Worlds Invites for Europe

I know there's already a thread about this in the News section, but I figured it'd be good to talk about it with other International players. POP posted the list of which countries get how many invites. Check it out:

I am absolutely thrilled to see the number of rating invites for Europe go from 4/6 to 20. It's so much better to know that a lot of people will now have a decent shot at an invite. I guess POP finally realised there are many many European players willing to pay their own flight. And Florida should be cheaper than Hawaii!

I was just wondering at the invite ratio for Nationals. It strikes me as a bit odd that we in the Netherlands get 4 per age group, while the UK and Finland for example get only 3. Why, do we have better/more players? Surely the answer is no to both those questions... So why do we get 4?

So here's a list of all the European countries with invites:

Austria 2 2 2
Belgium/Luxembourg 2 2 2
Czech Republic 2 2 2
Denmark 2 2 2
Finland 3 3 3
France 4 4 4
Germany 4 4 4
Italy 4 4 4
Malta 2 2 2
Netherlands 4 4 4
Norway 4 4 4
Portugal 2 2 2
Slovenia 2 2 2
Spain 2 2 2
Sweden 2 2 2
Switzerland 2 2 2
United Kingdom 3 3 3

Out of these, only Malta, Austria, and Slovenia will NOT have a paid trip, only the invites.

Discuss?

UK OP was a bit messed up last year - maybe that has something to do with the numbers?

The crunch question for me is have the LDs got money in their OP budgets to pay travel awards? If the LDs answer is 'no' then this year will see a return to predominately USA attendance at Worlds.

Well, it has to do with player numbers.

Norway had a 219 person nats, we get 4 invites, Sweden had a 79 people nats, they get 2.

NoPoke: People pay to go to worlds even if they have just an invite ;)

BJ, true enough my own family being an example.

However the takeup of invites in juniors is less than seniors which is in turn less than masters. The parents of the Juniors and Seniors have to want to go to Pokemon Worlds for those invites to be used. Some do, but many more don't.

As to the quantity of invites the UK attendance (approx 150) was similar to Germany and twice the size of the French Nationals. I don't doubt that attendance is a factor but I suspect that the quality of delivered OP is a factor too, possibly the biggest factor.

Spain gets invites too. Go Espania!

Well, I for one was very disappointed in the attendance at the Dutch Nationals. We had a LOT less people than Norway, yet we get 4 invites too. I don't know the numbers by heart though, I suspect they're somewhere down a few pages on this board?

Seems good for me. And I think it's not the players or the winners who matter but the sales. Netherland just sells more cards than countries which got fewer invites. The only thing I find funny is that Malta and Denmark has an equal amount of invites... But anyways I think those numbers are cool enough.

No Irish invites?
We could probally get more a nationals then malta etc..... + We happen to be one of the countrys that has a extremally high card game sales[for pokemon] but only one place to play and seeing as OP here was only just established I guess we got grouped in with the uk but even then The REP. Of Ireland is not part of the UK. So........... Ah well looks like I might have to go to my local Gaming store this weekend just to get this sorted out along with our battle roads and Preleasse.
UK has only 9 Invites? That just sucks......

I seem to remember seeing a lot of Irish Tourneys getting cancelled over the last couple of years? Also we thought you like us were under the TPfG umbrella in Ireland?

Certainly TPfG seemed to label the UK Nationals as UK and Ireland ?? But maybe I am misrembering??

NoPoke will know for sure ...

They just want to get me back into the game, that's why ;)

Liesik must've been missing the Swablu caps!

I would have been happy to see Denmark get more than 2 invites. I feel a bit disapointed to see Denmark get as few invites as fx Malta, but if it is about sales, then theres nothing to say, but cool that Europe get that many invites total !
(sorry for mis-spellings)

Ill complain......
Tournaments has Ireland ever had tournaments heck now I am not even sure if we will get battle roads or the MT prelesse lol
So yet again I have to pay for flights etc. to birmingham for another game lol I am there in january for yugioh then pokemon nats some time around may. lol

Has anyone ask the LD about sponsoring a travel award for the invites only yet and had you any sucess?

I'm going out of topic with this comment and I know I've read about it somewhere in the boards but I forgot. Are you guys allowed to participate on a Nats held on a country other than yours? I know the Canadian, Mexican and North American nats are exclusive for legal residents only; does the same rule apply for the rest of the world? Just wondering, thanks! l8r!

Matias,

I heard from someone that you moved to NZ sometimes last year?

If that the case, you can still enter the NZ nationals as long as you have the residence info for NZ - there was a NZ nationals earlier this year, on 19th of may. If you want to be fully up to date on NZ premier level tourneys, let me know and I will hook you up with some good information.

Hope it helps, Matias.

thanks for the 411 jason! I really apreciate your help but at the moment i decided to stop playing modifed tournaments because of some personal issues. I am sure ill get back into the game some day! Thanks again and I wont forget the hook up offer xD!
So basically you need to be a resident to play on a nats tournament and that rule applies on every country right? I wasnt asking about this because of my personal situation, I just wanted to know because international distances in some parts of Europe arent long... i guess we all can figure out the rest...
See ya!
