Custom Play Fields? A fun expansive way to play?

The Pokemon TFG looks awesome. I have my starter sets on the way. One thing I noticed from the Demo's though is that it looks like players could have some unofficial fun by making custom playmats if they want. They could be large, a long path, expansive, or even 3 Dimentional if a player constructs for the fun of it? Has anyone (who has gotten their hands on the game) tried to build a custom play field and what is it like?

I wouldn't be surprised if they actually introduce new playfields in future expansions.
That's the great thing about this being a 3-dimensional game, there's opportunities for so many more new mechanics in the future.

I was thinking the same thing and might make some gyms with my kids and incorporate some extras like all fire-types have a weakness because this area is the water gym. If anyone makes something, please post pics!

Sounds like a fun thing to make in Adobe Illustrator.
I'm on it.

If the game goes OP, I'd stick to the tournament-legal mats for better practice. Making your own would be great fun for casual play.

Yes that would be an obvious fact there. Custom playmats would have to be for custom play just like in the TCG like 2-on-2 playstyle. Nevertheless I could just imagine what I could make my pool table look like.

First time I've heard of the idea for a 3-D field, but I know for a fact that people have created some custom fields. Two simple variations seem to be the most popular from amongst those. Firstly, one that's basically identical to the existing 6 player mat, but with the entry points moved to the short edges. Secondly, a "web" design similar in shape to a Chinese Checkers board (which also allows for 3+ players).

I'd love to see someone actually do one of those up in a printable format.

Any ideas on keeping the mats nice? I can already see some wear on ours from folding and unfolding. I think that I am going to take one somewhere to be laminated. It won't be as easy to take along but it should last longer. Or I thought of mounting it on a posterboard but we would lost the ability to flip it over.

I'm currently making one on paper. It'd be fun to make lots of these and pack them with your figures, to have many ways to play.

I'd love to print off some good fanmade fields, I'll make some my own and post them later for anyone to print and use!

Why stop at 3D? Let's play our uber-tactical pokémon 'chess' on a tesseract. We can't have no luck based fun here.

I have made my own and I am tring it out and if it looks good I will post it here....
IT brings in these shortcut spaces that have one draw back....
Whne you land on them you can't move that pokemon for one turn.....

Also known as having WAIT. Also, your field was WAY too small. Make a bigger one!

I am....
That was just to test it out...
I told you that!
Anyway, any shortcut like space has a "W" on it which stands for wait so that Pokemon has wait on it for one turn.
