that's why you don't see pokemon tcg, video game, etc. commercials during the pokemon anime or movie broadcasts. same with any other cartoon with tie-in merchandise: advertising the toys etc. turns the entire broadcast into a 'commercial'.

The FCC rule is condescending and idiotic. Kid sees ad, asks PARENT for said item. Parent can say "yes" or "no".

Another example of the govt becoming the parent and guardian of our kids. BTW, Tomy sponsors lots of shows in Japan and merchandise related to the sponsored show is very common. The kids over there seem just fine to me.
