'search your deck for up to 2 basic pokemon. and shuffle and your turn is over'

in the beginning game, we need to set up right? we cant just trans for the mentor on t1 like we used to.
so is it worth it dedicating 4 spots to a pokesearcher like tauros. and/or just play 4 holon mentor. maybe even play some fan clubs. or dualballs/great balls. what is the best way to set up?
discuss.

on the other hand, you can use a supporter getting pokemon to get out the mentor, although not use it that turn.

yeah. well chingling, i like. it can get our mentor/celio/bebe/draw supporters.

but tauros calling for family is better than chingling getting out a mentor for next turn. b/c you are one step ahead and can evolve those basics your next turn. and start attacking.

but chingling in the long run can get you any supporter you want. and tauros cant do that.

I guess it depends on the deck. Some decks might need a dedicated Pokemon to fill the bench like Tauros CG, some decks make better use of something like Chingling/Chimecho. Some decks don't even need any of the above.

Mentor is awful now.

It was only ever good b/c of Transceiver, using a Supporter to find basics is dodgy and slow, best of w/ CFF or Balls. If you need a big bench early go CFF, if not Balls and you can always use Celio/Balls together or Draw/Balls, that's why its better than Mentor.

Mentor is still a great card, that is played in almost every deck :thumb:
I would go with Chinglin

Can someone list what balls have the best chance to get a basic pokemon from best to worst?

My guess would be:

  1. Great Ball
  2. quick ball
  3. master ball
  4. dusk ball
  5. dual ball
  6. poke ball

i think Dual Ball would be tied with Master Ball and Dusk Ball...hm. anyways, remind me, has Ultra ball made an appearence? Since we got Poke, Great and Master but no Ultra..

When it comes down to it i think its a question of speed vs. stability. if you want a speedy deck then balls and CFF are the best way to go, and although many players want a speedy start a stronger bulid can also win you games once the "speedy player" has exausted all their resources. so sure CFF can get you 2 pkmn that will evolve next turn, but mentor lets you get 3 pokemon that can be candied which is where girafarig would come in handy, not only does it let you draw up candy, plus power, windstorm, and crystals but it also lets you pull balls if you need a quick fix.

um. i'd like to say that luvdisc is the best CFF in this format if they ball or Fan club you get one more and if they drop early stadiums you can spread on them or if you drop an early can counter there spreading.

Tauros setup well in decks not relying in baby pokes... Vire, Motar and etcs needs Mentor to bring the baby and the basic.

Tauros + Chinglin? Tauros put Chinglin + Important Basic, Chinglin bring Celios/PETM to evolve the Important Basic next turn...

Cheers!
