Hey guys. My name is Gabe. I draw a webcomic called Penny Arcade and I just recently got into the Pokemon CCG. We've done some comics about it even. My first real deck was just a version of the Infernacatty idea. I messed with it a bit but I got the basic idea of Infernape and Delecatty from these boards. It worked really well but I wanted to try and make something myself.

I got a Honchkrow card in a booster pack and thought his Poke-body sounded really cool. I wondered if I could build a deck around him. I added Dugtrio to protect Honchkrow while he sits on the bench and the Murkrows deal damage. I put in Tyranitar because he's dark and fighting so that seemed like a perfect fit.

I know there are no new ideas and I'm sure you guys have made a million versions of this deck. A lot of the supporters are there just because those are the ones I have. I'm still curious what you guys would do to this. It's worked really well for me so far but I only play my friends here in the office right now.

Also a question. From what I understand a DR energy on Honchkrow does not effect the damage dealt by Murkrows when they use his attack. But if I place a single special dark on a Murkrow and then have it use the Honckrow attack does it get the Special energy bonus and do 60?

Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it.

4 - Murkrow
3-Honchkrow

3-Diglett
3-Dugtrio

3-Larvitar
2-Pupitar
3-Tyranitar

2-Scott
3-Rare Candy
3-Celio's Network
3-Windstorm
2-Warp point
1-Sidney's Stadium
2-Bebe's Search
2-Mr. Stone's Project

3-Dark
4-Special Dark
10-fighting
4-Double rainbow

Looks good in concept....still ur trainers are kinda sloppy....for example, why run 2 scotts with just 1 stadium? Try to maximize Scott, what about adding i more Sidney? Also u dont run EX pokemon so Bebe is not needed, just run 4 Celio´s. I notice u dont have ANY draw cards....so maybe drop Mr Stones and add a couple TV Repoters/Stevens/Bills...regarding energies I Dont think u would like to be attacking wih Dugtrio, so maybe drop the fighting count or at least equal it to the dark energy count....here are my suggestions:
-1-1 Dugtrio Line
+3 Sableye CG (nice starter and staller for Honchcrow
-1 Scott
-2 Bebes
-2 Mr Stone
+1 Sidney Stadium
+ 3 Bills/Stevens/TV (your choice)

You energy count is way too big!!! ettle with about 17 because of Tyranitars...
4 DRE
4 Special Dark
6 fighting
3 Dark

Sorry if coun id wrong, but u get it.
Hope I helped.

Welcome to the boards!

Yes, a special Dark on the attacking Murkrow would add 10 damage to the attack.
Basic Dark energy is hard to come by.
You can pick up 5 or 6 copies of the card in the Torterra theme deck from the D&P set.

Wait for Secret Wonders to come out early next month, Gabe. There's a Weavile in that set that would fit a lot better w/this deck than Dugtrio. Also, if you're using a hand disruptor like Honchkrow, you absolutely, positively have to put 4 Team Galactic's Wager (and maybe some of the upcoming Team Galactic's Mars card) in your deck.

All in all, I think it's a very interesting idea.

yeah i really like honchy too and in next set therell be a honchkrow lv x and croation king i dont think weavile such a great idea because u dont nee all of the energy cause all u need is one powered up honchkrow and thatll be easy if ur starter is sabelye cg also ambipomb works well with thios card

pyrot, the Weavile's not so much for the Honchkrow as it is for the T-tar - it needs the NRG accel. Also, Weavile's second attack is useful in a disruptive deck such as this.

I know this will make me look stupid but why do I want Team Galactic's Wager? That is the Rock Paper Scissors card correct?

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.

Because with it u make ur opponent shuffle his/her hand in the deck and hopefully stop whats he/she was trying to do....and also with some luck leave him/her with 3 cards and the discard them with Honch

heres my list for next set

Hi there. I've been a fan of your comics for a long time. I was actually going to try to e-mail you and talk to you about the card game. IM me or e-mail if you're interested.

As for the deck:

4 - Murkrow
3-Honchkrow

--Typically you want to run your main stage 1 pokemon line as a 4/4, but I like the 3 Honchkrow since it shouldn't be attacking as much.

3-Diglett
3-Dugtrio

--The format is almost overwhelmingly blissey right now. There really aren't many pokemon that damage the bench, and those that do typically run Cessation Crystal which nullifies Dugtrio's body. The righting type may appear good vs blissey, but they run Holon FF and Fire energy to remove weakness. I'd drop this line.

3-Larvitar
2-Pupitar
3-Tyranitar

2-Scott--It's a decent supporter, but it's primary usage is in decks with offensive gyms. You get the gym that turn instantly, guaranteed and use it. An example would be Lake Boundary. You run 1 gym and it isn't offensive. I suggest using a different draw engine.
3-Rare Candy
3-Celio's Network
3-Windstorm
2-Warp point
1-Sidney's Stadium
2-Bebe's Search (there is no reason to play 3 celio's and 2 bebe's when you can use 4 celio's and 1 bebe's since bebe's requires a shuffle-in and celio's does not. I think 4 celio's is plenty enough, really.)
2-Mr. Stone's Project (not needed)

3-Dark
4-Special Dark
10-fighting
4-Double rainbow

--New players typically play an overabundance of energy. There are two things you should remember with this deck: 1. Murkrows typically won't be attacking with energy. 2. Realistically you will power up 5 attackers a game. On average a pokemon needs ~3 energy to attack. That means you should run around 3x5=15 energy. With this deck you don't need to attach energy to Murkrow, further reducing your energy need. On top of that you use DRE, supplying 2 energy. I'd say your energy line should look more like this:

4 DRE
4 Sp.Dark
2 Scramble
4/5 Fighting

You need more basic getting cards. Holon Mentor would be nice to get a murder of 'krows all at once. You also need more draw. I'm sure you know how good drawing cards is- pokemon's no different. More cards, more consistency, more options. You also need a safeguard against losing Wager and having a low hand with few outs.

More draw, more pokemon search, less energy, and fewer pokemon should streamline your deck and increase its speed and consistency of setup.

Also, to answer your Team Galactic's Wager question... It's the only disruptive card in the format. Its going to be a REAL pain when the opponent has 1 prize left and you have 2 fully powered and full-hp TTars with massive HP. You wager and cut their hand to 3 and kill their comeback capability.

Hello, ive been a fan of your web comics as well.

Dont you guys live in the seattle area? You should attend league, or the upcoming prereleases to get some of the new cards.

Personally. I think the best way to play Honchkrow is with Emploeon lvl X and Team Galatics Wager.

You use Murkrow early game to setup and build your emploeons then late game drop a wager, emploeon lxl x hand down to 1 then honchkrow them to 0

Its hard to come back when you have no hand and your opponent is able to snipe whoever you have on the bench for 80. Something to just consider.

good luck with the deck.

Hey Gabe, nice to see a famous person join our game, and hope you enjoy playing and getting deeper into the competitive aspect of this game, as it really is a great game once you get competing in the big events.

Anyways, the trainer line here is what needs work. You are running 0 draw right now so that needs to change. Stone's is a very bad card and can be replaced by some straight draw, good choices being Steven's Advice, TV Reporter and Prof. Oak's Visit from the new set that's coming out. Since you don't play any EXs, Bebe's should be replaced by a 4th celios and another draw.

I also think that Scott and the one Sidney's won't make enough of an impact, and should be dropped for more draw to help the consistency out a bit, as this deck might suffer consistency issues playing with a stage 1 and a stage 2.
