon only in graduate years. In other years, your grades don't matter anyway(Atleast not in Norway)

High School years, of course school is more important, ESPECIALLY w/ 4 AP and 1 Pre-AP course.
If I were to miss a day, it would take me a good chunk of my time to catch up and I would struggle for a little. BUT school should ALWAYS be greater than Pokemon. I could see missing a day or 2 for a prestigious tourney such as this one, BUT really any other tournament that's not Worlds or Nats I would prolly have to say isn't worth it.

Even if I got invited...

I had the flu really bad...

:F

But if people do not show up then their invites should be put in to the grinder. Yes.

im going to go with it being a visa issue. really, missing a week of school is no big deal even up until undergrad college. ask and most professors will let you make up an exam. the only way i could see someone not going to worlds for school would be because they'd miss multiple ap exams in high school or a final in college, not class.

sick? eh i'd go even if i were sick. hawaii would probably help me feel better!

Not with the flu. The whole island would get it over now...

And the flu is not pretty :nonono:
